When Amy Wilde and her boyfriend Mark are found dead handcuffed to a radiator in a block of flats Detective Inspector Kim Stone used to live she realises the similarities of when her and her brother are found in a flat a few floors down. As different events occur Kim and her team believe they are not coincidental and someone is recreating traumatic events in Kim Stone's life.
This is a book I couldn't put down. It makes you feel part of the team who tries to find out who is behind the crimes before anyone else gets hurt. A gripping read by Angela Marsons
In this latest instalment of the Kim Stone series we are given glimpses of the events in her early life that made her the woman she is today..... Someone is recreating scenes from her childhood and turning them into murders, but will Kim Stone reveal the links to herself to her team
Dead Memories is the 10th novel in the outstanding Kim Stone series and to my mind the best yet- though I've thought that every time but unbelievably Angela Marsons skill and talent for writing just goes from strength to strength, always giving the reader the crème de la crème of crime fiction for their enjoyment.
For Kim Stone her traumatic past has well and truly come back to haunt her as an unknown perpetrator is copying and reenacting shocking and deeply disturbing events from the past.
Dead Memories has it all - ingenious plot and storyline, plenty of action, red herrings ,nail biting tension and a fabulous mix of characters ranging from the downright evil and nasty to the ever protective and all out supporting and wonderful team of Stacey, Bryant and the relative new boy Penn.
Once again an absolutely fabulous read and certainly a highly recommended novel.
I can't wait to see what happens next for Kim and the team.
A definite 5stars all the way from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy for my independent and honest review.
This is the 10th book in the DI Kim Stone series and if anything they just keep getting better. I love this series and this ( probably until no.11) is the most exciting yet.
Someone is recreating the traumatic events of Kims childhood, incidents she has stored away in the recesses of her mind, too painfull to even think about.
Now someone is killing innocent people in situations that mirror Kims past. Their ultimate goal to finally kill the person they hate the most, Kim herself.
There are plenty of suspects to choose from, the trick will be uncovering the right one before its too late.
This is an action packed exciting read with a host of my favourite characters from previous books in the series together with Alison Lowe a profiler whos been called in to monitor Kims behaviour. Although we have met Alison before this time we learn much more about her.
This one had me on the edge of my seat I just couldnt put it down.
An absolutely gripping read, as always 5 stars from me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
This is the 10th book of the Detective Inspector Kim Stone series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone novel, I would recommend reading them in order for continuity of the story and to avoid any spoilers!!
I was very excited to be given the opportunity to read this book. I’ve read the series right from the beginning and have lovely every single second of them all. The last two books in the series (books 8 and 9) have undoubtedly been the best yet, so I just knew I was going to love this one before I’d even started it. Sometimes when you get to this number of a series, the books start to go a bit ‘stale’, but not with this series! The books are fresher than fresh bread and are just as enjoyable!!
This books brings you straight into the action when two teenagers are found chained to a radiator in a high rise flat, one dead and one barely alive. The scene perfectly mirrors DI Kim Stone’s own childhood experience when she lived in the same tower block thirty years before. From then on, Kim finds she is faced with finding a killer who is recreating traumatic events from her life. Who could possibly know so much about her? It’s down to Kim and her team to work out who hates Kim so much that they want to destroy her.
Kim is still my favourite character ever! She’s not an easy character to understand as she likes to keep her emotions and feelings very close to her chest, but I love the way she doesn’t take any rubbish from anyone. This book though does show us that she’s not as tough and ballsy as she makes out when she is faced with the memories of so many traumatic events from her life. I fail to understand how anyone could hate her so much to cause her such pain, but obviously as the story moves on you get to understand just who is capable of it and why!
The usual team are back to help on the investigation, with the added extra of Alison Lowe, a profiler who’s been called in monitor Kim’s behaviour. Whilst we have met Alison before, you get to know more about her in this book. I did initially think that she just wouldn’t fit into Kim’s team at all well, but I began to like Alison more and more as the book continued. Kim’s team continued to work closely with her and watch her back despite her not wanting to divulge all the details to them. I love Bryant’s relationship with his boss, and friend! He looks out for her so much that you can’t help but wonder if something will eventually happen between those two!!
The story was strong, fast paced and full of action. It had all the usual red herrings and dead ends that we have come to love from this series of books, and the author keeps you guessing all the way through as to who the killer is. The suspense comes in bucket-loads and had me furiously turning the pages just to get to the end. I could not put this book down and, just as I expected, Angela Marsons continues to stand proud at the top of my favourite authors list!
