Wow. Wow. Wow!!! Book 10 of the Kim Stone series. The series is fantastic and each book is better than the last!
Clear your diary and get comfy as when you start you will have trouble putting this book down!
A real fast moving page turner that will keep you guessing right til the end.
5 stars isn't enough to portray just how good it is.
Love the DI Kim Stone novels, they pull me in before the end of the first chapter and dead memories was no exception
Kim Stone has put a lot of bad people behind bars, she has a lot of enemies., she also has a horrific past,so couple all these together and that sums up the plot of the book, someone is after revenge and they are using all of Kim's demon's to try and bring her down.
Having read a few of these novels the characters are really well rounded and the introduction of new characters like Penn and Alison bring different angles to existing ones, felt Stacey really got to shine in this book as she had Alison to bounce off.
Really enjoyed this book, thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to review, this is my own opinion.
Loved this latest offering by Angela Marsons. It was good to catch up again with Kim Stone and her team.
This was a rollercoaster of a tale, full of twists and turns. Enjoyed getting to know more about Kim’s memorable past.
So looking forward to the next adventures!
Let’s get this clear from the off. I’ve read every one of the previous nine books in this series and love it. Kim Stone is one of my favourite characters in the genre and one Ive loved spending time with over the last few years.
We move on to book ten here, quite a run in one series, and you do fear that at some stage you will eventually be left disappointed. Every series has a finite life and the longer it goes on the more chance the quality drops or it ends up being somewhat of a rehash from the previous books. I mean a six or seven book run in a series while keeping the quality consistently high is probably as much as can be expected or hoped from from the majority of writers.
Any series that I love, I always get that little bit more worried the longer it goes on. Sooner or later the quality either drops or it just outstays it’s welcome.
None of the above applies here. Not a single iota. This is up there with my favourite Kim Stone novels. It’s just so so good.
Miss Marsons had me in the first few pages. Straight out of the traps, the theme of the book set out from the first chapter. I smiled inwardly with glee as I metaphorically put on my comfy slippers, lined up my favourite drinks and snacks as I settled down and got lost in the world of Kim Stone and her team.
There’s no point in doing a synopsis of the story. Even discussing the opening chapter I feel would be spoiler territory. I’d advise doing as I did and not even reading the “blurb” that comes with the book to outline the story. Go in blind and enjoy the ride. You’ll get your monies worth and then some.
From the first page to last you’ll be totally drawn into to this fantastic story and world. A dark and disturbing world no doubt but fascinating and addictive nonetheless.
The story just flows beautifully. The art of storytelling is on full show here. A lean yet unrushed book, there’s no fat here at all, yet plenty of room for the characters to interact with each other and be fleshed out fully.
I’m just so happy that ten books in and we get to read this quality of a story. It’s quite a feat from the author, especially when I think she has been averaging two(or is it three?)Kim Stone novels per year!
I also read in her post novel notes that she had a completely different story in mind for the tenth book and had indeed started on it until this idea surfaced and stayed with her until she scraped the original and started on this. Well I’ve no idea where the original was going but that was one great decision by the author to restart with this story.
So as you can tell I kinda liked this one. If you are a fan of the series you are just going to love this one I feel. If you are new to the series I’d recommend starting at the beginning and be happy that you have a ten(and counting)book series of such high quality to look forward to reading.
5 stars +. What a hugely enjoyable few days I’ve had reading this. Just reminds me of how engrossing and how much fun reading can be when you are in the hands of someone who really knows what they are doing.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Angela Marsons for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of Angela Marsons “Kim Stone” series, and will literally drop everything to read her latest book, and woe betide anyone who disturbs me! Dead Memories maybe the tenth book in the series but my god what a series it’s been, it’s made me laugh, sob uncontrollably, I’m still not sure I’ve forgiven the author for that one yet! And kept me reading into the small hours. As a huge crime thriller reader I can sometimes find a long-running series has lost its lustre, they can feel repetitive and lacking the suspense I look forward too, but “hell” no Angela Marsons makes sure each book has a unique plot, that are packed to the brim with suspense, with characters whom you genuinely care about.
