Her Final Confession – Lisa Regan
Detective Josie Quinn is just settling in to a nice evening off with her boyfriend, Lt. Noah Fraley, when both of their phones ring simultaneously. It’s the Chief, asking them to investigate a murder – the covering detective, Gretchen, cannot be reached and the murder has taken place at her home. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discover the body of a young male, with no apparent relation to Gretchen, and no reason to be in the Denton area, let alone in Gretchen’s driveway. Meanwhile, their very capable detective, Gretchen Palmer, remains missing, the GPS tracker on her car, disabled.
As Josie and Noah investigate the murder and Gretchen’s disappearance simultaneously, few clues come to light. Cell phone records give them no real clues as to why a young college aged male from Idaho suddenly traveled to Pennsylvania and wound up dead in Gretchen’s driveway. As they continue to work the case late one evening, they are started by a call from the officer downstairs – Gretchen is in the building and is confessing to the murder. As they attempt to speak with her, she again states that she is responsible, and demands to be arrested – striking Josie in the face in apparent anger.
But Josie knows enough about Gretchen to know that something is wrong. As Gretchen is held by the state police, Josie gets to work, trying to prove her innocence, despite her insistence that she is guilty. A call to an old partner of Gretchen’s sheds some light on her early past and provides Josie and Noah just enough information to head the investigation in the right direction. But re-visiting the past can sometimes be very dangerous - as Josie and Noah attempt to unravel the mystery, they find themselves in the crosshairs of a very old, but just as deadly nemesis…
I LOVED this book!! I love this series!!! This book takes off running, will keep you up well into the night, and, with gradual peeks and insights into Gretchen’s traumatic past, will keep you guessing until the very end! A fabulous read! I cannot wait for more from Lisa Regan!
What drives someone to confess to a crime she didn’t commit? Especially since she’s part of a police force & should know better. Josie believes in her team member & knows there is no way she committed murder. She just can’t figure why Gretchen confessed.
I really enjoyed this story & the characters. Josie believes in her friends & can’t be swayed. Her character is tender & emotional with Noah & others close to her but hard as nails at work. She’s better at her job than her superiors & refuses to settle for quick answers. She’s just not terrific at the political aspect of the job. The romance between Noah & Josie adds a little conflict but also a lightness that is needed.
Another great book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I just finished "Her Mother's Grave" and I loved it so much I wanted to dive right into the next one. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I highly recommend reading the previous books first (especially #3). This book did not disappoint. It was a little slow in the beginning (but it could have been because I was still on a high from book #3) but it picked up in the middle and the ending is one that I would never have guessed. Great writing, amazing story with likable characters, and full of suspense and drama right up to the end. What more can you ask for in a thriller?
I love this series and definitely recommend it. I can't wait to read the next one.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of Lisa Regan's "Her Final Confession" in exchange of an honest review.
This is book 4 in the Josie Quinn series and I honestly couldn’t pick a favourite. Even my dad who doesn’t read much is completely hooked on this series and has been begging to get his hands on this latest one. They do work as stand alones but you get so much more out of the story if you read them in order.
I absolutely adore Josie as well as the other characters. They are all so well written. I also love that we get to see Josie outside of work and see how her personal life is progressing. It just adds that little bit extra and really makes me connect with the characters.
With regards to the plot, I was a bit confused when I started the book as it switches between the past and present. At first, the past scenes don’t really make sense with regards to what is happening in the present day. However, it is soon all explained and the penny finally dropped.
As you read on, there seems to be 3 unrelated plots going on at the same time but by the end, everything is bought together and tied up in a way I never expected. Lisa Regan really knows how to keep you guessing. Her Final Confession is fast-paced, gripping and everything I look for in a book.
If you are looking for a new crime series I highly recommend you get started on the Josie Quinn series asap.
Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
Excellent book! Loved the characters and it was a great storyline. I would highly recommend this book.
A young man is found dead in the yard of Gretchen, a member of Josie's team. Gretchen is missing and Josie needs to figure out if Gretchen ran or if something more sinister happened. When Gretchen reappears to turn herself in and confess to the murder, Josie can't bring herself to believe that Gretchen is guilty. But she's running out of time. Josie needs to find answers before Gretchen is convicted of murder.
This is another great book in the Josie Quinn series. I highly recommend both this series and the author.
I received this book through Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com, to Bookouture, and to Lisa Regan for this opportunity.
3.5
Lots going on here! Three different stories, different timeframes and lots of murders.