On a personal note, I was particularly pleased to see a mention for Dudley Libraries! Living in the area where this series is based, and working for the library service, I have to admit I did give a little cheer and ‘fist-pump’ the air when I saw this mention! Perhaps, the next book could have a killing based in the library and I could become Kim Stone’s best friend after helping her solve the case!! Just a suggestion Angie!! Remember, you saw it here first!!!
Highly, highly recommended!! Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book to review.
The past is coming back to Kim Stone. Horribly so.
Called out to a crime scene resembling the one where her twin died, others follow which recreate traumas from her past. Who hates her that much that they need to recreate her past??
Never dull, never predictable. Absolutely brilliant
Another good book in the Kim Stone series. This book does contain lots of spoilers though for books in the past so that might be one warning for new readers. However, I liked the story line and the way it allowed an update from characters past.
As always, a 5 star review for Angela Marsons.
Kim Stone is bad ass. She is one of my favorite detectives right now, up there with Adam Fawley and Will Trent.
Once again, Angela Marsons gives us a fantastic crime thriller, full of engaging characters and a gripping story line.
I cannot wait to see what books she will give us next!
You know you’re on to a winner with an Angela Marsons book but the latest instalment, Dead Memories, the tenth book in the DI Kim Stone series is her best book yet.
From page one I was hooked as it appears someone is recreating every traumatic incident in Kim Stone’s life. We have people chained to radiators and bodies in burnt out cars. Kim must face the truth that someone wants to hurt her badly.
The book has the usual team of Stacey, Bryan’s and Penn alongside Kim. Characters we now know well and love. It’s gritty, riveting, fast paced and a joy to read. I wish I could give it more than five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
Poor Kim Stone can never escape her childhood, no matter how hard she tries. In Dead Memories, someone is recreating the tragic events that have shaped Kim Stones life. Kim and her wonderful team must try and find out who the killer is and put a stop to all the death and destruction. This is the 10th book in the series and I never tire of each new book, every story has fresh appeal to it. The team work well together and you can feel the respect they have for each other. Lovely to see Stacey and Penn branching out more on their own and not needing to be so reliant on Kim and Bryant. I am hoping we will see more of Alison the profiler in the future. A great read with an ending I did not see coming. I highly recommend this book and wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
This is the 10th book in the DI Kim Stone series and does rely on some prior knowledge of Kim’s life including villains who really hate her. Someone is murdering people and staging the crime scenes to look like traumatic events from Kim’s past.
I’ve read all the earlier novels but I must admit I’d forgotten some of the criminals who were suspects in this new case; however this did not detract from my enjoyment and I was fun re encountering them and trying to work out if they were responsible for the murders.
This was a cleverly constructed and exciting plot that kept me guessing right to the end.
I liked the new characters, Penn and Alison and the way they fit in with the rest of Kim’s team.
I won’t reveal too much of the story as this would spoil enjoyment of the book but suffice it to say that this was a great five star read that I raced through in a few days. I am now looking forward to the next book in the series and if you haven’t read the earlier books you’ve got a real treat in store as they’re all just as good as “Dead Memories “.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.
The best yet!...
It took me a few books to get DI Kim Stone. I really wasn’t sure about her, but as her character developed I began to see past some of her behaviours and understand why she was the way she was.
This latest episode is the best yet, bringing back the old characters in a gripping instalment that kept me turning the pages till the wee hours.
So many twists and turns ensured this book was anything but predictable, keeping you guessing till the very end.
Many thanks Angela, can’t wait for book 11!
Dead Memories (Detective Kim Stone Crime Thriller Book 10) by Angela Marsons. First Angela Marson's DI Kim Stone's book for me and am definitely a new fan. Just love way the team of Stacy, Penn and Bryant work to make everything come together and the way they go about protecting their boss. The story outlined many of the early cases and caught my interest into going back and reading the earlier books. A fast paced read, lots of action, red herrings, and evil villains.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
What would you do if you were haunted by your past but were suppressing the emotions. That's exactly what happens in Desd Memories to DI Kim Stone. Her past has really come back to haunt her life as mysteriously there are murders being committed that link back to the horrific life events of one Kim Stone.
Seeing Kim as emotionally charged as this book shows will shock many people. I always thought of Kim as a hot headed lady who was only showing her anger and her ability to get through any situation.
This book shook my confidence in what she could handle. What same person could handle the case when it ties so tightly back to your own life.
I must say the story was super and had such a draw to it. I mean what idiot would want to unsettle Kim who we all know doesn't put up with anything from anyone. It's almost as if they were signing their own death warrant.
A haunted nightmare past comes back to haunt Kim Stone.
