I enjoy this author quite a bit so I definitely jumped at the chance to try to get this novella. It is like her other books, which are of course, extremely good, but this one is told from the hunk’s perspective. Which I found I rather enjoyed. If you haven’t read this author yet then you really should check her out.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
This book was a short, but nice read. It was nicer way to fast! It was sweet and sexy, and I really wanted more. This was my first read from this author, and it definitely won’t be my last!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are own
Told completely in male POV by our main character, alpha, and security specialist Pierce Blackwell. What starts off as a case of mistaken identity in a bar becomes a job, which becomes something else entirely. Jezebel "Jez" Stuart rightfully holds everyone at arm's length. However, something that is unable to do with Pierce, especially since she needs his help to keep her sister safe.
I would consider this a bit of a forbidden romance of a snobbish client and a womanizer security specialist. This becomes a dilemma on many front as Pierce is not someone who goes back for seconds (which he does) and crosses lines at work (which he does again as well... multiple times if you know what I mean).
This is a sweet, standalone novel which was previously published under the name Bitch Slap. I did not read the previous version but I am very happy to continue on the series nonetheless. The story moves at a quick pace but it has time to introduce some secondary characters whose story I really want to dive it.
After being dumped at the altar Pierce Blackwell becomes a cynic regarding relationships. He's now all about his job and building his business. He still loves women -- but only for having fun and nothing serious. That was his motto until he meets Jezebel Stuart. He starts out wanting to help Jezebel and her sister stay safe. But as he gets to know her he wants more.
** spoiler alert ** Lovely Little Liar
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion! No doubt that is one fine as hell cover....
Novella length story by a favorite author... This story was too quick. I love this author but this story felt like a wham, bam, thank you ma'am. The fleshing out was too little and too easy to make this a good read.
What did I like.... ..... ..... I'm still trying to understand why this amazing author would unleash this story? I'm not a fan of novella length books and when I looked down to see the story was barely there before my kindle hit 90% I was a bored individual. This is supposed to be a rewrite?
Would I buy this book? No, I'd have a hard time recommending it either. Too short to really like and other than Pierce's failure to commit no real story.
Thoughts for the author? I'm not sure if this is short and for a group anthology but a warning would be nice.... two stars.
"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
It was an okay read, too short for my liking and it didn’t keep me hooked like other book do, I found myself skipping through because I didn’t feel a connection with the characters sadly.
This book is the first in a new series. It is lighter compared to the books in the Stark universe. Julie Kenner’s writing is flawless and I loved the great cast of new and secondary characters. This new series definitely has potential, I can’t wait for more. If you are looking for a fun, sweet and sexy story, then Bitch Slap is a good choice!

Love has a way of making believers out of the most surprising individuals. Jez and Pierce are clueless when it comes to love. Lust is another matter. Lovely Little Liar is battle of hearts that will make sure that frown turns into a smile and even the most jaded of hearts believes in the happily ever after. J. Kenner keep the senses of full alert while putting a move on the heart. Loved it.
After being burned by love Pierce wants nothing more to do with it, that is until he meets Jez. She is a woman used to being in charge and isn't afraid to let Pierce know it. When Jez hires Pierce and his company to care for her sister the two can't fight the attraction to each other. Can she learn to let go of control and can he learn to love again? This book was a good quick read. I do wish there was a bit more to the book, there were some parts that were a little choppy and a bit more may have leveled that out a bit.
Pierce and Jez both have trust issues but when these to meet sparks fly, will they find a way to make a relationship work? Fast-paced fun read with loads of drama and suspense. The characters have steamy chemistry and the story has plenty of drama and twists and turns that keep you hooked from beginning to end. I really liked it.
This was previously released as a novella and was written as such. I enjoyed the quick read but the plot was thin and the characters not fully developed.
This is a short novella with plenty of sexual heat and sexy banter. The hero is head of a security firm and in a case of mistaken identity he meets Jaz who is looking to hire a security detail for her famous sister. One thing leads to another and they fall for each other fast and hard.
Good read if you're looking for a quick, hot romance novel.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sexy little story with all the happy!
J. Kenner delivers all you need in this bite sized read.
Sexy rugged former military man working security...check
A no nonsense woman with a backbone...check
Chemistry ...check
An emotional conflict...yes!!
A chance to change a bad decision...☺
So like I said, everything you could want...oh and with the rest of the Blackwell-Lyons team, a promise of more!
3.5 Stars The first book in the Blackwell-Lyon series, Lovely Little Liar is a quick read with entertaining characters. A little predictable but with passionate romance and a good storyline I would still recommend you pick this up as an in between sexy read.
3.75 stars-- LOVELY LITTLE LIAR is the first instalment and novella in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult, Blackwell-Lyon erotic romance series. This is security specialist Pierce Blackwell, and PA Jezebel Stuart’s story line. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s best selling Stark, and Man of the Month series.
NOTE: LOVELY LITLE LIAR was first published as Bitch Slap in June 2017. Lovely Little Liar contains expanded content not found in the original release.
Told from first person point of view (Pierce Blackwell) LOVELY LITTLE LIAR follows the building relationship between security specialist Pierce Blackwell, and Jezebel Stuart. Thinking he was meeting his one-night stand, Pierce Blackwell, comes face to face with a woman who believes he is someone else. Enter Jezebel Stuart, the sister and manager of up and coming young but vilified actress Delilah Stuart, and the woman with whom Pierce will fall in love.
We are introduced to Jezebel’s sister, Delilah Stuart; Pierce’s sister Kerrie Blackwell, as well as Pierce’s business partners Cayden and Connor. There may be something developing between Kerrie and Connor. Cayden and Connor’s stories are next in Pretty Little Player, and Sexy Little Sinner.
BITCH SLAP is a predictable and familiar story line; an erotic, quick building romance between two people who have been hurt by previous relationships. Pierce doesn’t do relationships or love, and the introductory chapters reveal exactly what and who Pierce is looking for. Jezebel Stuart is a woman betrayed by a former lover but a woman who is determined to protect her younger sister from the rabid fans who are currently vilifying the up and coming star. The plotline is a little more fleshed out than the original release. The premise is entertaining; the romance is passionate; the characters are colorful and energetic.

J. Kenner always writes a hot engaging romance. Was shorter than I would have liked. It was originally published as the story Bitch Slap. However, it is expanded with new content.
It's a very mellow type of story. Pierce is a man scared to make a connection with woman because of how he was hurt by one. But his instant interest in Jez draws him to want more with her. To try. Jez has difficulty trusting and letting go of control since she has been protecting and managing her sisters life for years. She is feisty and strong. And Pierce shows her how to put herself first. He is tender and attentive with her. And for both of them jumping into the unknown will pay off if they finally find love.
I so wanted to love this book but it wasn't the case. It was ok but I really had a hard time reading this one because I got bored. I know some will like this more but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Different from the other books I have read by J. Kenner, I was taken by surprise. I can’t say in a good way or a bad way however. I did like the story and Kenner’s writing is top notch as usual, but i didn’t feel connected to the characters like I should. I wish the Delilah's character was a little more developed. At the beginning, I thought she was going to be a selfish teenage girl, yet by the end you were applauding her selfless actions. Pierce and Jezebel did have hot chemistry and to me that is what held the book together. Overall a good read.
