Book number 10 in the Kim Stone series is another thrilling and addictive read! Angela Marsons has created a story that will keep the most avid crime readers, guessing to the very end.
Kim Stone is faced with her most challenging case to date. She is forced to face the demons of her past in order to help catch the killer. Dead Memories is a real treat for dedicated fans of Kim Stone, as we meet many characters from previous stories.
I read this book in one day and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and know that Kim Stone lovers are in for a real treat.
Thanks to netgalley for this Arc.
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
Someone is re-creating the horrible traumatic events from Kim Stone's past. With her history of dealing with some of the most hardened and sick criminals there is a whole host of possible suspects.
No 10 in the series, most series start to get stale and repetitive after a few books. This series just gets better. Personally I think there are several reasons for this. The authors research and attention to detail is second to none. The development of the characters continues to grow in each book and their inter personal relationships are believable and honest. Lastly Kim, we have all grown with her, this book shows a vulnerable and emotional side that explains her abrasive nature and cold detachment.
Another excellent book from Angie Marsons
Angela Marsons has done it again. A thrilling read that I devoured in one go. Great storyline that was very personal for DI Kim Stone. Can’t wait for the next one
This is an excellent story which follows on from all the previous books and places Detective Kim Stone's team into the middle of her own psychological nightmare. For the reader at least there are few secrets about Kim's past, for her colleagues however, it is a different matter.
The first crime scene could, at a stretch, be coincidental until a clue never made public years earlier comes to light and Kim realises this is anything but a normal case. Add to this the fact that profiler Alison Lowe has been seconded to her team and Kim is fighting her past, present and personality at the same time.
The last book was, I felt, a slightly less intense offering, this however is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and behaviour not only from the detectives but also those who come onto their radar as they search for the culprit. The way they work through the clues and characters involved in this mystery is so well written; nothing is forced or contrived and the intensity of the situation is always a concern which is addressed realistically. I had no idea who was responsible and the ending was a very satisfying surprise.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed the previous books in this series or wants a first class crime novel to add to their library.
Brilliant idea for the plot on this book. Inspired! Love reading about how the new team player is now bonding well with the regulars. Alison makes a return to kept an eye on Kim although she has her own case to work. Great to see how Kim deals with the replica cases to her own childhood.
I must admit, I was dreading the one case Kim is killed off to end the series but luckily enough she wasn't. Looking forward to book number 11.
It amazes me that we are now onto Book ten. Another addictive read. I’m familiar with the characters now and as ever an excellent read. Most impressive was the articulate explanation by Keats on the effects of heroin, both how it feels when you take the drug and the nature of addiction. I learnt a lot through that and had always wondered. I don’t understand why people got drunk more than once, but I now know it’s a different kind of addiction from getting hooked on Heroin. Kim and her team are dealing with a tenuous link between a current murder and an incident in Kim’s past. Kim firmly believes there is no such thing as coincidence. Despite all odds, she pursues the possibility of a link. It’s gruesome – curl-your-toes stuff and plenty of humour to soften the blow. I liked the short chapters and the use of the third person. I always think it gives more depth to a book in that thoughts are examined from different people, angles and perspectives. It vividly illuminated how detectives must end up dealing with myriads of horrific, unforgettable scenes and you are left wondering how they harden themselves sufficiently to cope. Or do they cope? Where’s the stopping point I wonder. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
Kim is back and now in double figures! Every time a new book comes out I think this will be the one that shows the series has run its course but so far I've never been disappointed. This series has some serious legs, which I think comes from the author seeming to have a genuine affection for her characters and her fans. And that affection is reciprocated in a massive way, let's be honest we all love Angie!
For further honesty, I would say this isn't my favourite Kim Stone book but it's like saying it wasn't my favourite Ferrero Rocher! Or doughnut! Or wine! In other words, they are always enjoyable, and you're always left wanting more. Undoubtedly a five-star triumph (as always)!
Thank you Bookouture, Net Galley and Angela Marsons and Book Ten in the DI Kim Stone series.
This is a series that I have long been a fan of and for me the Kim Stone books just keep getting better If you haven’t discovered Angela Marsons Detective Kim Stone series which began with Silent Scream then you really don’t know what you’re missing out on!
She ruined their lives. Now they’re going to destroy hers.
‘Someone is recreating every traumatic point in your life. They are doing this to make you suffer, to make you hurt and the only possible end game can be death. Your death.’
On the fourth floor of Chaucer House, two teenagers are found chained to a radiator. The boy is dead but the girl is alive. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago.
When the bodies of a middle-aged couple are discovered in a burnt-out car, Kim can’t ignore the chilling similarity to the death of Erica and Keith – the only loving parents Kim had ever known.
Faced with a killer who is recreating traumatic events from her past, Kim must face the brutal truth that someone wants to hurt her in the worst way possible. Desperate to stay on the case, she is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe who has been called in to observe and monitor Kim’s behaviour.
Kim has spent years catching dangerous criminals and protecting the innocent. But with a killer firmly fixed on destroying Kim, can she solve this complex case and save her own life or will she become the final victim?
One thing is for sure to me, Angela Marsons is bringing to life the great characters of DI Kim Stone and Bryant, a character that works so perfectly alongside Kim Stone and Stacey, although in honesty still taking me a while to get used to Penn, I miss Dawson so much.
A lot of great humour is added between the great relationship between Kim and Bryant, all I can see is "Fleas", the funniest part of the story.
A clear four star for me, why not a five, just a little slow in the middle, but a great fast paced last few chapters.
