This book kept me on the edge of my seat! I loved it! I enjoyed the relationship between Rebecca and Ash and the mystery was so well done. I really hope to see more books with Rebecca North as the protagonist!
The Dark Bones, A Dark Lure novel by Loreth Anne White: A gripping mystery that skillfully explores the fallout of buried secrets and the complexities of human relationships. Highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers with a touch of romance and a well-crafted plot that keeps readers engaged until the final revelation.
Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and author Loreth Anne White for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book.
Great suspense, takes place in an environment and location that easily puts the reader on edge. Read as a stand alone story and it was fantastic, will have to read “A Dark Lure” now!
When I started this book I wasn't aware that it was attached to an earlier book, although this would have given me more depth and understanding I do think it can be read as a stand alone story as White brings the reader up to date early on.
The pacing in the first part of the novel is perhaps a little slow however this allows time to absorb the descriptive narrative pictures White does so effortlessly, taking you into the icy wastes of rural Canada causing you to feel the bitter wind.
The Dark Bones is an atmospheric, well-constructed & multi-layered mystery from a real master of her craft; it draws you in and keeps you intrigued from the first page to the last.
I have finally got around to reading this little gem and I can honestly say it was worth the wait! This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
Overall this was a great easy read, I really enjoyed the romantic suspense and thriller side of it.
A few times I thought I had it all figured out but didn't but I liked. I would defiantly recommend.
The description - She’s come back to solve the mystery of her father’s death and confront her own dark past. - is what first caught my eye.
The Dark Bones is captivating and keeps you intrigued until the very end. Looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.
This started out really strong bit about 65% I’m giving up on this book because I just can’t seem to focus when I read it and I think I just need to move on
How can you not love book like this! Edgy, thriller, just the right amount of OMG! Loved it and highly recommend it to anyone that needs a good thill seeking read.
While a suspense, this is also a romance book and that just does not appeal to me. This is also the second book in the series. However, it also works well as a standalone. Though the background from the first book is useful. The author provides graphic details, so you need to go into the book aware of this. A story of redemption and healing relationships makes this an interesting read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
4 big stars! I loved the first book in this series and I definitely recommend reading it first. This book features new main characters but knowing the backstory would be a good idea plus book one was amazing! This was book was equally as thrilling and enjoying!
First, thank you to the publishers at Montlake Romance and Netgalley for this ARC of The Dark Bones.
I also need to apologize for this incredibly late review. This book came out May 2019, but I wasn’t able to read and review it then and have finally been able to.
White is a great writer. I can tell because she researches and makes sure her books are full of accurate information. During each police investigation, questioning, procedure, you name it, everything was spot on! I really appreciated her tidbits of information throughout the book as well, for those that may not have had such previous knowledge.
The overall story was wonderful. While at first it was difficult to place the many characters, I soon fell into an easy read jumping between Rebecca, Ash, Tori, Ricky, and, while rare, Olivia. Rebecca, or Becca, was my favorite viewpoint to read from though. The flashbacks were also interesting, and by the end of the book, I had NO idea who could have possibly done the crime(s). And let’s just say, I was shocked to discover who it ended up being.
Like I said before, this review is 2 years late, but if you haven’t read The Dark Bones, do it. It’s a thrill ride of a book. Unputdownable!
5 stars!
An exhilarating and intense plot from Loreth Anne White, keeps "The Dark Bones", interesting, dark and dangerous as Rebecca North reunites with Ash Haugen to unravel the death behind her father as they fight together to bring a killer to justice.
A definite treat for the hardcore mystery lovers!
Finally was able to read this gem and it was worth the wait! This is the follow up to "A Dark Lure' and it didn't disappoint. Overall this was a great easy read - I loved the romantic suspense and thriller side of it. I 100% thought I had the ending figured out and totally didn't which is such a nice surprise. Would read this again!
I really enjoyed this one, it kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. Very good. Great mix of romantic suspense, mystery and thrills with ever increasing physical, emotional and environmental threats. This is the second book in this series, but it can easily be read as a standalone.
Ahhh, what a tangled web. This book has layers. Mystery, crime, lies, suspense, betrayal, love, romance, new chances, and a detective that I liked. This book passed my expectations. That's so cool! This Canadian setting was a perfect fit for this tale. The past always comes back to haunt, and now the only thing haunting this story is it needs a language filter! I do hate it when a book gets messed up by so much cussing.
Even so, thanks to Net Galley for my copy of this book. This review is my own, left of my own volition.
Dark Bones starts out dark and stays dark until the very end. With a few red herrings thrown in, White does a good job of making you guess who committed the crime and why. With a personal twist about 75% in and a surprise end, this made for a good mystery.
Love love love this author.
As always she didn’t disappoint. She’s an amazing talent and always leaves me wanting more.
It wasn’t until I was halfway through the book that I realized I didn’t read the first in the series. I think I probably would have had some additional background on some of the characters had I read it, but I still enjoyed this book.
The former sheriff turns up dead one day under mysterious causes. His daughter who moved away returns to take care of things, and immediately starts investigating. This throws her into unsettled pieces of her past.
This was an entertaining read!
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
Such a great escapism! Really enjoyed this book. Have been recommending to friends since! Great characters and back stories, enjoyed this one!
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. 4.5 stars!!! Another excellent thriller from Loreth Anne White. It does follow A Dark Lure timeline wise but it is not strictly necessary to read these in order. I felt this book, while very good and had my heart pumping, was not quite as good A Dark Lure. The pace was tad slower and there was less of a sense of urgency to solve the crime. All in all a great read!
