Fast paced sexy romance
J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) has a talent for bringing her characters to life as was evident in Lovely Little Liar.
Pierce and Jez's first meet was original and quickly showed a lot of who they are as people. I loved that as the story progresses we learn more amidst the banter and steamy moments. The secondary characters also caught my attention and I look forward to learning more about them in the future books in this series.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
Pierce Blackwell was jilted just a couple of hours before he was due to marry. This has left him jaded and distrustful of the whole women and romance thing so he’s decided to concentrate on building up Blackwell Lyon, the security company he set up with two ex-army buddies. For fun and relaxation he uses dating apps where women know the score and his social life is basically a series of one night stands. This leads to him meeting Jezebel Stuart, who’s in Austin with Delilah, her actress sister. However things might not be what they seem.
This is the start of a new trilogy featuring the men of Blackwell Lyon and is a short, steamy read. The characters are well written and likeable with lots of witty dialogue between them and, despite the book’s brevity, the story doesn’t seem rushed or forced. I’m looking forward to the remaining books in the series.
Lovely Little Liar is entertaining, and a sweet romance that’s lighthearted, fun, and serious. J. Kenner brings banter and heat as mistaken identity brings these two together.
Both are meeting other people, under quite different circumstances, until taken by lust and pure wishful thinking Pierce mistakes Jezebel for his blind date hook-up. After being rejected three hours before his wedding Pierce doesn’t do relationships anymore. He is doesn’t have the time and doesn’t want to put in the effort. But when Jezebel makes a hasty exit, he realizes that just maybe he wanted more with her.
Jezebel is looking to hire some security while her sister the actress in town only to get nowhere with the handsome security guy. But when he comes to their rescue a few hours later, when their location is compromised by a hotel employee tweet, Jezebel sees a very different side to him.
These two, quickly develop wild cravings and desperate longings for each other. With nightly firing and daily rehiring, of the security hunk, it looks like Pierce just might have found the right one after all. Great short read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Awesome book! Finished in one day! I’ve loved all of J. Kenner’s books and always look to grab the newest the second it comes out! She’s a master story teller !
What's a better match than a PB and J? Nothin. Pierce and Jez are definitely not looking for that happy ever after, and their original meeting is hillarious in their confusion. It gets better the more you look back on it. This was short and fast paced, with almost instalove and crazy good chemistry. I loved it.
within the ever-expanding stark world, we find the blackwell-lyon agency, a security firm based in austin, run by pierce blackwell and cayden and connor lyon. pierce takes the lead in lovely little liar, and does he fall hard.
jezebel stuart is incredibly protective of her sister, delilah. an up-and-coming actress, delilah has made enemies of her fans when she cheats on her celebrity boyfriend. think kristen stewart–robert pattinson level drama. jez needs a security firm to help keep an eye on her sister.
when pierce and jez meet, they don't realize they believe the other to be someone else. this meet-cute of misunderstandings is super funny, but also just the right length to work without making the characters seem stupid. once pierce sorts out that he and jez were talking about different things, he also figures out that she needs him. like right now needs him, because there's been a security breach and delilah's location has been disclosed.
how he handles things goes a long way to convincing jez that he is worth trusting. a shared acquaintance does the rest.
this is a novella, so things amp up pretty quickly. jez and pierce have chemistry to spare and as a series starter this is just the right amount of intriuguing to make you want to read more about these characters.

OOH Who is this author and why haven't I read more of their books? I'm going to need to correct that ASAP.
Lovely Little Liar was such a fun novella to read, Pierce was just - yummy.
It was a quick read, but yet I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mistaken identity, hot security, little push and pull and off the charts chemistry between MC's are the perfect ingredients to a great book.
I really enjoyed this quick read. Both Pierce and Jezebel are jaded about love, but their attraction is immediate. I enjoyed the dialogue/banter, and the fact that the person the security company is hired to protect isn't the main focus of the story.
I did, however, find it unnecessary to have three character names begin with a hard C sound. His partners - twin brothers - Cayden and Connor, and his younger sister Kerrie. Also, in chapter one Pierce describes how his fiance broke off their engagement two weeks before the wedding, and then later he tells Jezebel that it was three hours before the wedding. That's a big difference that someone should have caught.
Kenner's writing is clever, clear, and concise. I would have liked the novella to be longer to explore emotions more, but I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this spin-off series.

