Having read many of the original Tom Clancy books I was looking forward to this one. However I was sadly disappointed, it was formulaic, and did not live up to the original authors standards. It was a passable read but if you really enjoy the originals then stick to them as this author did not capture the reader in the same way.

This novel features Jack Ryan, protagonist in Tom Clancy's books. Sadly, I had to give up though the premise was good and will appeal to fans of the Jack Ryan series.

I like Tom Clancy but this did not quite hit the same mark. Yes using Clancy characters it had great potential however the compulsive page turning was not there. A good story but the writing did not have the same pull, but if turned into a screenplay for a movie I think it would do a lot better. In the end, excitement was very limited and not throughout. As ever this is my opinion and real fans of Clancy may go for it, but only deserving three stars.

An excellent book! Had fun reading it, and kept me on my toes the whole time. Great character development and fascinating storyline.

Fab read. Could not put down. Highly recommended to all. Believable characters. Great author. Will be watching out for more titles.

Marc Cameron writes a retake in the image of Tom Clancys' Jack Ryan series. I have never been a fan of this type of book. Lots of characters and plots and very intense at times, but not as enjoyable as the real thing.

For some reason the document I was sent was missing certain pairs of letters - fi & fl.. This made the book quite difficult to read. However, being a big fan of the Tom Clancy series I decided to persevere. I am glad I did. It was a well written story and provided several hours of entertainment. I didn't rip through it in the same way I have previous books but I think that was because of the missing letters issue which slowed me down. Overall it was still a very enjoyable read, in line with other books in the series, and I would recommend it.

It's a while since I've read a Tom Clancy book and it's the first Jack Ryan book I've read.
I thought it only fair to give Tom Clancy - and Jack Ryan - another go after such a lengthy period of time.
However, I have to say I can see why I stopped reading them. There were just too many strands of stories going on for my liking simultaneously and too many characters thrown into the mix that I just couldn't get to grips with it and it felt like a bit of a slog to get to the end.
This was not helped, as other reviewers have mentioned, by the fact that repeatedly (i.e. several times-a-page) and throughout the book (at least as reproduced on my first-version Kindle) two letters were missed off the start of words. I'm not sure if this was intentional for the preview version but it didn't half make the book that much harder to read and slowed down progress immensely.
At heart there was a decent story here and from what I remember a typical Clancy scenario/plot but it was just too bogged down with unnecessary strands for me and far too many characters to track. If it was more streamlined it would be a much faster-paced paced thriller, which I think it what it was aiming to be.
I'm glad I gave Clancy another go (despite the mis-printed text and convoluted story) but I'd be looking for a streamlined thriller to return any time soon.
As ever thank you for the preview copy to review.

This was a real disappointment.
The author appears to think the more complex a story is and the more names thrown in make for a better story.
I hate to say differently but less could well have been more in this case.
Not for me.

Action thriller - a real page turner:
Tom Clancy's character Jack Ryan now occupies the White House, leaving the day to day undercover action to his son Jack Ryan junior. If you like your thrillers high octane then you'll love this topical thriller written by Marc Cameron which is faithful to the essence of the original novels written by the late Tom Clancy. "Oath of Office" is the twenty-sixth Jack Ryan instalment.
Unrest in Iran is the backdrop to the novel and our team of intrepid undercover operatives trace a line of deception which proves to be a potential threat to the very existence of Western society as we know it. Intelligently written, the novel is as engrossing as the originals and a treat to read.
With Russian, Iranian and American secret agents at work the reader is never very far from being immersed in all action skulduggery. A great read.

I have never read any of the Jack Ryan series, so the fact that this book wasn't written by Tom Clancy didn't bother me. It perhaps would have been better if I had read some of the books that preceded this one but it didn't detract from the fact that I found this to be a fast paced, enjoyable novel centred on Jack Ryan's dealings with the threat from Russian and Iran. The plot was good and so was the book.

When you read a novel in the Jack Ryan series, you know you are in for full on action from beginning to end. Oath of Office does not disappoint. Spanning Portugal, Afghanistan, Iran, Cameroon and the United States with POTUS’s son at the grunt end of the action you only envy the Airmiles he clocks up.

Whilst it’s a fun read, it’s a bit formulaic and in that way…..predictable. So, I’m knocking one star off for that.

Ideal reading for a long journey or aircraft delay where external disturbance wouldn’t mar the plot.

Rather disappointed with this book, I didn't think it was as good as previous Jack Ryan books although all the usual characters are in it.

A main Plot Line (Dissidents with Nukes) fed by various strings that jumped about a bit until they progressed and pulled together to the central story and finale. It took some following in the beginning but, as ever, POTUS and his son (Ryans senior and Junior) triumphed. A good read but didn’t grab me the way previous books of this ilk have.

Well-written and cleverly plotted novel in the Jack Ryan series of Tom Clancy books. It is full of action with believable characters and a swift pace. Ideal for lovers of spy and action novels.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

I haven't read a "Tom Clancy" book in years but inspired by the Amazon tv spin off, I thought I'd give this one a go. I was pleasantly surprised. I skim read some of the fight scenes, as I do with nearly every title of this genre. I've always had a soft spot for the Jack Ryan Snr character and will watch out for future installments from Jack Jnr. Give it a go you might be surprised.

Not my usual genre but this book had me gripped throughout. Will be looking out for more of the same!

This is my kind of book, but the ebook provided contained many, many missing letters per page. This made it very hard to read as you have to guess the missing letters to complete the word.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't continue.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

I am a huge fan of Tom Clancy and Oath of Office by Mark Cameron is a fitting addition to his Jack Ryan series. As usual the plot moves at a breakneck speed with the action spanning the globe and we catch up with familiar names such as John Clark and Ding Chavez who, after seeing their personas grow and develop throughout the other books in the series, are almost like old friends as well as the introduction of new characters who I’m sure will pop up again in future books. The chapters are broken down into sections so the reader doesn’t become overwhelmed by too much technical jargon at the one time and this also helps keep you interested. If I had one complaint about the book and it’s definitely a personal niggle rather than anything else, it would be the character of Michelle Chadwick, Jack Ryan SNP’s main protagonist at home. For some reason whenever the book came to a part involving her, I felt I was reading about a pantomime baddie and could almost hear the booing and hissing inside my head.

I failed to complete this book after a couple of tries - mainly because I thought the number of storylines going through it were too complicated to follow. I lost track of the names I needed to remember - and many were very difficult - and trying to remember which branch of the Russian State we were talking about - or the Iranian or or... just proved too difficult.
I am sure all the different storylines joined up somewhere but after i was more than a third of the way through the book, I still hadn't reached that stage.
A pity as I have liked some of the previous stories about Ryan, but maybe, this is one book too many in the franchise?