I liked Josie and her coworkers. They were interesting characters and their relationships and dialogue felt real. I have no backstory for them as this was the first book in the series that I have read but it works as a stand-alone and you do get a true feel for their personalities and a bit what they have gone through.
There were many surprises and red herrings. I was a bit lost as to how the stories connected. It was actually quite clever, didn’t see it coming. The conclusion was a bit crazy but pretty satisfying overall. I would continue on with this series.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.
This was my first book by the author and I absolutely loved it! It was suggested to me by @anintrovertreads and I was skeptical to read it since I hadn't read the previous books in the series. There were a few question marks as the story went on but it was also exceptionally well written that a new reader could still follow the story.
I have never been a fan of police procedural but after reading Her Final Confession, I am! I loved the fast pace of this book! I didn't want to put it down! It was suspenseful, riveting and a true page turner! I will definitely be checking the previous books in the series as well as putting the next one on my TBR!
You can never go wrong with a Josie Quinn/ Lisa Regan mystery! I'm in love with Josie as a detective and Lisa as an author. They make a great team!
Just like all the other Josie Quinn mysteries, this one was kept me on edge until the very end. The mystery was so tightly woven, so utterly unpredictable. It swept me off into it completely.
My favourite fact, of course, is how Josie's own life story is always given importance in the main storyline. I mean, I've read so many books where all the detective does is solve the case. It's nice to read a book where they do more than that.
All in all, I'd definitely buy a lot of my friends a copy of this book if I could afford it, but since I can't, I urge you to go get it yourself. I promise you, you won't be disappointed.
This is the fourth book in the Detective Josie Quinn series and is as good as it’s predecessors.
The story begins when a young man is found dead outside officer Gretchen’s house with a photo pinned to his shirt. Josie can’t believe that her friend and fellow officer has done this but then Gretchen hands herself in and confesses to the murder.
With Gretchen refusing to help Josie fights to find the truth.
I love this character and will definitely be looking forward to book five.
You could this as a stand-alone but it will add depth to the back stories of the characters if you read them in order.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

I received a free e-copy of Her Final Confession (Detective Josie Quinn #4) by Lisa Regan from NetGalley for my honest review.
Lisa Regan has become one of my all time favorite authors. She is an amazing author with a gift of writing. Once you read one of her books you will be hooked.
Her Final Confession, is an amazing non-stop thrill of a read. A book with amazing characters, a complex story line and, and a heart racing mystery that will not disappoint. I hope this series never ends.
This was another typical thriller from Lisa Regan that grabbed your attention from the beginning leaving you hungry to understand what was going on in the mind of the killer. Great read.
This is the fourth book in the Josie Quinn series which keeps on improving. I love the character development and the plot in this one. This is a very intense read which will keep you addicted until the last page. I would recommend this series to crime fiction lovers. My thanks to Net Galley for my copy. reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
EXCERPT: A shudder ran the length of her body. Again, she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. Then she opened them and continued. "He said, 'Hello sweetheart. I've missed you.' You don't know how many times I 've heard that voice in my head, in my nightmares. It never went away. As long as he was out there, I was afraid he'd come back. He always a said he would. . ."
ABOUT THIS BOOK: Watching her friend dragged away in handcuffs, Josie couldn't believe for one second that Gretchen had killed that poor boy. Confession or not, someone else was involved. She would find out who…
When the body of a young student is found on the driveway of a local Denton home, a photograph pinned to his collar, Detective Josie Quinn is first on the scene. The house belongs to Gretchen Palmer, a dedicated member of Josie’s team, missing for the last twenty-four hours.
Working around the clock, Josie is stopped in her tracks when Gretchen hands herself in to the police. She knows that there’s no way Gretchen could ever be a killer, so why would she confess to a murder she didn’t commit?
Digging deep into Gretchen’s secretive life, Josie uncovers a link between the boy, the photograph and a devastating case in Gretchen’s past. But just when Josie thinks she has it all figured out, the bodies of a young couple surface on the other side of town. Can Josie get to the truth in time to save her friend from a life in prison or certain death?
MY THOUGHTS: Nail-biting.
Breath-taking.
Heart-pounding.
Damn! This was good!
This is a series that was really good to begin with, and one that just keeps getting better. Her Final Confession is everything I look for in a thriller. I read it in two sittings - only because I had to go to work in the middle - or I would have read it in one.
