The book was so full of ideas which will keep me busy for a long time. Although I have practiced most of the techniques I did learn some new ideas. I love the Quilting Arts magazine and this publication is just as informative and very well presented.
A wonderfully artistic book that includes techniques to produce your own fiber art with easy to follow instructions. There are also many creative ideas and articles. Beautiful imagery and it is chock-full of inspiration that will get your creative juices flowing!
This book is focused on different techniques that are associated with making "art quilts," such as dying/painting fabrics, use of mixed media, embroidering, and creating your own art quilts. I'd suggest this for an advanced quilter, at best, who wants to try something different. That said, instructions are nicely organized and illustrated with good photos. There are several projects included in the book. Many seem to fall in the "kitsch"-y category, but others are quite beautiful works of art (e.g., the Lenten rose quilt). Some seem to not really fit with my view of quilting (e.g., the embroidered denim jacket). So, an interesting collection of projects, but you might only find one or two within that suits your fancy.
Having been a follower of the Quilting Art magazines for years, I was really happy to see this book. It combines and expands on all those wonderful techniques and articles published with a revisit to some project to make from these skills. It also has ideas on how to meld into an art group, both for learning and friendship.
As the magazine, this book is filled with excellent instructions, on how to achieve those wonderful effects on fabric for art quilts, or whatever takes your fancy.
There is the use of dyes and stitching to enhance pattern, design and creativity. But finally there is so much more to gain in friendship and confidence of ones shelf through this book.
Full of many varied ideas for the quilter who is ready to branch out a little. Lots of pictures and diagrams make instructions easy to follow. Sure to be something for everyone.
Varied techniques that are beautiful and inspiring. Great instructions that even a novice like myself can follow. This one gets your creativity flowing.
Wonderful and inspiring ideas for variety of art quilt techniques and projects. The projects expand on traditional ideas about the form and function of quilting, none of the projects are meant to cover a bed or to sleep under. A variety of media (paints, dyes), materials (canvas, metal leaf, teabags); and techniques (printing, painting) are combined with fabrics and threads or to create fabric-like surfaces to inspire one-of-a-kind works of art. Highly recommended!
This book was so much more than I expected! So many techniques for altering fabrics. While the various painting, stamping and stenciling techniques all produce interesting and beautiful results, I think the spin-art techniques were my favorite. Then the book moves on to projects large and small using hand stitching, embroidery and art quilting techniques. There's even a section on projects for groups - a nice addition for crafts that often tend toward solitude. This book would be a great fit for anyone interested in handcrafts and is sure to inspire creativity.
Thank you to F+W Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this beautiful book in exchange for my honest review.
It has been a feast for the eyes and my creative spirit to browse through the pages of this lovely book. Much more varied than I expected and full of original ideas. Although I would not want to attempt many of the projects I absolutely loved seeing the authors results. A lovely book that will appeal to many creative souls. Thank You
What an amazingly artistic book. Who new you could do so much with a piece f fabric and it still be called quilting fabric.
So many designs and options on how to be one who looks “outside the square” when making items.
My favourite is the happy birthday fabric ook, just adorable.
Very pleased to receive this book for an honest reviw, and it is one I will purchase for gifts for my friends.
I was super excited to get a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley. Can’t figure out if I want to paint fabric first or try the thread painting. So many creative ideas and how to get started doing them. Wondering how to get going doing these and more? Get this book you will not be disappointed. My granddaughter and I will be outside this summer dyeing fabric for sure! Big thanks to the author and publisher for the free download!
