This book was okay for me. I found the romance cute and believable, but didn't completely connect with the characters. Due to this, I wasn't as invested as I could have been in their romance. Overall, I liked the writing style and thought this was a cute, solid story.
Thanks to Netgalley for the copy of this book to review.
While I found this book to have a fun concept, I didn’t feel like I connected to the characters or got invested in the story overall.
Umm, okay, I didn't expect this from the synopsis?? I was expecting a cute and light romance but.. it wasn't that at all.
- there is a lots of romance, but I couldn't feel the chemistry between the characters.
- The writing was definitely odd at so many places.
- There are so many ethical issues!! Ethical issue of Love bug(?), ethical issue of giving confidential information
- And almost every character seemed alike? It was like no one had their own personality
Definitely won't recommend.
Molly and Sarah are sisters that survived tragedy and forged ahead together in an unbreakable bond. The Love Solution is a witty and fun novel that puts Molly and Sarah’s relationship to the test. Sarah is heartbroken from her recent break up and in desperation begs Molly to help her in a controversial way. The novel flips between the two sisters, both navigating their careers and romantic relationships in polar opposite ways. Readers will really enjoy Molly and her budding romance with Ewan, both scientists that struggle to address their feelings. Sarah’s story is more complicated, she seems determined to get her ex-boyfriend back, despite that he cheated on her and nearly misses an opportunity to create a life with delightful Liam. While I had a hard time getting on board with some of the more far-fetched “ideas” this book presented, I did enjoy the story of the sisters and their journeys both to find their way back to each other and fill their hearts with romance.
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review!
A story about two sisters who a are really unlucky in love. From the prologue you get a great understanding of why they are so close, and the chapters alternated between Molly and Sarah.
Sarah walks in on her partner cheating on her, on new years eve, hours after discovering she is pregnant but before she has told Niall.
Molly has a massive crush on Ethan who she works closely with, but he is a workaholic and seemingly oblivious to Molly even being a woman!
They are both though incredibly talented scientists who are working on something that could make you fall in love.
As we get to know both sisters we can see just what a pickle they are both in and I enjoyed reading to find out if either would get a happy ending.
Although there is some science in the book there is also jewellery or more specific tiara making.
And it's from a tiara making workshop we meet Liam, who was easily my favourite of the men in the book!
I really enjoyed reading this story, was certainly interested in the outcomes and its well written.
I particularly loved the first two instances of Liam popping up, and also all the tandem riding!
It's definitely a book that makes you wonder that if you used some sort of love potion, would you be able to live with yourself knowing the other person may only be interested because of unnatural chemicals?
Thank you to Netgalley an d Avon for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I received The Love Solution by Ashley Croft as an ARC from NetGalley. Sarah and Molly are sisters who are very different. Molly works in a science lab and Sarah runs a craft business. Sarah discovers that her boyfriend is cheating on her and Molly is in love with her boss. Molly and her boss are researching an artificial hormone inducing potion and Sarah wants Molly to give her some to use on her ex. The Love Solutions is an enjoyable rom com with sisters who would do anything for his other. An enjoyable read.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the early copy.
I checked out this but could not connect with the writing style.
This book was a brilliant read and one that is perfect to escape for a few hours and loose yourself.
Characters that fall out of the pages of the book and make you fell apart of the story, the setting is lovely and captured well with words.
A great read. that I would highly recommend.
DNF.
I had really high hopes for this book but it rather let me down.
The writing is pretty clunky. It's a lot of "tell don't show", which does get grating after a while.
It relies rather heavily on romance novel tropes, some rather tiringly.
Also it seems badly edited - Sarah isn't drinking because shes pregnant, but in the next few pages is taking "a large gulp of her wine".
Sisters Sarah and Molly are incredibly different but will do anything to support one another. When Sarah’s life gets turned upside down, Molly tries to make everything better. However Molly’s life isn’t going terribly smoothly either. The sisters need to pul together now more than ever.
A fun light read, that covers some very serious topics.
Sarah and Molly Havers have been orphaned since their teenage years. Sarah, being the eldest, sets her dreams aside for a while in order to support younger Molly. Fast forward a bit, Sarah is now living happily with her boyfriend Niall and has even started her own jewelry business. Little did she know about what's coming and how these events will shake her world. Dr. Molly Havers, on the other hand, is a behavioral ecologist working on a hormone that can alter people's feelings and make them in love. She is doing this under the guidance of her boss, Dr. Ewan Baxter, whom she also has the hots for. Is this 'Love Bug' really the solution they've been looking for? Can love really be controlled?
