Second Chance At The Ranch is written by Maxine Morrey and published by HQ Digital. The novel is set out in the Australian outback whilst she recovers from a terrible accident that has left her modelling career in tatters. Hero Scott is a successful model who keeps her emotions hidden behind a cool and icy facade in order to hid her true quiet, shy personality. She has gone to Hill ranch, a cattle station, to be with her older sister, Juliet, who is marrying Pete, a rancher. A romance blossoms between Hero and Nick. As the romance deepens the history and background explaining Hero’s fragility and aloofness emerges over a period of time. Both Hero and Nick are stubborn individuals, so although there is a strong chemistry between the pair, at others the sparks and tempers fly as neither one will back down. Nick has trust issues which will potentially prevent him from committing fully and trusting Hero. there enough to keep Hero in Australia or will she return to London for good?
The author created the perfect sisterly bond between Hero and Justine. Even though they live on two different continents the sisters still have a bond and understand each other. The relationship between Nick and Hero evolved and their adoration and love is clearly mutual. The side relationship between Hero and the side character, Joe adds fireworks to the storyline!
I received this book via Netgalley and HQ Digital in exchange for a honest review. #netgalley
A lovely romantic story.
This is my first read of this author's books, and it definitely will not be the last! I picked the book up on my way to bed thinking I would just read the first chapter but found I couldn't put it down! I kept wanting to see what happened next and before I knew it, I'd finished the book and it was 4 am in the morning. A good job it was Sunday morning and I didn't need to get up too early! A story of two sisters both living totally different lives, and two Australian brothers running a ranch. Both brothers swoon worthy in their own way. Give it a go, you definitely won't be disappointed!
Hero, a supermodel, a girl with the world at her feet, is not who she seems to be to onlookers. She bears devastating pain from her childhood that not even known by her beloved older sister. Juliet, married to an Australian sheep farmer, tries hard to persuade her sister to visit more frequently but Hero is feeling herself drawn to Juliet's handsome brother in law and, after letting her guard down with him once, is afraid to spend more time with him only to be spurned again.
A beautifully written, warm and understanding tale. Well worth reading.
This is a first for me by this author... but certainly won't be my last.
I absolutely loved this story... it's a highly emotive story, packed with history, angst, turmoil, stubborn determination and resistance, even when fate adds a cruel twist.
The characters were well written and easy to relate to.
It’s never too late for a second chance at love in this uplifting and warm-hearted romance.
It’s never too late to find love…
When Juliet Scott falls for ruggedly handsome Pete while away travelling, she never imagines how different her life will be to that of her sister, successful and beautiful model Hero. Based on a cattle station in the vast Australian Outback, Juliet’s life is now simple, down-to earth and honest, and the perfect antidote to the chaotic celebrity lifestyle that Hero leads in the UK.
With her striking brunette hair, perfect posture, and mesmerising green eyes, it is no wonder Hero has come so far in such a superficial industry. But when tragedy strikes, Hero finds herself in the arms of her sister, recuperating from a terrible accident on the other side of the world.
With her modelling career in tatters, and her scars more than just skin deep, Juliet worries that Hero will hide behind the mask she wears forever. But does Australia have something, or someone, to offer that London never could?
Once I started I just could not put it down... It takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and leave you with a big smile on your face and in your heart!
I look forward to reading more of Maxine's work.
Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.
This is another superb, captivating story by this talented author, grabbing me from the start and I confess I just didn’t want to put it down until I’d finished it! It is not a romantic comedy like many of the books I've read by her before but it is a fantastic read.
Hero Scott is a highly successful model with an icy facade that keeps others from discovering the real, shy and insecure person she really is. Through the story there are revelations from her past which explain so much of her behaviour and attitudes, but they’re only slowly revealed and I’m not going to give any spoilers here! When she travels out to the Hill Ranch in Australia where her beloved older sister, Juliet, is marrying Hero didn’t expect to make connections there, let alone to fall in love. However, nothing will go smoothly for this new pair as he also has a history which makes him resist their attraction and he has serious trust issues which won’t be helped by a meddlesome local! Hero’s relationship with Joe is a sideline but really adds extra heart to the whole story, he’s a superb character!
This is an emotive story, packed with history, angst, turmoil and stubborn determination and resistance, even when fate adds a cruel twist. The characters are all well developed and easy to relate to - and that includes some of the key secondary ones like Rupert and Paul! It is an enthralling romance which really has more than a second chance before there’s any chance of them having a happy ever after but the journey is so emotive it will have you feeling like weeping tears of sadness and tears of happiness as it progresses. I highly recommend that you keep your tissues handy and grab yourself a copy of this brilliant book, a fantastic, entertaining read by a tremendously talented author. It will take you through the whole gamut of emotions and leave you with a big grin on your face. I really hope there will be future books set in this area so we can catch up on events on Hill Ranch and the people who live and work in the area or have friends there - like Paul and Rupert!
I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
