Oftentimes one has to hit rock bottom before life gets better. Cash had had it all and gave up. Got into trouble and ended up at a hospital/mission in Mexico. His skills as an emergency room doctor would come in handy. The director of the clinic didn't care all that much for Cash because she saw that there was so much he could do and he wasn't doing it. Eventually the tide turned, She admitted she loved him and he realized he wasn't saved by her, but had to do it himself. A happy ending all the way around.
This story was written very well in terms of the imagery it created with the wonderful crafting of words, some of which I'd never heard of and had to look up!
The main character Cash, has travelled a wicked road littered with errors but is wanting to redeem himself.
He does this through helping and healing others whilst experiencing a journey of self discovery, which leads him to loving God and a life of fulfilment through putting his skills to good use.
It wasn't one of my normal reads and whilst it didn't offend me, it didn't grip me either.
I am conflicted by this book. I liked it and was completely annoyed with it at the same time. The book waxes poetic and tries hard to be contemplative; however at times Cash just comes of whiny. The writing pulls you in and makes you care about the characters and their lives. The problem is it just tries to hard to be edgy and relevant. I wanted to care more than I do.
I couldn't finish. I tried more than once and even though the author is an excellent writer, I found myself annoyed by the whole scenario.
I do believe many will enjoy this book, I am not one of them.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
