I really like Lisa Regan's writing; her characters are complex and their lives are messy; their relationships are complicated and messy; her story lines are knotty and messy. This appeals to me because real-life is complicated and messy, isn't it? It's not straight-forward or easy - at least not for my family and friends! So I rejoice in the "trueness" of Regan's style, one which easily pulls readers in to escape their own messy lives for awhile.
The sixth in the Detective Josie Quinn series, Her Final Confession, is another good addition to this strong set. Josie, back to being a Detective after her temporary stint as police chief, has found some answers to the questions she (and we!) had about her life. She is still partnered (and involved with) Lt. Noah Farley, and is building a relationship with her recently discovered biological family, Shannon and Christian Payne, twin sister Trinity, and teen-aged brother Patrick. With her new family giving her the love and support she never had growing up, she is trying hard to get her drinking under control, and is determined to have a real chance at a good, "normal" life.
Denton, PA may not be a big city, but there's enough crime to keep Josie and her team busy. This time, her skills are needed to solve the murder of a young couple, and the death of a young man found shot in the back and left in the driveway of fellow detective Gretchen Palmer. When Gretchen goes missing, and the tracking device in her department issued car is deactivated, it is first thought she was taken by the perpetrator. But when bullets from her service revolver are identified as the bullets which killed the young man the police chief and Noah begin to look at Gretchen as the killer. Everyone is shocked when Gretchen appears in the office, dirtied, bloody, demanding to be arrested for the death of the young man, confessing she is responsible for his death.
Josie doesn't accept this and vows to prove her co-worker innocent. Her investigation takes her to places and information she never expected, once again making us question how well we really know the people in our lives and reminding us that secrets attempted to be hidden have a way of coming out.
This is a wonderful and fast-paced read which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven't discovered this series yet, it's worth your time. If you have, sit back and let Ms. Regan weave her spell over you again. Either way, it's time well spent.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Josie & Co are back doing what they do. Intriguing plot close to home when a body turns up on the drive of the house belonging to one of the police officers. Lots of twist and turns and the subplot continues to develop too
This is book # 4 in the Josie Quinn series. When you read most books by authors sometimes by the time you get to a fourth book in a series or even a 3rd most of the time the books start to lose it's momentum. I can honestly say this series every book is better than the last. This book is all about Gretchen you learn about her past and how quickly the past is catching up to the present. Gretchen turns herself in for murder ...did she or didn't she ?? You will have to read and find out. I highly recommend reading all the books in the series and put this series on your list for any future books. I would give more stars if I could this book, This book had the perfect amount of mystery and suspense.
Can her colleague really be a killer ? this is a question that Detective Josie Quinn must answer and unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a young boy at Gretchen's home. Delving into Gretchen's background proves to be an eye opening experience and one that will unravel with serious consequence's
I found this novel one that grips straight away and cannot be put down
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Final Confession’, fourth in the Detective Josie Quinn series written by Lisa Regan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
When Detective Josie Quinn and Lieutenant Noah Fraley are called to a homicide, Josie recognises the address to be that of their colleague Detective Gretchen Palmer. They find the body of college student James Omar lying on the driveway with a photograph pinned to his back but there’s no sign of Gretchen. When Gretchen confesses to the killing Josie doesn’t believe her and she and Noah work together to discover the truth about Gretchen’s past in an attempt to discover the truth before it’s too late to save her from prison.
‘Her Final Confession’ is a gripping and well-written police thriller with an intricately woven plot and credible characters. It’s fast-paced and chilling with twists and turns and a conclusion that made me gasp. I like Josie who’s strong-willed, feisty yet has compassion, and Noah who deservedly wins Josie’s affection. This is the first novel I’ve read by Lisa Regan and although I might have benefited by reading the previous books in the series it’s perfectly fine to read alone, and my limited knowledge of the characters’ backgrounds hasn’t detracted from my enjoyment. Now I’ve read the fourth in the series I’m going to have to go back and read the previous three.
Absorbing and complicated, this crime thriller featuring Detective Josie Quinn and Lieutenant Noah Fraley will have your head spinning. Great action and intricate details make this police procedural one that you won't want to miss. The series just keeps getting better with every new book!
Set in the fictional town of Denton, Pennsylvania, Quinn is no longer acting Chief of Police but has been replaced by Bob Chitwood. He interrupts a party date evening between Josie and Noah to attend a crime scene at the home of one of their fellow detectives, Gretchen Palmer. A young man lies dead on the driveway and Gretchen is missing. When she reappears, Gretchen turns herself in and confesses to the murder of James Omar. Josie has an immediate gut feeling that there is much more to this and that Gretchen can't possibly have killed Omar. So begins an intense investigation that will link them back to a series of unsolved murders in Seattle, Washington that were known as the victims of the Soul Mate Strangler. In addition, the case has them looking into activities of a motorcycle gang. How is Gretchen connected to both the strangler and the gang? She's always been an enigma to her fellow police, but now her secrets are about to be revealed. NO SPOILERS.
