A very enjoyable story of a year in the life of single mum, Frankie. Written as a diary, it charts Frankie’s struggles with her children (a teenager and a toddler), her ex husband, work, dating and playgroups, all accompanied by Prosecco and Jaffa cakes!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - it made me laugh and, occasionally, wince as Frankie’s antics were both believable and understandable - In numerous incidents I thought ‘there but for the grace of god go I’. The characters were well created and helped keep the story flowing.

A real page turner as, whilst there were no cliffhangers at the end of an entry, I always wanted to read just one more day before stopping.

I read this book courtesy of NetGalley. It's in diary format a la Bridget Jones style. An covers a year in the life of 40ish Frankie and her two children, one a teenager the other a 3 year old. It was nice to have an older mum as well, made it all so much more believable. It's a very lighthearted read, easy to find yourself binge reading it as it's really funny in places, easy to identify with if you've had children or are even a grandmother as I am!

I'd recommend it as a 4* star read as it's a little difficult to get into but once you're up with all the friends from playgroup and school, the ex and a the on-line dating (hilarious) you just can't put it down. I loved it and can see that there could easily be an ongoing library of her adventures in the future.

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I requested this expecting something similar to authors like the Unmumsy Mum, so was surprised it was actually a fiction book (although the author does write a blog in that vein). I enjoyed the book, as it was an easygoing, gentle read. The diary format worked well, although there are times I would have liked more detail about what was going on.

Written in the form of a diary covering a year in the life of Frankie with shades of Bridget Jones in the daily count of glasses of Prosecco and/or Jaffa Cakes consumed. Its a very lighthearted read and the portrayal of all the characters is very real with some brilliant and hilarious observations of mums with pre-school and teenage children. Jess, at 3 turning 4, is so funny and reminds me of my granddaughter who is the same age.

Frankie stumbles through life as a single mum coming up against totally believable events that anyone who has had children can identify with whether married or not. There is the strong bond of mum friends thrown together through the Playgroup situation with the love and support that can come out of such friendships plus a smattering of the snobby cliques that also form. Reminded me a little of Motherland which is a TV comedy series.

Wonderful, easy read. Made me laugh out loud a few times! I’m sure a lot of parents can relate to the ups and downs of parenthood.

When Frankie and Ian moved to Dorset it was meant to be a fresh start by the coast; move forward a few months and newly single Frankie is navigating a new world, aspiring to be just like picture perfect instagram account @sinple_dorset_life while in reality just being glad to have got through the day eating less than 5 jaffa cakes.

Playgroups and Prosecco follows Frankie throughout 2018 in the form of the diary she starts as a new years resolution; the short diary entry format keep up the pace as well as making it easy to dip in and out off, so perfect for busy readers. I got a bit of a Bridget Jones vibe from the way Frankie records her daily intake of Jaffa Cakes and awkward encounters at the start of most entries which I really liked. Its got quite a lot of awkwardly funny moments while also dealing with some difficult issues around co-parenting.

I gave this three stars, possibly if I had kids of my own I would of identified with more of the situations but would recommend to anyone who enjoys easy to read, funny novels.

As you can guess by the title, a light-hearted read following the activities at a toddlers’ playgroup and the home lives of the mums, the main character being single. I really enjoyed this and found I could identify with the characters. A good read.

This is quite a good read, and funny, even if you don't have children. However, coming from why mummy swears and why mummy drinks, this is a bit pale in comparison. Still worth a read, though.

I LOVED this book, about everyday life with a young family. Very funny, it made me giggle - a lot. Very well written. I would highly recommend this book to friends.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I thought it was a little rushe towards the end; big gaps for the holiday and Christmas. The characters were great and I loved the relationships between them. It didn’t end as I expected, but that was even better. There were a number of typos, but I am unsure whether I was given a copy that had not been proof read. I would recommend this to any single mums, or married ones because I think we could all relate to it.

I enjoy these blog-turned books. It was easy to read and follow and the author has a great story-telling voice. Her escapades into online dating were hilarious and the Bridget Jones-esque listing at the start of each entry was a nice touch.
Quick and sweet read to pass the time.

This is a hilarious, embarrassingly relatable and at times touching book about the life of single mum Frankie.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a light, easy read that had me laughing out loud because I’ve gone through the same things as Frankie with my children.
A must read for all mums out there.

So true to life is cringe making, I laughed so hard and drank every glass of Prosecco along with the mums. It’s enough to make you blush in sympathy. Brings back memories of my own inappropriate additions to a school lunch box, Heaven help all Parents everywhere.

Hillarious - made me laugh out loud. Brought back memories of my time taking my children to playgroup and how hard it can be at times. And how it can feel like a competition at time! Thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

A lighthearted and funny book, honestly written and the writer is bold to speak the perks of being a single parent. Definitely would recommend if you liked "Why Mummy Drinks".
I loved the honest tone.