Pierce was very hot and very sexy, and oh so perfect for Jezebel. I loved how she would fire him every night, so that could have a lot of hot sex. Then she would hire him back in the morning. Her sister, Delilah, was no slouch even though she was just an new adult. Nice epilogue
An expanded version from an anthology that went above and beyond the original I loved the additions to the story. A case of mistaken identity that goes way beyond a night rolling around in the sheets. This had some suspense, lots of lovin and a hottie. Can't go wrong with this!
It’s been a few years since I’ve read a book by this author. I figured diving in to a novella would be a good way to get reacquainted with her words. First, this is told in Pierces POV so I was already on board. Male POV is one of my biggest jams. For a novella, where things have to move a wee bit faster, I didn’t mind the insta-love after about a day that Pierce and Jez spent together. They had some pretty good chemistry going on. Overall I thought it was a pretty good story.
3.5 stars
Cute novella with a little bit of steam here and there. I loved the way it started out. I was hooked when the date/not really a date ended. The chemistry between Pierce and Jez was there, but then it fell a little flat for me. This is still a fun, quick read and if you’re into insta-love you’ll enjoy this story.
Romantic, Sexy and Old Friends....J. Kenner's Lovely Little Liar is an in credible book. The broody Pierce Blackwell meets Jezibel Stuart the meetings confused - until he figures it out and rides in to the rescue. Pierce and Jez - well their chemistry is combustible, but he's not a relationship kind of guy. Jez can indulge in Pierce while she's her because her life is beside her sister.
You just can't put this book down to see what happens next - you also get references and an appearance from characters from the World of Stark! That's we love J. Kenner, she so rocked it!
Pierce and his two friends own a security company in Austin, Texas. After Pierce got left at the alter, he has become a ladies man ... one night at a time. But when he accidentally meets Jez, he begins to rethink his love life. Jez just wants to protect her little sister (who is a movie star) from from crazed fans of her boyfriend ... who she cheated on. But when Jez meets a Pierce, she realizes she wants a life of her own.
This is a quick steamy romance. I laughed out loud when Pierce and Jez meet at the bar. Pierce is so arrogant I couldn’t help but like him. And Jez is a woman who isn’t easily persuaded. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for a Pierce’s business partners.

This is Jezebel and Pierce book, Pierce is ex military and runs a security firm Jezebel runs her famous sisters acting career. Jez sister is getting a lot of flak from the public from her high profile breakup with a big band member! She needs a good security team! In comes Pierce! The way they first meet us kind of funny! My main problem with this book is its way to short! I'm not real big on short stories! But this one was ok, well written, funny, sexy, all around just ok! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
I found this to be a lovely little story. I like a quick read that allows you to still develop a connection with the characters, and this book did so for me. I liked Pierce a lot; it took me a little longer to like Jez, but I got there. I loved that it was set in Austin, which is a town I live close to and love to visit. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I will definitely make an effort to read the other books in this series.
This was a short story that sounded really good from the description, but just didn't live up to it. I usually like this author, but this one just didn't do anything for me. There was nothing glaringly bad about it, but I read it two days ago and had to look uo the description again because I'd completely forgotten everything about it.
She’s a woman with layers, and so help me, I want to peel away each and every one of them. And that’s a dangerous way for a man like me to feel.
Who knew a case of mistaken identity could turn into so much more? Pierce Blackwell doesn’t date, he is waiting for his hook up, J, to show up at the bar when Jezebel ‘Jez’ Stuart shows up. Pierce thinks she is the J to his PB but he couldn’t be more off.
Both Pierce and Jez have ben hurt in the past when it comes to relationships, so when they form in instant connection it slaps them in the face and they fall hard and fast.
This was a quick and fun novella, it is also the start to a new series from J.Kenner. It gives you a great introduction to new characters and also mentions some familiar names from the Stark universe. This story is hot, steamy and sweet from the very beginning. There is no denying the insane chemistry between Pierce and Jez. Plus, despite being anti-relationship I love how sweet Pierce can be!
Since this is book one of a new series, you get a little hint of a something brewing between Pierce’s sister, Kerrie, and one of his business partners, Connor.
If you are a fan of J.Kenner this is definitely a must read novella.
**Title was previously published as Bitch Slap, but this new release has some expanded content**
Main Character Description: Pierce Blackwell, relationship jaded, former military and security expert. Jezebel Stuart, relationship jaded, sister and manager to actress Delilah Stuart.
Pierce mistakenly takes Jez as his one night stand he arranged from the 2Nite App. Jez mistakenly takes Pierce as the new head security guy for her actress sister Delilah. Pierce pieces the puzzle together after Jez storms out of the restaurant, only to save the day when Delilah's hotel location gets compromised.
This Novella is enjoyable read but since it is on the shorter side, you don't get too much meat into the relationship. These two meet, display instant attraction only to have to put it on hold when Jez ends up hiring Pierce's security firm to protect her sister. They struggle to contain that attraction until they no longer can.
With so many celebrity/bodyguard romances out there, I like that the author switched it up and made the celebrity a side character. That she made the sister who ultimately is living in her sisters world be the one to find love with the bodyguard.
If you are looking for a quick read that is pretty low angst, a sexy beginning story to a very likable couple, then this is a good choice.
You can breathe easy. This is not an intense read like her Stark books (though there is mention of Ryan from that series). It is a love story between a man in the security business who is hired to protect an up and coming actress. But it's not the actress that catches his attention. It's her sister.
Jez has done everything she can to protect her sister. Not only has her sister been burned, but so has she. She doesn't trust easy, so it surprises her when she trusts Pierce so easily. Pierce has his own problems with trust, and like with Jez, he finds that he trusts her easily too, despite his past.
Normally, I like a story with substance. Not just a fluff story (which is how I would describe this story in one word). There isn't a whole lot of emphasis on developing the characters or making too crazy of a plot line. It's a great book to read if you are looking for something like and quick and won't take years off your life.
The story reads quickly, easy to be done in 1-2 sittings. Usually I like these kinds of stories, but for me the pace was a little too fast. I was unable to really get into the story and the characters. There isn't much of a conflict in the story which means there is no big resolution. I expected here to be one considering all the hints that were being dropped in the beginning portion of the book. (