I love the way the relationships have developed between Josie, Gretchen and Noah. None of the characters are stereotyped, and some of the excesses of the earlier books have been whittled away to produce smoother, more believable storylines. Although there is a little romance, it complements rather than overpowering the main thread. Kudos to Lisa Regan for striking the perfect balance.
Don't be put off by this being book 4 of a series, it is easily read as a stand-alone. But if you are looking for a great series as a gift for someone, this comes very highly recommended.

What happens when you are a police officer investigating a murder, and the murderer is another cop?
Holy Hannah, this book is what happens.
Detective Josie Quinn is back and in the middle of this convoluted, twisting nightmare. Josie believes that her colleague is innocent, and she will stop at nothing to prove it - including putting herself directly in harms way.
I was sucked right into this story, because I LOVE a good police procedural and the idea that the main suspect is a police officer is even better. Lisa Regan knows how to write incredibly tense, fast paced, twisting, suspenseful stories that are all the better because you actually care about the characters the story is happening to. I picked this one up with the intention of reading a couple of chapters, and devoured half the book before I even knew what had happened.
While this is the fourth book in a series, it (along with all the others) can be read as standalone. This was my personal first foray into Josie Quinn’s world, and I am so hooked on the characters, I cannot WAIT to go back and read the first three books so I can understand the relationships even better. That being said, Lisa does an amazing job of sharing JUST ENOUGH details of the characters backstories that you can really get invested in them, without feeling like you are getting a 4 book recap of the characters past.
I absolutely LOVE how the investigation into Gretchen was the key for getting a glimpse into Josie’s own relationships, including her new relationship with Noah. A key ingredient in stories for me as a reader, is characters that I can connect with, or that feel very real, and Josie is exactly that kind of character. I could easily imagine her life and she felt like someone I could know - one of those girlfriends you catch up with over a drink and hear about their crazy job and their new boyfriend. Not to mention, she is a female lead that takes no crap, and THAT is my favorite kind of lead female!
I also loved Gretchen in this story - she was so intriguing to me, and I could probably read an entire series on her alone.
The work done to tie together all the various pieces of the story is exceptional, every angle seems to be standalone and I had no idea how it was going to come together until it smacked me right between the eyes. I love a plot where the outcomes aren’t obvious until your smack dab in the middle of them. Which is all I will say on that, because quite frankly, readers should get to enjoy this ride for themselves, without fear of spoilers to dampen the journey.
Overall, this book was excellent, and I am incredibly excited to have found a brand new series that I can jump into for the new year!

This is the fourth book in the series and I was looking forward to being reunited with Detective Josie Quinn and her team. Josie is called out to discover the body of a young man shot dead, the problem being that he was found on the driveway of Detective Gretchen Palmer, a member of her team. Gretchen is missing and most members of the team think she has committed the murder but not Josie. She is determined to prove Gretchen is innocent, which is made much more difficult when Gretchen turns up and pleads guilty. But Josie knows that she is lying and starts investigating Gretchen’s past and all the secrets she has been keeping. This is an intense thriller which I couldn’t put down. This series just gets better and better. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I’m such a huge fan of this series which I think keeps getting better and better. I love the way the author cleverly manages to breathe new life into this series with new stories and new characters being introduced in each book.
Josie has to be one of my favourite detectives and I love the confident attitude she takes when solving her cases. She doesn’t suffer fools gladly which I found very impressive. Her relationship with Noah divided me a little bit. On one hand I was very pleased she had found someone who she obviously liked but in the other I felt it took away from the more interesting case she was working on.
The story is again very gripping and the plot develops quite fast making it very hard to put down. It seemed a bit more frantic this time as it was personal to Josie and she was determined to help her friend. There were lots of surprising plot twists to keep me on my toes and the suspense towards the end had me absolutely glued to the book. Another fantastic ending from this talented author!
This is Lisa Regan’s fourth book and the fourth book in the fabulous Josie Quinn series. Whilst this could be read as a stand-alone it might be beneficial to start at the beginning as I feel you would get more of an understanding of the characters.
Huge thanks to Noelle from Bookouture for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book via Netgalley. If you’re looking for a fantastic new crime series then I urge you to try this one!
BEST SERIES of the year!!!
This is the fourth book in the Josie Quinn Series, all four of the books were published this year, 2018... this is an exceptional police procedural series, filled with wonderful characters and compelling plots... they can all be read as standalones but why would you want to? They are all brilliant and each is better than the last... I think this is a series best devoured from The beginning! I just took a look at my review for the first book and I mention that I felt there was lots of room for Josie to grow as a character, and boy has she! Lisa Regan, I am expecting another four books in this marvelous series in 2019! I don’t ask for much, right?
