This is the fourth book in the riveting Detective Josie Quinn series. A young man is shot in the back in the front yard of Detective Gretchen Palmer’s home. Gretchen was a detective in Philadelphia prior to being hired, by Josie, as a detective in the Denton, Pennsylvania police department. When Gretchen is nowhere to be found, the chief is ready to issue an arrest warrant for first degree murder. Josie and Lt. Noah Fraley ask for time to locate Gretchen as they don’t believe she is capable of murder, let alone shooting an unarmed man in the back. Josie and Noah will have to dig in to Gretchen’s very secretive background by contacting officers she worked with in Philadelphia. In addition, they investigate the background of the young man who was killed as it doesn’t appear that he had any connection to Gretchen or Denton, PA. A very intriguing mystery that has flashbacks to past events before bringing you back to the current investigation. When Gretchen admits to killing the young man and turns herself in to the police, Josie and Noah know they are running out of time to save their colleague from prison. This mystery will grab you from the very beginning with twists and turns that you will not see coming. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. Wow, this book took an unconventional path to the ending and it was brilliant. Its infusion of the past, the current storyline in the search for a missing detective who may also be a murderer, the relentless investigation by Josie into that detective's past life to prove her innocence, and finally the twisted and surprising ending.
Every book in this series has surprised me in one way or another. Detective Gretchen Palmer past and how the author chose to slowly reveal it to the reader was captivating. You were riveted to the story wanting the next reveal that Josie uncovered..
I cannot wait to see what's next in this exciting series..
Detective Josie Quinn is no longer Chief of Police, but in many ways that's something of a relief, although it does mean that she doesn't quite have the autonomy that she had. It also means that the other detectives have a habit of calling her 'boss'. It's the autonomy bit that strikes home though when she has to watch a fellow officer being arrested for a cold-blooded murder, but what other conclusion can you come to when the officer goes missing, her vehicle and phone are off the radar and there's the body of a young man in her driveway? Josie Quinn can't believe that Gretchen - the woman she brought onto the Denton police force - could be guilty of such a crime, but she and Noah Fraley are not going to have much time to prove that Gretchen is innocent, and Gretchen doesn't seem inclined to help them.
The new chief of police is two dimensional - largely there to complain and be obstructive - but otherwise the characters are good. Josie Quinn comes off the page well and I warmed to her. Her partner - in the job and potentially in real life - Noah, is convincing. I did worry that Gretchen might remain the hard-nosed officer, but as her back story unravels you understand exactly why she's the way that she is.
It's a neat, if slightly far-fetched plot, but suspend disbelief and you get a good story that held my attention well enough that I finished the book with enjoyment over just a couple of days. I'd happily read more of the series and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.
Another brilliant book in the Josie Quinn series. I have read all 4 and enjoyed all of them immensely. It can be read as a stand-alone but it’s better to read them in order so you can get the background information but they are all brilliant anyway!! I love all the twists and turns that are usual for her books so it keeps you guessing. It’s one of those books where you have to keep reading to find out what happens but at the same time you don’t want the book to end. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
More like 3.5. I Ienjoyed this book. It had a good pace and interesting characters but I found that I preferred her other book I read more, book 2. With that being said, I would still like to go back and read books 1 and 3 as I really enjoy the main character and the people in her life.
First Josie Quinn story for me and I will certainly look out for other stories with her. Her final confession an interesting insight to American biker gang culture which the story revolves around. Look forward to another encounter with this detective!
Love this series so couldn’t wait to read the lastest one! Did not disappoint, sat and read it in one afternoon. Brilliant story, lots of twists that I didn’t see coming.
Thanks to #NetGalley for this ARC copy of #HerFinalConfession
This is the fourth book in the Josie Quinn series. It can be read as a stand-alone but it benefits the reader for it to be included as part of the series.
Detective Josie Quinn is put at odds in trying to prove her friend and fellow officer, Gretchen Palmer, is innocent of murder. Especially considering that Gretchen showed up days after the crime confessing to it being her fault. Josie’s Captain has given her a timeline, her partner and boyfriend, Noah, doesn’t seem too convinced of Gretchen’s innocence either. As Josie digs deeper into friend’s case she begins to discover that Gretchen’s past is not been what it seems. Will Josie be able to clear Gretchen’s name? Or did her friend really commit murder?
