When Polly Met Olly by Zoe May is adorable,, funny and just the right recipe for a romance. This is definitely a fun quirky book for any fan of romance. I couldn't put this book down and found I was laughing out loud while I read. GREAT BOOK MUST READ!!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cute, quirky book that was quite a bit of fun to read. Polly is a struggling photographer forced to get a job outside her field in order to have some steady pay. She lands a job at a matchmaker. When her boss sends her on a bit of an undercover mystery shopping thing to see how his greatest competitor, Olly, runs his business she’s instantly taken by the man. From there, everything evolves.

I liked Polly even though she was a bit of a mess when we first meet her in the book. She desperately wants to make it as a photographer but seems to always end up just shy of accomplishing her goal. After landing what seems to be a job only to put money in her wallet, she grows to love working at the matchmaking and her boss, a bit of an oddball himself, really shows he has a huge heart and turns out to be an inspiration to Polly in so many ways,

Olly, like Polly, is a bit of an oddball too. With his rather unique fashion sense to his sometimes odd behavior, he’s an interesting character even if I thought he named dropped a bit too much for my liking. But there’s definitely something about him which makes you think he’s a good fit for Polly and thus you end up rooting for the two.

Even though this book had romance as an important theme and the title suggests that is the primary story, I say it’s more about Polly and her evolution rather than her romance with Olly. Would definitely put it more in the women’s fiction category over romance as a result.

I love quirky stories with odd characters and this one fit the mold. My only real criticism is in some word choice. The main character, Polly, is from England and thus uses British phrases for various things. However, the other characters are New Yorkers and would never do so. For example, an American would never use centimeters for height - never. There are several, too many to count, times when this happens. It kind of jerked me out of the story because it didn’t fit in the least. If the main character didn’t say several times this story was set in New York, I would assume it was set entirely in England as none of the American characters sounds remotely American.

All told, cute story, good characters, with just a few issues on the word choice. Four stars.

Was drawn in by the cute cover, fun design and blurb. Was a bit difficult to start with getting into but soon I was enjoying it. Wasn't too sure on the character of Polly but overall it was still an easy and enjoyable read. Would recommend if you want a few hours to while away.

Cute atmosphere, likeable characters, however the novel fell short on its execution; it felt quite gimmicky. An overall nice read, ideal for when the reader needs to relax and take his/her mind off of things.

This was an ok read but there were some weird things about it that didn’t seem right to me. For instance I get that Zoe May is trying to write about someone living in New York but there were too many British terms and references used that Americans would never use.

Aside from those there were a few other problems like Polly thinking Derek was an old creep and then crushing on a guy around his age. Guess Olly isn’t a creep because he dresses like a twenty something hipster despite nearing 45? Ok.

Also I have to wonder if Polly always dreamed of going up the Statue of Liberty why hasn’t she done that in the many years she’s lived in NYC? Makes no sense. Surely if this was her dream she would have gone straight up on day one.

Overall the concept was cute but the execution was not good. There was really not much likable about the main characters Polly or Olly.

My copy was an ARC provided by the publisher so maybe see problems will be addressed prior to publication.