I knew we were going to get Gretchen‘s backstory in this book.... I knew it would be dark and disturbing but WOWZA! The body of a young man is discovered in Gretchen‘s driveway with a picture of a young boy pinned to him... Josie was adamant that Gretchen had nothing to do with the death of this young man, even after Gretchen confesses.... but who is this young man and what was he doing at Gretchens house? Is a recently murdered couple connected to this in any way? Once again I put on my detective hat and tried to figure out this case along with Josie and Noah, I had plenty of theories, none of them right!
The thing I love most about this series is the amazing and well developed characters... along with the relationships they have with one another... Josie has some scars, but she is still extremely relatable... I think knowing her backstory makes it’s so easy to understand and sympathize with her.... Noah, wow he has come along way since that first book and I am so hoping that Josie and he end up in a strong stable loving relationship! Together! Gretchen has always been a bit of a mystery and I just knew she had some deep secrets, but I did not expect them to be this deep and dark.... there were times I was thinking how could one person possibly have gone through all of this? Fortunately I was wrong with some of my assumptions and grateful to find that out! SO what does a motorcycle gang, a serial killer, and a grad student have in common? Well you’re going to need to read this fabulous book to find that out, but as I said start with book one!
Absolutely recommend to anyone who is a fan of a wonderful crime thriller with plenty of twists and turns and well-developed characters...
***Many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book***
I’m not going to even attempt to beat around the bush here – what an absolutely twisted, cutthroat and severely intense novel! I LOVED it!!! I am thankful that my doctors appointment was before finishing this book, because I certainly wouldn’t have been able to explain the high blood pressure – they probably wouldn’t have believed me either!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous novels in the ‘Josie Quinn’ series, but I have to say that ‘Her Final Confession’ is soaring above the rest!
There are unexplained deaths, multiple questions awaiting answers, guilty consciences, gut instincts waiting to be believed, as well as truck loads of lies and truths fighting to become the ‘one and only’. Gretchen is at the heart of Lisa Regan’s latest storyline, and not in a good way. If you’ve read the previous books you’ll know just how black and white Gretchen’s character is. However, her personality and traits certainly get tested in this book! Facts obviously play a large part in the way the story is processed, yet the author leaves room for the readers to interpret their own version of events. Who do you believe? Who do you want to believe?
Yes, ‘Her Final Confession’ is part of a series, but I believe that each book can be read as a stand-alone. That said, because I loved the books, I wholeheartedly recommend that you read the books in order so that you can enjoy the series from the very beginning.
I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again – what a bloody brilliant book this is. My heart was in my mouth, my jaw was mopping the floor, and my legs were like jelly as though I had just stepped off a rollercoaster ride!
It’s gripping. It’s dark. It’s twisted. It’s addictive. It’s everything I could have wanted one book to contain. Lisa Regan has outdone herself – I cannot recommend ‘Her Final Confession’ enough!
When Josie and her partner Noah are called to a crime scene, the last thing they expect is that the house belongs to fellow Denton PD detective Gretchen Palmer with the body of a young boy in the driveway and Gretchen nowhere to be found. With her partner and her boss both thinking that Gretchen is guilty Josie has her work cut out for her trying to prove otherwise. She doesn’t believe her friend and colleague is capable of such a crime and thinks there is way more to it than appears on the surface. When Gretchen finally appears and confesses to the murder, she has to go against everyone to find out the truth.
There is a real sense of loyalty between the team throughout the book which is why despite how everything is stacking up against Gretchen I found that, like Josie, I was determined to see that she was not one behind the murder. Josie has a sense of doing the right thing even if it means going against her boss. The budding romance between Josie and Noah just adds to the feel of the book as you can see that they know each other very well and agree that work comes first and foremost, never resenting when they get called to deal with problems.
The story is dotted with events in the past and you have to work out what they have to do with the present day and how they link to Gretchen and why she is so determined to confess to the murder. This is quite a fast paced book filled with interesting characters that you can’t help but like. You get insights into their backstories, and a glimpse of why they act the way they do, but not so much that they become a distraction to the story being told.
This is the fourth book in the Detective Josie Quinn series but to be honest you don’t need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this fast paced book as it works perfectly well as a stand-alone. Yes there are references to other cases/stories but for me these just raised my interest in the books and a determination to go back and discover what I had missed. For lovers of police procedurals this is a series you should definitely check out.