Someone is recreating crime scenes that relate to Kim’s disturbing past, someone wants to destroy her, with a list of suspects as long as her arm Kim faces her most complex case yet, How far will one of her enemies go to exact their revenge? And who is the person who seems to know so much about Kim’s past? Desperate for answers and determined to stay on the case which has become personal, Kim is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe who has been recruited to observe and monitor Kim’s behaviour, which goes down like a lead balloon to say the least ! but Alison has her own demons to face, which add yet another layer of intrigue to Dead Memories. Each murder scene recreates an exact replica of traumatic events in Kim’s life, forcing her to relive the tragic events of her past, buried emotions are pushed to the surface, resulting in the reader seeing a very different “Kim” to the one featured in previous books.
As the series has progressed Kim Stone has really got under my skin, I can’t help but feel protective of her, I know her backstory, her fears and the events from her past that make it difficult for her to get close to anyone. Underneath all the bravado and hot air is a vulnerable woman, one you feel could fracture into a million pieces if pushed to far. One of the things I love about this crime series is the way the author has worked her magic and created living, breathing characters, I love the camaraderie between the members of Kim’s team, the dark humour, the way they irritate the hell out of each other, it’s the small details that make them a very credible team. The relationship between Kim and her sidekick Bryant is entertaining, but Bryant is also protective of Kim which makes him a very endearing character.
I enjoy a crime thriller so much more when the crime scenes are imaginative and this is where the author comes into her own they're not what I consider to be gory, but Marsons paints a picture that’s so vivid that you can imagine yourself alongside Kim and her team, picking through the bones (no pun attended) of a crime scene.
Dead Memories has all the elements I love in a crime thriller, the thrill of the chase, the deciphering of the clues, plenty of red herring wrapped up in a taut and suspense fuelled plot. Personally Angela Marsons books writes in such a way you are guaranteed the suspense and high levels of tension you would expect from a crime thriller, but they are also emotionally charged and are as much about the characters as the crimes committed, something often lacking in books of this genre. If you haven’t read this series, I seriously recommend you start with Silent Scream, believe me when I say you won’t be “disappointed”. Would I recommend Dead Memories it’s a “hell yes” with bells on. This maybe book ten but this is one crime series that goes from strength to strength, and I’m already missing Kim Stone and her motley crew so roll on the next book in the series I’m ready and waiting
This series is one of my favourites. Each book gets better. I even stopped the book I was reading to read this one. Someone is recreating horrific events from Kim's past. Lots of suspects to choose from. There are some humorous parts which were welcome. There is genuine caring from everyone on the team. The ending is brilliant. I hope the next book is available very soon. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
AND Angela Marsons does it again!!!! I love the Kim Stone series and was delighted to see another instalment.... Kim has a lot of personal demons to face in this one, someone is targeting her, recreating the most horrific moments in her life, the death of her brother, the death of her foster parents and much more, can she get through this, who hates her enough and where are they getting all the personal information from, a lot of what is happening, the little details were never released!!!
Bryant, Stacie and Penn are worried about her, Bryant especially, he thinks she is going to push her emotions down so far that she is going to explode and probably lead to a mental breakdown. So much going on in this book, my heart goes out to Kim Stone, she had so many things happen to her in her childhood, can she possibly deal with more and those memories returning, she can only lock the box for so long!!!
These books just keep getting better and better, if that's at all possible, I know!!! I devour these books, I'm not able to put them down until I know the who, there where and the why? Marsons does a great job of sending you off in different directions and just when you think you may know who it is.... BAM.... think again, you should know better if you're a fan of this series but there is a twist.... as always which will get to you!!!
I don't like to discuss too much of the book in detail for fear of ruining it for others, but suffice to say, this is another belter of a Kim Stone book, get out and buy it... you will not regret it! I can't speak highly enough of this series! BIG MASSIVE 5*****
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was another winner from the author as she continues this intriguing series. Packed with her usual mystery and suspense. This is a book that I would recommend to all.
Thank you Netgalley for chance to read this.