A new Kim Stone book is always a cause for joy in this household. I love her, the interaction of the team and the cases. This one is no exception. First, someone has staged a murder to directly mirror Kim’s tragic loss of her twin brother, Mikey. Additional murders mirror other traumatic events from her life. A lot of criminals have reason to hate Kim, but who hates her so much they would kill innocent people just to reenact these events?
There are gruesome scenes here, especially involving the Rubik’s cube. Kim is in serious danger of coming unraveled. This is a highly dramatic mystery and I had no idea who was behind the crimes. The team, including the profiler, Alison who is called in to help, shines. Marsons’ characters just always come across as real.
This is one of those books you just don’t want to put down. Book Ten continues to keep the streak alive. This book requires the prior knowledge gained from having read the earlier books. This is not a series to read out of order.
My Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This a complicated and elaborate plot. I have read the entire series of 10 books featuring DI Kim Stone in order. I wished I could remember more details from the earlier books to better understand what happened in the past in regards to some of the criminals which were featured.
Kim survived a horrendous childhood to become an exceptional investigator and head of a team who respect her despite her quirks and her past lack of interpersonal skills. Some unknown culprit is recreating the most traumatic events from her past; events she has mostly kept from team members. In fact, she has repressed such memories and has disassociated her mind from dwelling on them
There are so many suspects and their family members, some in prison, who are capable of hating her so much for her role in criminal investigations. This was difficult for me to keep all the suspects straight. Two teenagers are found near the place where Kim had experienced horror. They had been drugged and chained to a radiator. Kim, as a child, had been chained to a radiator next to her young brother who died before rescue came. When found, the teenaged boy was already dead and the girl imprisoned next to him later died. Kim was revolted by this crime but wanted to believe the similarity was just a coincidence.
The only peaceful and happy part of Kim’s young life was several years she spent with loving and supportive foster parents. This ended when they were killed in a flaming car crash. Soon this accident was duplicated in a similar crash in the same area, resulting in the death of an innocent middle-aged couple. When profiler Alison Lowe joins the team, Kim concludes that she is there to work on a criminal profile of suspects, but is dismayed to learn that her job is to observe Kim to see how she is handling the stress.
When Alison asks to make a list of people who could hate Kim so much to replicate these early memories, Byron explains that such a list would be much too long, and it is narrowed down to a manageable list of suspects. Alison is also working on a case where a woman was brutally assaulted, and she feels her profile resulted in the wrong man being charged. We find there may be a connection to the other crimes. Also, a body has been found encased in a metal cube at a car demolition yard. Finally, Alison is in mortal danger as the perpetrator chooses her as the victim to copy Kim’s most recent grief and trauma which occurred in Book 8.
Angela Marsons always does an excellent job in developing complex, believable characters. We see team members grow and develop as a skillful, hard-working, dependable family. Though this can be enjoyed as a twisted, complicated mystery and as a stand-alone book, it gives great pleasure to watch the team coalesce and learn more of their backgrounds.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I do love Angela Larson's books featuring DI Kim Stone. Yes, someone as damaged as Stone would be unlikely to function so amazingly when not only have the experiences of her childhood been not really dealt with; but to then have someone play those events out on others. She would surely be a basket case.
A very readable, well paced book.
This author is one of my favourite and I instantly put all other books aside when a new book comes out. This is book ten in the Kim Stone series and to fully understand the characters and their backgrounds, they should be read in order. Being such a long series already, you would assume that the stories contained in them would begin to lack the strength that the first books had. But thankfully that is not the case. The author continues to smash it with her subsequent books and I for one applaud her for her ability to bring books of such a high standard to her loyal fans.
This book has Kim facing her demons in truly horrific fashion. She finds herself tackling a case where the sense of deja vu is hard to ignore. As time goes on, and the case becomes more complex, Kim realises that someone is forcing her to face her long hidden fears once more. She quickly realises where things are going and has to relive a more recent heartbreak even though she is still dealing with the fallout from it.
It is difficult to say quite how much I loved this story without giving too much away, suffice to say these books just keep getting better and better.
Huge thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy. Bring on number eleven!
i’ve had the pleasure of reading all the kim stone series and have to say each book gets better and better. the banter between the team and their individual personalities make the books a thoroughly enjoyable read.
many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Dead Memories is Book 10 in the Detective Kim Stone crime series and as all of the other book in the series is totally engrossing and a compelling read.
This time the team of four police officers are aided by Alison Lowe, a profiler and behaviourist and they all become involved in replays of significant events in Kim’s life. As always the storyline is fascinating and engrossing.
Highly recommended.