I really like all the characters in this series and am glad to see that Josie is finally settling in with her new-found family, getting to know her twin sister, and that a romance with Noah is on track. She's always been focused and dedicated to her job, but now she's a bit more well-rounded with a decent personal life to help with stability and sobriety. I'm totally addicted to this series, which should be read, in order, from the beginning, and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
I love the Josie Quinn books and hope there is more. Then again I loved the stand alone books too. There was a mystery in a mystery involving a regular in all the stories that you care about from the other books. I'll take Lisa Reagan books any way she wants to write them series or stand alone
Ohhh yessss this is from start to finish one hell of a brilliant thriller that just grabs you, pulls you in and doesn’t let go still it reaches a real stonker of an ending. Full of twists and exquisite writing from the genius author Lisa Regan this series featuring detective Josie Quinn has just got better and better with each book, learning more of the background of both Josie and her team which makes it a truly captivating read...I devoured it, just couldn’t put it down and now feel lost as I have some time to wait till the next instalment so please write as quick as you can Lisa. So what we have here is everything a thriller should be exciting, compulsive and a damn good story so I urge you to read it and also the others in the series you really won’t be disappointed at all I loved it.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
With book four in the series, Josie seems to be settling down in her personal life. She’s re-discovered her family and has her drinking under control. But now there’s a shakeup with her team when a young man is killed in Gretchen’s driveway and Gretchen disappears. Then several says later she reappears and confesses. “Gretchen was a locked door and no one had the key.” Everyone likes Gretchen, but no one really knows her. Could she have done this? Josie refuses to believe it.
As with the prior books, this is a straightforward police procedural. Although here we are given glimpses to a series of crimes in Seattle taking place years before. As the book progresses, the stories weave together but that doesn’t mean the reader has a better feel for what’s going on.
The story does a good job of keeping you guessing. It can easily be read as a stand alone. Once again, the problem is the unbelievability of the ending. Regan has a tendency to go over the top.
My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
I always have a weak spot for a good detective thriller series, and Detective Josie Quinn has quickly grown into one of my favorites. I have been enjoying spending time with his main character in the fictional city of Denton, and book number four is without doubt another great addition to the series. If you like your detective thrillers fast, intense and basically similar to crazy rollercoaster rides, you definitely have to try this series. What a ride! I wasn't sure what else could be happening after all Denton and its habitants have already gone through, but Lisa Regan has another surprise in store and the plot intensifies. One of the reasons the series works this well is that the main characters are easy to like and connect to. Between this, the writing style and a gripping plot you will definitely want to free some of your time when you start reading Her Final Confession. Did I think some aspects of the plot were a bit too farfetched and not everything was credible? Without doubt. Does this take away from the overall credibility of the story and made me raise my eyebrows at points? Maybe. But the fact is: Her Final Confession is still one heck of an entertaining and intense ride and the story had me at serial killer. (Ok, technically long before that.) It was fascinating to find out more about both Gretchen's past and learn more about Josie... Even though some plot twists and facts were a bit too convenient and farfetched. This is the only minor flaw of what has been an excellent detective thriller series so far, and I'm already looking forward to the next installment.
I have consistently enjoyed the books of this detective thriller series so far and book number four is no different. Her Final Confession is fast, suspenseful and filled with plot twists and shocking surprises. Intense is an understatement! While not everything about the plot and twists is exactly credible, it's still quite easy to forget about the credibility and enjoy the ride anyway. The writing style and the characters have a lot to do with this! Entertaining, intense and full of suspense: Her Final Confession is without doubt another excellent addition!
I thought that the start of the book was hard to get into but after a few chapters, I was hooked and couldn't leave it down. It's a gripping read and it can be read as a stand alone as there are hints of earlier books that gives background without rehashing the entire story. I will be downloading the other books in the series. I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review.
This new Josie Quinn book does not disappoint. It is packed with action and intrigue. Josie is up to her usual tricks, risking life and bending rules to solve a crime that has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. When a dead man is found in the yard of another police officer (Gretchen), Josie and her team are torn between solving the murder and finding Gretchen, who seems to have disappeared, making her seem guilty of the murder. This is made worse, when Gretchen appears at the police station and insists they arrest her for the murder of the young man. However, another murder in town sends Josie on a mission that takes her to New York in order to start to uncover the roots. In the midst of the investigation, Josie is growing to appreciate her new found family, especially her twin sister, and the son of her dead ex-husband. Meanwhile, she and her partner, Noah, continue to have their romantic plans thwarted by work and family obligations. Will they ever have a chance to consummate their budding relationship? You'll have to read the book to find out. I look forward to the next installment in this series.