I love that this book is feminist in nature. I also love that it has a good balance of romance and humor. However, I found the premise problematic. There have already been a lot of stories about creating a love potion and this one did not really stand out. I hated Sarah's character but I adored Molly and Ewan's relationship. My favorite character would have to be Liam because he is the gentleman we all need. I would recommend this to friends looking for a light but not-so-impressive read. Trigger warnings include a car accident, death, cheating, sex, pregnancy, profanity, and mental health problems.
This was unfortunately a miss for me. I thought the synopsis for The Love Solution sounded really good, I love women characters in STEM fields. But the execution didn’t work for me at all. I could not connect with either of the sisters and didn’t feel engaged enough to finish. DNF at 22%
I found this book to be a light read and it was charming, albeit a bit different than I was expecting. Sarah and Molly are sisters, Sarah runs a jewelry business out of her cottage and her sister Molly is a scientist. When Sarah's life gets turned upside down, Molly will do anything to help her sister feel better and find happiness, even if it's at risk to her own relationship and career. I don't want to give anything away, but I found myself yelling at all of the men in this book, but everything ended okay eventually.
This was a fun romantic comedy!
Though many parts of this book were funny, they often had a serious spin on it. Sarah discovered her boyfriend cheating on her, at the same time that she found out she was pregnant. Molly has a crush on her supervisor at work, but then she jeopardized her job. These serious parts made the story tense at times.
The premise of the story is quite funny. Molly and her supervisor Ewan have come up with a “love bug” which is a virus that can make two people fall in love. This seems like the perfect solution to Sarah’s problems, until it all blows up in their faces. I don’t know much about science, so I’m not sure how realistic this “bug” is, but it was fun for the story.
I really enjoyed this romance!
Thank you Avon Books UK for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Something a little different, I probably went into this one expecting one thing and actually reading another. I found some parts a little confusing and wondered where it was headed at times.
That being said there were moments of humour that made me giggle. I thought it lacked romance and the characters were not entirely likeable. I don't know.. maybe it just wasn't for me at this moment in time.
I had a hard time getting into this book. Although I can’t say why. It was a cute story with two sisters, Sarah and Molly, as the main characters. I love my sister, you think I would have identified. It was hard. The plot seemed far fetched. Things like that do not usually grate on me, but it felt off. I could not understand a woman that “with it” being that desperate. The storyline was interesting, but I think I just didn’t like the writing style.
So much for chemistry. Didn't connect with the characters, plot was too choppy and predictable, and I had big issues with the "love solution" plot line. Not the romance book for me
I didn't put up a Goodreads review and I didn't rate it because I couldn't finish. I didn't care about the characters and the story was convoluted to me and I kept thinking I could try to come back to it but I just didn't want to.
Ugh, the writing was just SO dry 😑 I couldn't get past it. Such a shame because the story sounded good and the cover is cute.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This cute and quirky story follows two orphaned sisters and their respective journeys to finding love.
Molly is a nerdy chemistry workaholic who is in love with her obtuse project leader. She’s working on an exciting, top secret project, to develop a “love bug” that looks to chemically bond two people together. Her sister Sarah is the responsible one, but when she comes home to tell her long term boyfriend she’s pregnant, only to find herself alone, she’s had it, and decides she wants to use the love bug to put her relationship and her life back together.
Molly and Sarah are both very different but both very endearing. They were a little all over the place, bumbling through life and love, trying to help each out along the way. For that matter so were the love interests which made for a lot of fun watching all the many awkward moments on their search for love.
I would definitely categorise this as chick lit more than a romance. We switch back and forth between the two, with the main plot driver being their personal growth. This is intertwined with the romance but, the relationships with themselves and each other was definitely what shined for me.
All the characters in this story were a little frustrating with their stubbornness and but I find this particular brand of it very characteristic of the chick lit style, so it didn’t bother me too much, and after all it’s usually what gets them stuck in hilarious situations.
The writing style was fine, didn’t stick out one way or another to me and I didn’t find myself wishing it was shorter or longer.
Overall a great feel good chick lit read!
