Quilt Big is a beautiful book that gives detailed instructions on making regular sized quilt blocks BIG.
There are instructions written out and easy to follow. Quilt block diagrams illustrate the blocks and the steps to create them. All of this is sandwiched in with photographs of both blocks and while quilts.
Quilt Big is not only instructional, but pretty to look through.
I decided to review this book for my oldest daughter who is 13 taking Quilting for 4-H and I am glad I had the opportunity to read this book. My daughter and I are NEW to quilting and I found this book very easy to read and the instructions were very well written and I love that I can see what the blocks should look like when finished. My daughter wants to make the Ohio Star block Quilt and the pattern in this book has been the best one yet.
This is a great book for those new to quilting. The concept is to make huge squares instead of tiny ones. It's easier and quicker. The designs are contemporary and stylish for modern homes.
This book has very detailed information on multiple blocks. I think it would be very helpful, especially for the beginner quilter. The only thing I didn't understand is the different between the finished block size and the unit size. You would think that if the finished block is 6" with a 1/4" seam allowance that the unit block would be 6 1/4" bigger? I'll definitely be using this book as a reference guide. #QuiltBig #NetGalley
In her new book Quilt Big, Jemima Fiendt enlarges traditional quilt blocks to 15", 18" and 24" size. The resulting quilts not only work up quickly, but they also have a Modern vibe suitable for today's home decor trends. Another plus is that the larger blocks are great for bigger and bolder prints!
The book includes 22 quilt block patterns and 17 quilt designs.
What I especially liked about the book is how Fiendt explains how to resize quilt blocks based on their grid. She explains how to enlarge each unit (four-patch, three-patch, and sixteen patch blocks) to create a larger block.
Fiendt shows how to construct each block with easy piecing techniques. The quilt projects include quilts of various sizes, pillows, and table runners. She believes in making the quilt back look interesting, too, and explains how to make pieced backings with extra blocks and fabrics.
I received a free ebook from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

I love the idea of making quilts, but all that piecing? That can get tedious. Enter Quilt Big! Blocks are upsized so the piecing goes much more quickly and the maker can get from fabric stack to quilt in record time! The book includes a section on quilting basics with lots of great tips for beginners to save time and headaches. This is followed by instruction on how to upsize block patterns. Then it moves into the quilt blocks and finishes with lots of quilt and other project ideas. Instruction for block assembly is clearly illustrated. The book includes a nice selection of blocks and also includes options for creating backings. This book would be an especially good fit for a beginner quilter.
Thank you to F+W Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Interesting book, and fun to flip through. Starts out showing each of the blocks separately, then shows how you can use them in a quilt. Overall, a fun book, and one I would recommend for beginners of quilting. I tend to do more fussy work, so probably would only use some of these if I needed a quilt in a hurry. Good tips, and easy to follow. Would recommend.
This book is great for beginning quilters! The ideas shared will be sure to gt you quilting and making large projects quickly!
This was a wonderful book filled with detailed instructions and beautiful vibrant pictures. It was easy to follow and gave excellant examples.
The instructions are easily interpreted along with the graphs and pictures, the pictures are color true and vibrant. This DIY on quilting is fun for beginners like myself, I love the way the pictures are big and clear. Its inviting appealing and fun.
The thing that makes this book different from other quilt books is the fact that the author is showing how to create larger blocks (thus "Quilt Big") than are usually used. I also like that the quilting projects provided here don't always just repeat the block over & over--they often feature some large areas of plain fabric that make the quilt blocks "pop."
The book has patterns for 19 different blocks, as well as 17 different projects that use the blocks. There is also a section on making the quilt backing. I found these to be unique designs and the fabric choices used for the photos were excellent. They really gave me good ideas for my own projects. Each set of instructions is simple but complete, and very easy to understand. Excellent diagrams are provided to show how to assemble the blocks and the projects.
I would definitely purchase this book to have in my quilting library. It's a nice basic reference everyone should have.