I don’t even have enough words to say how much I enjoyed this book. I love the series and love Kim and the team. This book is just brilliant. I won’t even go into the story, just read it for yourself!
Not many authors can pull me in the way Angela Marsons does. I cried, was shocked, angry and confused. I had no idea who was behind this either! Now I’m off to start the series again because I just can’t get enough of Kim Stone!
Dead Memories is the 10th book in this brilliant series, still as impressive and compulsive, multilayered with a cast of memorable characters.
Someone is recreating all the traumatic and hideous events that occurred early in Kim’s life, some we already knew about but one is absolutely horrific that previously hadn’t been even alluded to so my admiration for her character continues to grow and grow.
There are many criminals on the list that would wish to harm or even murder Kim but this time it appears really personal, this killer seems to know every little thing about Kim’s previous life.
It was wonderful to reconnect with her stalwart team and new detective Penn is fitting nicely.
No spoilers, just immerse yourself in this extremely readable story, there are haunting, tragic, macabre but even some lighter humorous moments along this journey.
I hope this series never ends, yet another sure fire winner from this wonderful author, well done indeed.
My thanks to net galley and publisher Bookouture for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
All other books get pushed to the side when Angela Marsons has a new release.
This one did not disappoint. If you read the series from the beginning, fasten your seatbelt, you’re in for the ride of your life.
If you haven’t, don’t worry, I’m sure this book will compel you to go back to the beginning and start at number one. I’m very tempted to start them all over again.
I love the reoccurring characters that appear in every book, I feel like I’m part of the team.
Excellent, as always. I can’t wait for the next in the series
I don't think I could ever tire of Kim Stone and her team, each book we get to know them all a little bit better and they're a great team with individual personalities.
This book sees Kim having to face her past as the murders are directly linked to significant traumatic events from her childhood. Kim and her team fight against time before they must face the end game. A rollercoaster of a read
This is one of the best series in contemporary crime fiction. Both characters and locations are well drawn and the plots are always engrossing. DI Kim Stone has faced some terrifying situations in the course of her career but the current case is the most testing and the most personal, as a series of crimes have links to her own life. Brilliant!
Arguably the book I've been waiting for without even knowing that I was. This is the instalment that digs a bit deeper into Kim Stone's past, while at the same time also is a great starting point for anyone new to the series.
I say that as there are references to most of the main cases that have been involved in the previous nine books of the series, and it was I want to say great, but I'm not sure its the right word, that we got to meed up with some of the villains from the previous books - apart from my favourite psychopath.
We also get to meet up with Alison Lowe again, and get to know a bit more about her, and I found as I was warming to her more and more as the story progressed. I also think that after perhaps one more book I will really start liking Penn, the newest member of the team, I'm starting to get to grips with him, and can see he has useful qualities.
What I couldn't work out or even get a theory on myself was just who and why was recreating Kim's past, one traumatic incident at a time.
What I do know is that I couldn't put the book down and read the majority of it in one sitting, with little awareness of the world around me. It is completely addictive and easily my new favourite in this series, I have a feeling I've said that before, but what can I say Angela Marsons seems to out do herself each and every time.
I was completely engaged with the crimes, and just wanted to know who was causing D.I. Kim Stone to go on an unwanted trip down memory lane.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
As always another brilliant book by Angela Marsons featuring Detective Kim Stone and her team. This book was much more gritty than previous ones, as Kim is having to deal with deaths that are recreations of traumatic events in her life. Fast paced and dark it kept me gripped from the first page to the last. Utterly superb.
'Dead Memories' is the 10th book in the DI Kim Stone series by author Angela Marsons, I can't believe she's already written so many. My reviews for Angela Marsons books are getting a bit repetitive but I suppose that's what you should expect when the author writes to such a consistently high level. Yet again, gripping plot line, strong characters and a well paced story that builds to a crescendo. If you haven't already tried this author do yourself a favour and start reading now.
Two teenagers are found chained to a radiator on the fourth floor of Chaucer House. The boy is dead but the girl clings to life. For DI Kim Stone the scene is to familiar and personal and this crime mirrors her own frightening experiences with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago. Later the bodies of a middle-aged couple are found in a burnt out car and Kim can’t ignore the similarity of the deaths to her own parents.