Her Final Confession is book 4 in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan.
Absolutely outstanding! Just wow, this book was incredible, I loved it. The first three books were amazing but the series is getting better with every book, this literally had me sitting on the edge of my seat holding my breath.
The twists kept coming, all were a surprise I didn’t see coming. There were so many wow moments, I was totally engrossed and couldn’t put the book down. The main plot involved one of Josie’s team which made it even more thrilling because we know this person, she can’t be going through this, it’s not right!
I’m not going to go into the story line of the book there is a pretty good precis below from the publisher, this review is about my feelings on the book. I really enjoyed it, there is a lot to like about this book, it’s full of suspense and action, it will keep you guessing and will leave you breathless.
I loved this book, I’m giving it 5 stars, I can’t wait for the next instalment in the Josie Quinn series!
4.5 stars
Another solid, well thought out and perfectly paced book by Regan!!
When Gretchen Palmer turns herself in for the murder of a young man found shot and with a photo pinned to his back, Josie does not believe it. True, Gretchen keeps to herself and doesn't share much about her life, but she has been a trusted member of the Denton Police Department and Josie knows there is more to this confession and crime than there appears to be.
As Josie investigates Gretchen's past, more bodies are found. What is the connection? Is there a connection? Why would Gretchen confess?
This is a great addition to the Josie Quinn series. As Regan gives us more of a background on Gretchen, the reader is also given a glimpse into Josie's life and into her relationships with those in her life including her sister, Trinity, and Noah to name a few.
This was a fast read for me. I didn't want to put this down! I wanted to know more about Gretchen, her past, the current crime and to see how the case would be resolved. This has quickly become one of my favorite series and this book did not disappoint. I found it to be suspenseful, riveting and a real page turner.
If you have not read this series, I highly recommend it. I believe each book can be read as a stand alone but why miss out on an outstanding series? Plus, there is character development from one book to the next so please start at the beginning!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another awesome book in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. This book follows Josie as she attempts to unravel the case against her colleague Gretchen who appears to be on the run after possibly shooting a young man at her home. I was always curious about Gretchen's back story as she was very self contained. This book did not disappoint! The road to unraveling the story was intriguing and all the pieces fit together seamlessly. Every piece of info that Regan puts in the book does lead somewhere- nothing is extraneous. I enjoyed visiting Josie's life and seeing her interact with her new family and friends as well as her new romance. I can't wait for the next installment in the Josie Quinn series.
Another non-stop thrill ride from Lisa Regan. The depth and complexity of the Josie Quinn series is amazing. I have such a hard time putting these books down.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.
Seriously people, you need to get on board the Josie Quinn train if you haven't already.!!! This series is fantastic and addictive. Josie Quinn is such a strong, likeable and fun character. This is book 4 and they show no signs of slowing down. Her Final Confession had me wanting one more chapter even when the chapters ran out!!
Josie arrives at the scene of the crime to find a murdered young student with a photo pinned to his chest. The address of this murder is that of one of their own, Gretchen, who is also Josies friend. Gretchen is missing and the prime suspect. Josie and Noah are not convinced, even when she the murder. Getting very little sleep and travelling around the country Josie won't stop until she incovers the shocking truth. This ending had me stunned... it was brilliant!! Bring on book 5!!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
This one has it all from complicated, dimensional characters and relationships to crimes ingeniously pulled off. Never stops moving. The writing is so tight and well crafted you’ll read it in a night or two
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this ARC. Gretchen has confessed to the murder of a young man. But Detective Josie Quinn knows her colleague too well and realises she's innocent and sets out to prove it! It takes Josie back several years to the reign of a vicious serial killer! Such a complicated web for Josie to untangle.
This was absolutely brilliant and I cannot wait to see what comes next from the equally brilliant Lisa Regan. Five definite stars!!
Clever. Clever. Clever! Lisa Regan has done it again with another brilliant thrilling read! I am so grateful to have read all the Josie Quinn series, and always can't wait for the next one!
From page one you are drawn into an interesting nail bitting mystery that you honestly can't wait to find out what happened, so cleverly written I did not see the ending coming! Lisa's writing style is so fluid and you get super invested in all the characters especially Josie! If you haven't read her books, READ THEM NOW you will not be disappointed!!