Once again Angela Marsons does what you think would be impossible - writes a book even better than the previous DI Kim Stone book, Fatal Promise.
Once again all the characters we’ve come to love , or hate, are here. The storyline is well written and bounces along at breakneck speed with more twists and turns than a rubiks cube (see what I did there).
A highly recommended read, just make sure you’re prepared to put your life on hold as once you start you really don’t want to stop!
There are too many coincidences for Kim not to be alarmed and to connect the staged murders to her own past. She has made many enemies in her life but who hates her enough to do this? There's lots going on in this book as you would expect from Angela Marsons, in my opinion, they just get better and better and worthy of a big fat 5*
Angela Marsons never disappoints... I mean never! I can't believe that this is already book 10 and I am now already eagerly awaiting book 11. The Kim Stone series is absolutely brilliant and my favourite of all the British police procedural series that I have read. I never have any hesitation in recommending these books to anybody. I am happy to report that book 10 is no different and I was hooked from page one. This book was devoured in 2 sessions... not because I started it late last night and couldn't keep my eyes open to keep going as much as I wanted to.
This time the case is deeply personal for Kim. Somebody is out for some serious revenge against her, recreating all of the traumatic events of her life. There is a very long list of people that this could be as Kim very rarely makes friends. The first of these gruesome murders is finding two teenagers chained to the radiator in an apartment block... just like Kim and her brother were many years ago. And it escalates from there.
Profiler Alison Lowe is brought in to help the team much to Kim's disgust. The team are still rebuilding after losing a member. The newest member Penn is still finding his feet but is fitting in nicely. Kim has always been a private person especially when it comes to her past but this case forces her to open up to the rest of her team in order to stop this killer before more bodies are found.
In case you couldn't tell.. I love this series!! Absolutely 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way. If you haven't started this series what are you waiting for?! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
This author has done it again! She is definitely the queen of crime fiction, the best crime writer out there today. One of the greats! Each book is better, more thrilling than the last. This one, like all the others in the series, is unputdownable! I loved how we find more about Kim - so poignant and emotional. I also just loved the interaction between Alison and Stacey. Every page, every word is perfect. Each book in this series is more amazing than the one before although while reading those, I was convinced they were the best crime novels I had ever read. This author keeps improving on excellence and this book is an absolute masterpiece. If you haven't read this author, what are you waiting for?
Angela Marsons just gets better and better if that’s possible. So, Kim Stone is back and her vulnerabilities that she keeps so deeply hidden are being tested again. Lots of old faces returning. Very cleverly put together.
Wow brilliant book yet again from Angela Marsons
Loved it from cover to cover, and never guessed who it was so a good surprise at the end. Loved how the book brought Kim Stones life together we got to hear all about the things that happened in her childhood together in one book to put it all in place. Very detailed descriptions of incidents....Loved how you've get your main story but other crimes are solved at the same time, making it more true to life to. Really enjoyed the excitement created by the characters to keep on reading at all times.
What a brilliant book , Kim Stone is taken back in time with the crimes that are being committed . She has to catch a killer and deal with her demons at the same time . Had me hooked from the start.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Dead Memories, the tenth novel in the DI Kim Stone series set in the Midlands.
When two teenagers are found in a flat in the Chaucer Tower, the boy dead, the girl barely alive and chained to a radiator, everyone notices the similarity to Kim's childhood trauma. As more deaths mimicking events from Kim's past occur it becomes clear that someone wants her to suffer? But who? The list is extensive.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Memories which is another fine addition to the series. It is the best in the series so far but I think that about each new addition. I love the premise of getting revenge by making Kim relive her past. It is clever and very cruel. Ms Marsons handles it all with cool aplomb, whether it's Kim's efforts to deal with the situation or the inventiveness of the murder scenarios. There is never a dull moment in a fast paced read. The perpetrator is well concealed in a wide field of suspects so not only did it hold my attention throughout it had me turning the pages feverishly to see what cruelty was coming next.
I wasn't too keen in the early novels on Kim Stone, finding her unnecessarily rude and surly but time has mellowed both of us. Yes, she is still exacting and abrupt and has no time for the bad guys but she has cut out much of the anger and is really only rude to those who deserve it. I now see her as a modern day hero, caring, dedicated and impatient and impulsive for the right reasons.
Dead Memories is a great read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Tough, gritty police procedural. The characters are incredibly believable and realistic. The story moved along at great pace to a surprising conclusion. Great to catch up with Him and her team..
As ever Kim Stone packs her no nonsense punch, with amusing quirks and humour usually so lacking in thriller type books. A dry wit makes the tough grittiness easier to swallow. It isn’t all relentless gore like some books of this type, it’s insterspersed with humour that makes you realise is sadly lacking elsewhere!
Marsons always leaves me wanting more, excellent book!
Omg, just when you think Angela Marsons cant beat her last title......she does!!!
So well written. making Kim Stone revisit her awful and disturbing past, trying to break her emotionally, physically and failing.
It's so great to have such a strong female character as a main character, even with her demons.
This 10th title made me want to re read the entire series.
Roll in the 11th !!!
This is an author whose book I had picked up at the library on the cover alone and really enjoyed the story, luckily there were more to read and now with the 10th book I have read them all.
I didn’t find this book as engaging as the others but a good read non the less.
Kim Stone is the lead character in all the stories, a detective with a harrowing past. In Dead Memories someone is recreating her past and the bodies are stacking up. As Kim’s team scramble to find out the culprit they first must weed out those who hate Kim the most. #netgalley # deadmemories
