In Erica Ridley's latest in the Dukes of Christmas series Gloria and Christopher are featured as a couple who struggle with tender insecurities but find much in common to appreciate about each other. Once again the locale is the town of 'Christmas' in northern England and there is a mystical feel about the environment and characters. If not for the unnecessary graphic sex it would be a perfect Christmas Regency, a genre I look forward to every year.
Christopher has lived his life mostly in the shadow of his devilishly handsome and rakish brother. Chris wants to settle down with a wife who is his perfect match so he does not repeat the mistakes he saw his parents make. Now that his brother is engaged, Chris finds himself suddenly surrounded by single ladies. Since Chris' policy is to never spend more than a month in one place, at the suggestion of his brother's fiancee, he enlists the help of a matchmaker to speed along the process of finding a wife. Gloria, the matchmaker, is Chris' perfect opposite in every way and refuses to ever leave her home, while Chris finds happiness in travel and adventure. Despite their differences, Chris finds himself inexplicably drawn to one another, but will their attraction be enough to make up for their differences?
I found this quick Christmasy novella to be very enjoyable, although Gloria's fears were rather feebly founded. As with the previous installments in this series, you'll need to suspend your disbelief a bit and embrace the cheesiness to really enjoy them, but this one comes with references to Santa's reindeer and a TLC song if you can get behind it.
I received a complimentary ARC via NetGalley. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wonderful addition to the Dukes of Christmas series.
Both main characters were very likeable and it was cute to find out how they found their Happy Ever After.
Wish Upon a Duke was a sweet tale full of charming characters whose growth was phenomenal to read about. I could not put the book down and would definitely recommend it as a quick and easy romance.
Enjoyed the story of Christopher and Gloria. It was well written and interesting to the end. Christopher who is looking for a wife to join him on his many travels falls for Gloria a woman who does not wish to travel outside her village. Her idea of travel is to pack her trunk and read all about what is in the place she is mentally traveling to. They are opposites of each other but the attraction deepens and there us a HEA but a lot happens before this comes about. This is an enjoyable read and I would recommend it.
WISH UPON A DUKE by Erica Ridley is yet another installment in her series “The Twelve Dukes of Christmas.” Please just suspend any need for rigid realism and roll along with this funny, tongue-in-cheek romance that takes place in a town where it’s perpetually Christmas. The town is even called Christmas!
Gloria is an amateur astronomer with a wildly creative imagination and a deep attachment to her hometown. Christopher Pringle is a rule-obsessed visitor who loves travel and adventure. After a youth filled with the angst of his parents’ constant strife, he wants a wife who meets very specific criteria in order to assure he truly has found his perfect match. Although she’s never done it before, Gloria is recommended to Christopher as a matchmaker who can assist him with reaching his goal. We can then watch both of them makes discoveries — about each other and about themselves.
I couldn’t help but smile my way through the book. It was a delightful read of opposites attracting and then having to discover some way around their obvious differences. There seemed to be no way to find a HEA, but remember that Christmas is all about wishes coming true!
Wish Upon a Duke by Erica Ridley is the third book in the series 12 Dukes of Christmas. As with the two books previously the book is both funny and romantic. Once again we are in the town of Christmas (or so dubbed by the residents).
Christopher Pringle has been traveling, never staying in one place more than a month at a time. He desperately wants to find a wife to travel with him. He shouldn’t have a problem, after all his rake of his brother found a wife here in Christmas. The problem - the only person he is interested in is so closed off to him. Gloria is not open to new experiences, is horrified at the idea of travel and makes up names and stories about the stars and constellations. How can he possibly be interested in her…
Wish Upon a Duke by Erica Ridley is a fun read.
What a delightfully charming romance! Prepare to smile, chuckle and feel a little giddy reading Erica Ridley’s latest addition to the 12 DUKES OF CHRISTMAS holiday series! WISH UPON A DUKE is another quick read that trumpets fun, feel good reading from one of the most consistently entertaining historical romance authors.
He loves to travel the world, she refuses to leave the tiny hamlet of Christmas, heck, they seem to be like oil and water, not that it should matter because Gloria is only playing matchmaker for the handsome Christopher Pringle. But what happens when a fanciful young lady and a fact-driven gentleman find that opposites really do attract?
I absolutely love Erica Ridley’s style of writing historical romance. It is always rich in the details of the era without being stuffy or over-burdened with “vapor-inducing” moments! Feisty heroines, sturdy heroes and the magic of love fills each book and this one is no exception!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from WebMotion!
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
The next novel in the Dukes of Christmas follows Christopher Pringle, who was always overshadowed by his brother. Now that his brother is no longer available, all the ladies flock to him. He has certain "things" he is looking for in a woman, especially one who will travel with him. Miss Gloria Godwin is definitely not that woman. Christopher revels in order, whereas Gloria likes to break the rules. Both have a love of astronomy, enjoy travel, but Gloria has fears and does not want to leave her town. Gloria and Christopher begin to open the other to possibilities, but they both need to take a leap of faith. Love involves compromising and putting one's needs above your own. The greatest adventure is with the one you love the most.
Wish Upon a Duke (12 Dukes of Christmas, #3) by Erica Ridley.... Another great one... Thanks to Erica and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. This story is about Christopher Pringle(Nick's brother) and Gloria Goodwin(Penelope's friend). They both love the stars and travel..he does it and she only reads about it. This story has all the feels, laughter, some tears, steamy sex and a very HEA. I'm loving this series. Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Page-turner Entertaining Whimsical Great world building Romantic Witty Happily Ever After Funny Easy-to-read Steamy Wonderful characters
Christopher and Gloria. I love these two. It took a while to reach HEA, but I love how they were both willing to compromise for each other. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I was not sure about a series of books about a town dedicated to Christmas but after three books I am a believer. These stories are great and really keep the spirit of Christmas with you. Christopher and Gloria are total opposites when it comes to reading and following through with your dreams and whether it is better to be noticed or not. Theirs is a slow burn romance but when it happens it combusts. The epilogues are great!!!
Christopher and Gloria are as opposite as they come. So much so that I actually feared that it might be too difficult for them to find a way to be together. I love a hea.
This is my fair and honest review in exchange for this ARC. I do follow Erica Ridley but that is because she tells such exciting tales. I am not much for "Christmas stories" but I must admit that I have read every one of these. Where else can you get a town nicknamed Christmas, a bevy of less than average females and dashing men who sweep them out from under the mistletoe? Just delightful!
Another restful afternoon reading the newest in the Christmas series. How I wish I could visit that village which is full of joy, goodwill and lovely characters, all wrapped into a delightful story. I’m now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