Lisa Regan has offered another solid suspense novel in this series. She provides the reader a multifaceted plot with interesting and developed characters that can support the storyline. This novel would benefit those craving a milder suspense story without graphic details or detailed romance scenes. Good read. 4 stars.
I have completely fallen for the Josie Quinn series, from the very first page of the very first book I knew I was going to love it. I’m already very excited for the next instalment.
Her Final Confession, the fourth book in the series, is just as addictive and emotional as the other three and I was gripped instantly.
You’re thrown right into the middle of it as always. A body of a young boy has been found right out side Josie’s friend, Gretchen’s house, with a picture of a child pinned to him. Josie knows Gretchen enough to know that she isn’t a murderer, but with Gretchen know where to be seen, Josie has to find a way to prove her innocence. You follow Josie, as always as she hunts down the murder while uncovering a hell of a lot of secrets.
I was obsessed, I couldn’t stop myself from reading. Every time I expected it to get a bit slow something else popped up to keep me interested and well and truly gripped. You’re thrown this way and that, lead to believe all sorts, and when you think you have it all worked out another curveball is thrown right at you. It was an incredible read. I got to know Josie, Noah and Gretchen so much more and I genuinely feel lost without them. I am more than excited for the next book and I cannot wait to see where Josie takes us next.
Highly recommend to any crime thriller lover, I promise you you will love this series.
Also - I would say it can be read as a stand-alone but I wouldn’t recommend it. To get the full experience you need to read them all, they’re all amazing.
Thank you to Netgalley, the Bookouture & Lisa Regan for allowing me to read an arc copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Oh my gosh! This book was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Lisa Regan gets even better (which is amazing as I thought her last two books were phenomenal). Her development of Josie Quinn is fantastic - and the storyline/mystery is all absorbing. So many twists and turns along the way - both in Josie's personal and professional lives. And, I loved how Ms. Regan wove in Josie's "new" family and Trinity into this book. Most certainly one of my most favorite books of the year (and I think I said that with Josie book #3)... I can hardly wait to see where Ms. Regan takes her next. Thank you!
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy this book even though I didn't read the first three books of this series.
I really love that it focus on one point of view which was Joise as she set out to find why her colleague and friend Detective Gretchen would confess to the murder of young man on her door step.
As she dig into Gretchen past she found out things that she never could imagined.
There are twist and turns that leave you with a outcome you never saw coming.
I'm so going to have to get the other three book of this series. Even though I love mystery thrillers especially with a women lead. I like Joise and Noah working together but I was happy their romance didn't overpower the story.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Final Confession, the fourth novel to feature Detective Josie Quinn of the Denton PA Police Department.
When the body of a young man is found shot to death in Detective Gretchen Palmer’s doorway a BOLO is put out for her and all but Josie believe her to be guilty. Josie insists that there is more to the shooting than meets the eye and is astonished when Gretchen hands herself in. This, if anything, spurs her on to investigate the secretive Gretchen’s past and find the reason for her strange behaviour.
I thoroughly enjoyed Her Last Confession which is a high octane read with plenty of twists and turns, told almost exclusively from Josie’s point of view. The single narrative is a welcome and refreshing change from the current fad for multiple points of view, allowing the reader to really concentrate on events as they happen and to speculate on what is to come. I love it. The plot is told at breakneck speed with what seems like developments on every page so there is no wastage. Ms Regan has outdone herself in her plotting which will require a massive suspension of disbelief to come anywhere near credible but it doesn’t actually matter because it is fiction designed to occupy and entertain the reader which it does admirably.
Josie Quinn is a fairly standard protagonist, stubborn, smart and frequently the lone dissenting voice in a department happy to settle for the easy option. She has an exotic back story which is explored in previous novels so I won’t expand on it and now is slowly getting used to a new reality. It jives with the generally OTT nature of the plots that her background is similarly overloaded. Restraint is not an overly used word and I love it because it makes the read fun.
Her Final Confession is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Her Final Confession by Lisa Regan that I read and reviewed.
