I have not read the first book in this series but I must now do so. Secrets, betrayals, relationships, and murder. This story has it all. And romance. The author’s vivid descriptions kept me engaged all the way through. I enjoyed the characters of Becca and Ash and they were so well defined. Thanks to Montlake Romance and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The start of the book was a bit confusing with the flashbacks, but as the book progressed they worked better. The murderer was not who I suspected. I was so glad when Ash finally told Becca the truth about what had happened to him. It freed them both.

As usual, another amazing book by Loreth Ann White! This book was so hard to put down. It is a follow up story, but is pretty independent in my opinion from the original in a way that you could read this without having to read the first. I love the twists and turns in all of her writing and this book did not let down with the major story line shockers and surprises. Highly recommend everything by Loreth Ann White!

I have never read a book by this author, but after thoroughly enjoying this
suspenseful story I will definitely be looking for more!! The first paragraph pulls you in, as Becca North receives a drunken phone call from her dad while attending a high profile trial in which her cop skills are needed. He has become so paranoid, she says she will call back...which she never gets to do...
A phone call rushes her home, to a small Canadian town, where they say her Dad,a cop for years, killed himself!
Becca can not believe he would ever do that, so decides to stick around and investigate. Bringing her back in touch with Ash, her love from a young age, and all the past happenings come back to haunt them.
The characters are real, they feel like your neighbor or roomate, and the twists at every turn crank up the suspense, horror, even romance...But you never know who is behind the acts discovered, at any point while reading a new 'bad' guy emerges!
A very enjoyable read, a 5 STAR story that I thank Netgalley for introducing me to, and I give my honest thoughts in this review hoping others will grab this chilling adventure!!

This is the first book by the author that I have read, but it won't be the last! I neglected things I should have been doing to finish this in 24 hours! It was a real roller coaster of intrigue and scariness. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could, and in my ratings, that's about as good as they get (5 stars being the best of the best of all the books I've ever read). It was very suspenseful and there were several surprises, especially at the end! I really like books that I can't figure out ahead of time! Also, the end didn't just leave you hanging. It was not all tied up with a bow, but there were enough resolutions and enough possibilities to be satisfying. I was given a free copy from Net Galley in return for an honest opinion.

The Dark Bones by Loreth Anne White is a fascinating thriller of teenage angst, mystery, horrific murders, and love, finding it’s way back after 20 years.
Strong female lead character and definitely worthy of 5 stars.

This book is the second book in the Dark Lure series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the first book if you are interested in knowing the backstory on some of the characters.

Detective Rebecca North does something she vowed she would never do, return to her hometown. She returns after receiving the phone call telling her that her father is dead, that he shot himself. She can't believe that he would do that, even when she is being told that he was depressed by the person investigating it. She still can't bring herself to believe it. She starts her own investigation, which lead her to the one person she loved, Ash Haugen. He was the last person to see her father alive and was also the person her father was focusing on in his cold case. She needs Ash's help in solving her father's death, but can she trust him? He lied to her in the past and he is still keeping something from her. There is also evidence that someone was in her father's shed the night he died, a small someone. That evidence leads her to 12 year old Tori, who denies being there that night. What did she see that night that she won't tell anyone about?

I enjoyed this book. It kept you guessing and it make you keep reading to find out what all the secrets are.

Thanks to Netgalley for sending me a copy to review! I've been in a thriller mood recently so when I saw this mysterious cover and read the synopsis, I knew I had to get my hands on it!

Going into this book, I actually wasn't aware that this was a sequel, I didn't get that sense from the synopsis, which was so intriguing to me. I will admit I had some troubles getting into the story into the beginning, I couldn't connect to the characters, and that partly may be due to me not reading the first book, but I thought the story moved slow in the beginning. And the characters, they felt so dry to me. I couldn't find myself completely caring about what happened with the story because the leads were meh.

I will admit, the story did pick up in the second half of the book, and I did find myself compelled to keep reading! Overall, it was a decent story :)

In The Dark Bones, Rebecca never gives up on finding out the truth about her fathers death, with the help of her ex-boyfriend Ash. Old hurts, twists and turns, made it a good read and kept me on edge.

I absolutely love Loreth White’s mystery-suspense books, starting with The Slow Burn. I hope to see more Angie Pallorino too!!

MY REVIEW
A desperate phone call from Becca North’s drunk father fills her with a sadness that changes to horror when she receives the news he’s committed suicide. A trip home to arrange his funeral uncovers a string of inconsistencies that soon has the RCMP officer embroiled in a past she never wanted to revisit.

Ash Haugen can’t believe Rebecca- his Becca- suspects him in the growing case proving her father was murdered for the secrets he’d uncovered. Ash had a few of those himself; ones that could ruin any chance he might have of winning her trust.

As the investigation heats up, Rebecca is forced to rethink her beliefs while fighting a growing attraction to her teenage love- Ash Haugen- her chief suspect.

Loreth does it again in this spine-tingling thriller!