The killer is recreating traumatic events from Kim's past and she has to face that someone is out to hurt her. Profiler Alison Lowe is introduced on to the case to work with Kim in order to monitor Kim's behaviour and enable her to remain on the case herself. But the threat is there for Kim, a killer who is determined to make her suffer and ultimately destroy her.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for supplying me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
once again she delivers a fast paced action packed nail.biting roller coaster ride of a book . Even though this is book 10 nothing is lost , this is one series that just gets better with each book
BOOK BLURB
She ruined lives. Now they are going to destroy hers.

Faced with a killer who know all the intimate details of her life Kim is faced with the brutal truth someone wants to hurt her in the worst possible way.
BOOK REVIEW
Reading this instalment of Kim's life is like catching up with an old friend. Having not read the books in series order does not affect the relationship I have with Kim. Each book gives you some insight into her past. So just like catching up with a friend you get more information, just sometimes its might be more focused on one particular aspect of that life and a little bit out of synch with current affairs.
Angela gives to us yet another riveting, gritty, chilling insight into Kim's world. Kim's character while it comes across as hard and unfeeling is deep , deep , deep down just a fragile little girl and the author lets this shine through more in this book. Yes we know someone is making her relive her early years and that is the main focus of the plotline but the other books allowed you glimpses of this fragility too. It's like Kim is now in this book at the best time in her life to deal with her past and Angela knows this. This gives you a great sense of understanding between writer and their creation.
While the plot is tense and tight you are not allowed to forget Kim's softer side as one scene in the book moved me to tears. It's a great writer who can amongst all the dark and tense action in the plot give you such a tender moment that gives you tears yet also hope. Hope that Kim will come out the other side yes with slightly more damage but still the Kim we know and love.
Wow so now we know lots more about who Kim really is and why she is the way she is lets hope we get chance to meet her on many more adventures in the future.

This is book ten of the Detective Kim Stone series and they just keep getting better. This cannot be read as a stand-alone as you need the history of Kim Stone and her team.
Someone is killing people to mirror the horror of Kim’s childhood. I loved getting further into Kim’s psyche and learning more about her which only makes you like the character more. Bring on book eleven!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC.
#NetGalley #DeadMemories
This is another series that merits reading from the start, in order. Especially with this book, the 10th in series, as it heavily features on Kim's past, some of which has already been disclosed in previous outings. Yes, there's enough included to play catch-up to a certain extent but, to get the very best from the complex character that is Kim Stone, you'd be better off starting from book one. To be honest, they are all cracking reads so - why wouldn't you?!
So, Kim is called to the scene of a crime. On arrival, Bryant tries to stop her entering but she pushes him away, What she is faced with shocks her to her very core. Two teenagers are chained to a radiator, the boy dead, the girl barely alive. She flashes back to her own childhood. Same tower block, radiator, dead brother. A connection is cemented when certain other evidence is found. Woody wants her to sit this one out, for obvious reasons, especially when she reveals that she will not be explaining said connection to Stacy and Penn. But they compromise and, old adversary, Alison is called in to observe Kim as she investigates. The stakes are raised when other incidents from her past are reenacted and it becomes obvious that someone is out for revenge. But who, and why, and more importantly, can they stop them before even worse happens?
I blooming love this series. I love Kim, her vulnerability and tenacity, I love the interaction and banter between the characters. I love the juicy stories they act out, the horrible murders they try and solve, and above all, the humour that is interspersed throughout, restoring the balance and keeping the book from getting too dark. In fact, I'd be hard pushed to say anything I didn't like about the series, apart from the length of time I have to wait between instalments!
In this book we have an added extra as we revisit some of the stars of Kim's previous triumphs as she and her team try to work out who has it in for her. All of whom have reasons to hate her for what she did, but who has enough hatred and enough smarts to carry all this out? After all, her childhood, although an open book to some, is still a mystery to others. There are still things that have never been disclosed.
All in all, another cracking addition to an already brilliant and well established series. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
