I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.
I received this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. I didn't really connect with this story and felt like the characters weren't both likable.
Perfect Partners is a very pleasant book to read, if you like a slow burn romance then this is the book for you.
Sara and Isabel are good characters and I liked both from page 1. With the added bonus of Chase
This is a sweet romance, good book to read
Would I recommend ....yes one to read while relaxing on vacation
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by Izzy and Sarah's story. I was unimpressed with izzys awkward and unprofessional demeanor in the beginning. she comes off more as a child than an adult. Sarah is initially unconvinced of her ability to handle Chase but as the story progresses Izzy does get better. I just wasn't sold on the romance. Neither character really moved me. Seemed like a lot superficial writing, we never really dived deep into each character.
I’m happy to say this is one of the best edited books I’ve read in the last 6 months (I’ve read about 300 books in that time). It seems like most lesfic is poorly edited so this was a welcome change. The story is good and I liked the pace.
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. I have read a couple of books by Cummings before and really enjoyed them, but for some reason could not get into this book. I loved Chase and the K-9 training that took place. Though I did not understand the obstacles that Sara put forth, she seemed to contradict herself at every turn. These unrealistic barriers caused the book to slow down for me and for me to look deeper at the characters and their lack of connection that seemed forced. It was an ok read, but I will probably not be rereading it anytime soon.
Sara Wright is an elite police dog trainer fully committed to her job and happy to avoid any relationships with her coworkers. But when trainee Isabel Marquez enters her life with her gorgeous looks and charm, Sara finds very hard to stick to her own set of rules. Will Sara stay away from Isabel or give love a chance?
This is a sweet romance with the intriguing background of a police K-9 division training facility. Ms. Cummings, who is a police officer herself, submerge the reader into this fascinating world. It is interesting to see how officers and dogs train in different tasks for the detection of explosives. The author develops the bond between Isabel and her dog Chase in a realistic and, at the same time, charming way. Chase steals the show with his unconditional love and work discipline. Theirs is such a strong bond that casts a shadow on Sara and Isabel's chemistry.
Regarding the romance itself, the attraction is ok but nothing off the charts. Their conflict makes sense in the scheme of things but I didn't feel enough tension as it was solved fast. There is a bit of action at the end, but it felt rushed too.
Overall, a light and sweet romance with the intriguing background of a police K-9 division training facility. 3.5 stars.

This was the first book I read by Maggie Cummings, it will not be the last. I was enamored by this story from the start. The characters were bright and full of life. This is a spectacular read.
‘Perfect Partners’ is set in the world of K9 training for those in law enforcement. Sara is an instructor who is dedicated to her job and is not looking for a relationship – especially with a cop. Izzy finds herself with the chance of doing her dream job – she just has to pass the demanding course. The story was sweet and romantic and I loved the blossoming of something tender and beautiful between the two women. Maggie Cummings has an amazing talent for writing characters I easily fall for and she brings them to life with such panache. I adored the dogs too and finding out how they were trained and paired with their human partners was fascinating. Chase was just a darling! This is a feel-good tale that left me with a smile on my face. Highly recommended.
I was given this ARC for review by Bold Strokes Books and Netgalley.
I enjoyed this read. The partnership between the cop and dog was amazing The 2 main character had good chemistry. It was sweet slow burn romance.
How can you go wrong with a book about service dogs and a law enforcement lesbian handler in training?
Answer Key: You can't.
Sara has been a K-9 handler/trainer for years. Dream job. Can't think of doing anything else. Isabel (Izzy) is an NYPD cop on assignment to get some training and paired up with a service dog.
This book had a lot of themes to sink into that I hadn't anticipated. Past relationships that you just can't let go of and how that impacts quality of life. Potentially having feelings for someone in a dangerous profession and wondering if it is worth the risk. Loss that shapes the perception of future relationships. Jealousy that occurs when the one you love is subconsciously hedging bets.
Mix all of that in with some sweet dog training and an anxious finish to find yourself with a great read.
I loved the depth. I loved the characters. And aside from the use of 'boob' and 'buffoon' as self deprecating descriptors, the dialogue was great.
I wish that we would have spent more time with Izzy as a cop. Also, everything was super predictable (although still completely enjoyable).
This is a quick and satisfying read for anyone who loves romances. Or dogs.

Perfect Partners is an absolutely adorable romance that I devoured in just over a day. The plot was refreshingly new and therefore kept me hooked from the very first page, normally with romances that split perspective I have a clear favourite right from the start but not this time. Sara and Izzy were both so wonderfully interesting, different enough that it was clear who we were with instantly but with so many similarities in their attitudes that I didn't need any time at all before I was head over heels in love with them, and rooting whole heartedly for their relationship to get through all the sticky patches (which were all realistically done and didn't once verge towards a 'just here for drama'' effect.)
Ultimately this book was a wonderful read, I loved every page and I've already planned a re-read of it very soon!
ok - the dogs steal the show in this one ;) While the characters are well done - likable and great - the dogs win hands down. lol
But seriously, it's a well done story, with a bit of action, a touch of suspense, a well rounded romance, and friendships. You've can't lose with this one.
4/5
Sara Wright has sworn to never fall for a cop, again. But this becomes impossible when Isabel Marquez is part of the new class of recruits in the Homeland Security’s Northeast Regional Training facility.
This was an easy, sweet romance. The connection between the two main characters is there from the start and their story is cute but, I guess for me, there was some "drama" missing. I was waiting for something major to happen that they had to overcome but really it was only Sara's ex (Who's story I would love to read).
The characters were good but I didn't quite get invested with any of them. Nonetheless, it was a very well written book with a great pace and a sweet romance.