We get a little reminiscing with characters from the first in the series, A Dark Lure, a whole lot of broody settings, and a cast of characters that will leave you wondering in the way of classic mystery-suspense page-turners, who-done-it?

I give The Dark Bones 5+ lovely kisses- A chilling suspense!

The Dark Bones is a gripping, Mystery/Suspense novel by Loreth Anne White that is sure to keep you guessing until the very last page.

Detective Rebecca North is summoned home, to the small Canadian village where she grew up, when her father suddenly dies under questionable circumstances. Even though everyone thinks his death was a suicide, Rebecca knows there is no way her father would take his own life. She is determined to find out what is really going on in her childhood town, even though it means she will have to face her past and why she left.

White grabbed me immediately with the first few sentences of this chilling story. The first chapter is so intense and suspenseful, that I found myself having to be patient as she developed the plot and characters. I was dying to know the resolution to the first pages, but it became clear I was going to have to wait until White was ready to divulge the answers to the mystery.

I loved how White unfolded the layers of this town and its residents. She did a wonderful job developing the characters, and I found them to be relatable and authentic. Her writing is rich, and beautifully descriptive.

I did feel there where some missed opportunities for more suspense and intrigue. At times I felt the author was building a storyline toward a climax, and then found it falling flat.

The ending was absolutely all I hoped it would be. Everything came full circle, answering all the questions I had been asking, and giving me the "feel good" I desperately wanted.

Thank you NetGalley, and Montlake Romance, for my ARC of The Dark Bones. It will be published May21, 2019.

3.5 Stars.
“The Dark Bones” is the long awaited sequel to “The Dark Lure”. According to GoodReads I read “The Dark Lure” back in 2016. It was so many moons and so many books ago I couldn’t remember anything about it, and it wasn’t until 15% into the new book (where a brief recap of book 1 is stated) did i start to remember who the characters of Olivia, Cole and Tori were.
“The Dark Bones” tells the story of Detective Rebecca North who returns to her small rural hometown because of the suicide of her father. But Rebecca doesn’t believe her father would take his own life and she’s determined to prove it with the help of her old flame Ash Haugen. But in trying to find out what happened to her father, Rebecca starts digging into a cold case disappearance that has the whole town on edge and a killer rising again.
Overall I liked the book. It was a good, solid mystery read, but I didn't love it. I had a really hard time getting into the story. I found the beginning of the book quite slow until around the 60% mark, when the plot picked up and suddenly became more interesting.

Great book! Lots of suspense and the mystery is very interesting. I loved the setting in the Canadian wilderness, and all the details about the cold weather. It was very descriptive and made me feel that I was there experiencing the cold and the scenery for myself. I liked the love story between Ash and Rebecca and the cross over of characters from her first book. Although this book can stand alone, I like that all the books she writes are connected. The characters feel real, and the circumstances feel like a true life experience. You won't be able to read it fast enough:)

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for a copy of The Dark Bones by Loreth Anne White.
4* This is a mystery wrapped in a love story with well developed characters. The storyline is fast paced with many twists along the way.
Rebecca North returns home to the Canadian wilderness to find out why her father, a retired RCMP officer would have committed suicide. Yes, he lived in an isolated cabin, yes he had a drinking problem, but his death doesn’t sit well with Rebecca. As an RCMP Sgt. Rebecca has the skills to investigate, but her guilt and emotional ties may hinder her finding the truth. A cold case her father was investigating is the jumping off point for this mystery. Two teenagers who Rebecca knew disappeared twenty years ago, and her first love Ash is somehow involved more deeply than he will admit. Can Rebecca find out what secrets Ash has been keeping from her? Can past hearbreak finally be mended or will the truth destroy Rebecca and Ash?

This author was new to me but as a fan of well-written thrillers I was looking forward to finding out if I have another writer to add to my list of favourites. I am pleased to say I was not disappointed.
The plot was well thought out, with lots of twists and surprises, enough to keep me turning pages enthusiastically and staying up late into the night, unable to put it down. Unlike some authors who combine thrillers with romance, the romance aspect did not overwhelm the plot but was woven in masterfully to add to the complexity of the characters and the plot. The main protagonists were likeable and believable and by the end of the book I felt that I knew them.
If, like me, you dislike mass-produced, or factory-farmed 'literature' (using the word very loosely) you'll be pleased to know that this book keeps well out of that territory. Furthermore, there is none of the grammatically poor, slang-strewn, and vocabulary deficient writing I have often found myself struggling through to a painful end in recent years.
This book was refreshing, gripping and masterful.

Every time I finish a book by Loreth Anne White, I have to ask myself how she can come up with such great stories with such fabulous writing. I aspire to write like her some day. The writing just flows on the pages. The story lines are inventive. The characters are likable. You want to root for them. You want the romance.

This story has two different mysteries interwoven. It's incredible how one lie can determine the lives of so many people in this book. And really make you think about the decisions in your own life.

Loreth Anne White is always a go to author for me. I know I am always in for a great suspenseful read with a great lead female character.

Don't miss out on this book. It hits shelves on May 21st. *I received this ARC from Netgalley for my honest opinion*