This series only gets better as it goes on. Josie Quinn has to be one of my favorite female lead characters in any series that is out in any market of books out there. She is the full package and when you are reading a book in this series you are going to have an excellent story with a kick butt female cop who knows how to get the bad guy and take the reader on one great ride on the way.on
As for this fourth book in the series Josie is trying to help prove
her friend and member of her team, Gretchen, did not kill a young man in cold blood in her driveway even though Gretchen is pleading guilty and going down for murder without a fight. With the help of her boyfriend partner, Noah, Josie will have to dig into Gretchen past and find out the truth to what happened that day in the driveway and what a serial killer is doing in her town.
This is another great story by Lisa Regan and she just makes Josie Quinn better. I loved this book. Noah and Josie work so well together and it was great watching their relationship grow. I can't wait to see where the characters go next.
Needless to say Her Final Confession gets five out of five stars.
Her Final Confession. Lisa Regan
This is book 4 in the Detective Josie Quinn series, my favourite American crime series of the moment.
Quinn is career Detective working in the Denton Police Department. Denton is a small City with a small Police Force, but enough crime to keep everybody busy.
Quinn picks up the worst of the cases, with good reason, she solves them.
But this case is going to tax her and her team to the limits.
One of the other detectives on her team is missing, and a young man has been found dead at her home, shot in the back.
As much as everybody wants to think Gretchen is innocent, and that there is a good explanation, nobody except Quinn is really convinced she is not responsible for the young man’s death.
When Quinn begins to look into the case she realises just how little she knows about Gretchen, even though she hired her, and she had become one of her closest confidants.
The investigation leads Quinn to New York where she finds out more about Gretchen than she imagined. The woman had lived a nightmare for years and nobody knew.
The investigation takes in historical murders, under-cover cops and outlaw biker gangs.
The threads of this web weave one hell of a story that gradually leads to an outcome that I never saw coming.
Lisa Regan writes great stories. I love the character Josie Quinn. She is tough but vulnerable. Her back story is laid out in the first 3 books in the series and I can’t recommend reading them highly enough.
It’s no secret that I love crime series books that have underlying stories for the characters. This is one of the best, and as usual when I finished it, I wanted to read what Quinn is up to next.
Lisa Regan has become a favourite and I love this series. Josie is a dedicated police detective. In this book she sets out to prove that her friend, a fellow police detective, did not murder a young man in cold blood. I read past my bedtime to finish this book because I could not put it down. This series keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for Josie's next case. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book,
Her Final Confession (A Josie Quinn Mystery) by Lisa Regan was quite the addictive book (as described). Josie Quinn is a strong lead female character, and I enjoyed the interactions between her and the other characters. Their dialogue and interactions were believable. The book even has the typical higher-up that clashes with Josie and Chitwood fit the bill perfectly for being a difficult adversary.
There were parts in the story where I felt I missed some backstory regarding the characters in having not read all of the previous books, but the author did a good job in giving just enough information to understand the plot.
The story toward the end was a bit hard to follow, but overall Her Final Confession was a page-turning mystery, and the book was hard to put down and kept my interest throughout. I like Lisa Regan's writing style and the pace of this storyline.
Another winner from Lisa Regan!
I love the Josie Quinn series....they are well written....I feel I know Josie and her family!
This story was full of suspense....right up until the end. Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read one of my favourite authors books in exchange for an honest review. Can’t wait to see what Josie and her team get up to next!
Her Final Confession is the latest Josie Quinn novel by Lisa Regan. It is a stand alone story, but so much richer for having read the previous books in this series. Ms Regan has another winner with Her Final Confession. Difficult to put down there comes a time when it is impossible not to continue reading. Some edge of your seat moments and fair warning, there may be a few tears, too. I was given an early copy to review.
Josie Quinn is one hell of a detective.
She also just can't seem to catch a break. This is the fourth book in the series and this time, the story focuses on Gretchen, Josie's colleague.
A young man has been shot in Gretchen's driveway, and she is currently nowhere to be found. Josie sets out to find out what happened.
The story was enjoyable to read, I thought I had figured out what was going on but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was wrong!
I will happily give this book 5 stars. I want more Josie!