Ever since I read Against All Odds, I’ve been wanting to read something solely by Maggie Cummings because I really admired that book. I’m not big on covers but a beautiful woman playing affectionately with a gorgeous Shepard, I think I would have bought this anyway based on that alone.
NYPD officer Izzy Marquez is training with her new bomb detection dog at an elite k9 and handler academy. There she meets Sara Wright, trainer extraordinaire who has a bit of a complicated backstory. There’s an immediate connection between the two but also a will she, won’t she dynamic which I wish had not gone on so long because when they did connect, that’s when the book took off. Then when the actual police work took place, the story turned up even more and it ended very nicely for me.
One final note, the real fears that you experience when your loved one is law enforcement and you watch them leave home for work everyday, is a very worthy subject. I hope the author continues to tell us more stories about it and maybe go a little deeper.

Perfect Partners is the first book I have read from Maggie Cummings, but it won't be the last. Her writing style is wonderful, allowing characters to develop over time without having you learn everything from the start. Her building of the relationship between the main characters Izzy and Sara was great, a slow build that had me wanting more and more until they finally were together.
It is a sweet story of a police officer, Izzy, who has been given an opportunity to take part in the K-9 training course that Sara is a lead instructor of. Sparks are evident from their first meeting and build as the training goes on. Sara resists her feelings because she has lost so much in her life and if she were part of a relationship with a cop, there would be the risk of losing her too. Over time, her feelings can't be stopped and the two come together and their relationship develops. I won't go into further points in the story so readers can get the full enjoyment of the story themselves.
This is an enjoyable story and one I would recommend highly.
If you are looking for a quick, fun read then this is the book for you.
Isabel Marquez arrives bright eyed and excited to become a K-9 officer. She’s determined to do her absolute best and prove that favors weren’t all that got her into this position. Sara Wright trains the officers and dogs for the real world and all the risks that come with being a K-9 officer. She doesn’t want to get involved with another cop, but it’s hard to resist Isabel especially once Chase picks her as his officer. There is no other way to explain the bond between Isabel and Chase but it was moving seeing the two get to know each other and learn to work together.
What I really enjoyed about this book with the romance. It wasn’t too spicy and it fit Sara and Isabel. Their relationship was gentle, kind and well thought out. I liked the realistic sex scenes (that felt odd admitting to) but it wasn’t like last few books where I needed to skip a few pages. The way they touched each other was intentional and done with care. I like a soft, subtle romance scene. That’s what you got with this book.
There was a little drama with Sara’s previous girlfriend, but it wasn’t too angsty. It kept the story moving and helped us learn more about Sara’s past and why she does what she does. Family was also an important aspect in this novel. While we didn’t get huge family scenes, the ones we did get were enjoyable and felt exactly how you would feel meeting your significant other’s family.
This was a cozy romance with a touch a spice.
Sara is a woman who is among the elite in training police dogs actually her whole life revolves around dogs and their training. After being burned badly she has no intention of becoming involved with anyone romantically, especially someone who is in law-enforcement. That begins to change slightly when a new recruit by the name of Isabel goes to the training camp . However Sara realizes that Isabel got to the training camp by means of special handling and not through the regular channels. This makes Sara very skeptical about Isabell and her backstory and how she managed to get into the elite dog training.
As time goes on Sara and Isabel start to develop a deep friendship. Sara knows nothing more can happen because she will not get involved with a police officer. Throughout the story Sara's ex-girlfriend Nicole continues to be a presence in her life primarily because she's with homeland security and overseeing the dog training, but is there something more that Nicole has in mind when it comes to Sara?
This story is an excellent read, there are a few unexpected twist and terns which makes the story even more interesting. What I found a really of interest was the information presented about the training of K9 dogs and the importance of a deep bond between a dog and its handler. This is a very interesting story, it is well written with excellent character development.
This is one of those books where I enjoyed the book but found myself struggling to put it into words as to what was missing. I have had to think for a day or so to reflect on what it was missing for me.
Firstly, I will start with what I did enjoy. I love, love, love dogs so really enjoyed the story line about the K-9 training which was really interesting. I did like both characters in Sara and Issy, especillay I enjoyed Issy at the start of the book. I didn't feel the full connection between the two characters. Its odd when you like them both and feel like they would be great together but when they are you just don't feel it.
I think the issue for me was that Issy acted out of character in aspects of the book later in regards to the relationship. I feel like that the drama that was in the story line drove the way she acted instead of having her drive how the drama would play out (I hope that makes sense). Don't get me wrong there were aspects that I felt she was justified but in other areas it just felt odd and out of place based on how she was initially set up.
So this was a funny one for me in that I did look forward to when I was able to pick up the book and read it again wanting to know what would happen next but just felt as the book went on I found myself liking the book less and less, but not enough to say I disliked the book.
Very enjoyable sweet romance. This is my fourth Maggie Cummings book and while I didn't love this one as much as her Bay West series (I wish we would get more of those!) this one is a very enjoyable sweet story. The pacing felt just right and all the characters were nice. I wish we would've gotten more background about the main characters, particularly Isabel but it was still a very nice read.
Highly recommended if you want sweet romance (with dogs!).
