This was an OK read for me. It wasn't quite suspenseful as I'd hoped it would be but it was OK for a quick read.

Ooh this was dark and intense and intriguing. The sort of book that hooks you right at the start and keeps you turning the pages, because you have to know what's going on and how it's all going to end. I zipped through this one. Really well written, the writing flows, with believable characters that I cared about and nasty ones that I didn't!!! Loved it. Another cracking read from Vikki - keep them coming!

The first of Vikki Patis books I’ve read and I two t be the last. This is an easy, compulsive read. That is suspenseful and grips you from the first chapter.

Wow! If you’re looking for suspense and a great binge read, look no further! This was everything I was hoping for in my next read!

Isla, wife to a real psychopath, lives the nightmare most of us can’t even imagine being in, but honestly too many do. She’s slowly friended by Beth whom she is sketchy of, but soon finds as her only life line. Why is Beth so eager to befriend Isla though?

I highly recommend this book! I could not put it down and was so surprised by the ending.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Girl Across the Street by Vikki Patis was a quick, easy and a great read for a holiday. Vikki Patis is an author I always enjoy reading her books and they always have a great storyline with great characters within.

Two women; Beth and Isla who live close to each other, accidentally come to together one evening. when a jogger is hit by a car. Beth is a waitress and works hard to make ends meet. She lives with her boyfriend Kylie who just unemployed and plays video games etc throughout the day and night.
Isla is married to Jake, they live in a house you can only dream about living in. But not everything seems rosey when the door closes. A friendship forms between Beth and Isla and they become close.

But, is this friendship between them by accident?

This book was gritting and was a great page turner from the first page. I loved this book and finding out more about Beth, Kyle, Isla and Jake and who they all had a great part to play in this brilliant book.

Highly Recommend Vikki's Book.

5 star read.

Thank you to Bookouture, and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Absolutely phenomenal, Superb debut psychology thriller. I was having a little trouble sleeping last night, so I thought I would read a couple of chapters. I was totally addicted within the first chapter, I knew then I was in for a night without sleep. There was no way could I put this book down. I genuinely couldn’t believe this was a debut novel at all. It’s a real twister, rollercoaster of a book. It’s extremely well written with a believable storyline. When I am really into a book it’s like I am actually living it. That’s how I felt about this one. In places it’s sad to read how jake treats his wife, my heartbeat kept racing and willing Beth to get her away from him. OMG THIS is to such a high standard that the bars now been set so highly now, for for Viki Patis for her next book. I will be watching and waiting for her next book with great anticipation and it can not come quick enough. This young lady writes like a old pro, As if she’s been writing for years.i am in awe of her already. I am still trying to pick my jaw up of the floor. To get my head around it’s a debut novel. Bloody brilliantly awesome

In the middle of the night, Isla, a rich insomniac, is walking the streets late at night and witnesses a hit and run accident, leaving the victim deceased. At the scene, she meets a woman, that seemingly, came out of nowhere, named Beth. Beth and Isla are opposites. Beth is from "the wrong side of the tracks", while it appears as though Isla had a decent upbringing and was born into money. Beth and Isla form a friendship that Isla thinks was brought on by their both witnessing the accident that night. What she doesn't know is there is more to the story than Beth or Isla's husband is letting on.
Read the book to find out what happens. Although the ending was a slight disappointment.

I loved The Diary by Vikki Patis so was delighted when I saw another book by her. I found the book to be slow moving, the intro was promising but then 80% of the book was about Isla and Beth and the friendship/alliance they formed against Jake. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad thing and it was certainly an eye opener as to the depths of domestic abuse and what some women are willing to go through because (a) they think its normal or (b) they have no escape, its both mental and physical in this instance, Jake was an absolutely Grade A "A**hole" and his mother, don't even get me started on her, she needs a bloody good shake up which I'd happily offer my services!!!

However, to everyone outside looking in, they are the perfect couple, Isla has a fabulous house, car, husband, how could she not be happy? Beth soon discovered!!!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

The ending of the book wasn't a surprise, I found it quite predictable in that sense. Overall a quick easy read, just not exactly what I expected!

No, it is not a good idea. No spoilers but suffice it to say that Isla and Beth, well, maybe you should not share everything with your new BFF. From the outside it looks like Isla has everything- house, husband, and so. on- and that Beth has nothing-council flat, lazy boyfriend. This is told from their alternating points of view so you can decide how you feel about both of them. Hah! It's a good read, with all the elements of a page turner. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I was eating this book four stars all the way up until the end. The ending caused me to drop the ratio g to three stars.

I'm speechless from this book! Ms. Patis gave such a raw portrayal of domestic violence. It's eye-opening and frightening at the same time. A story of friendship, betrayal, heart-ache, violence.... You don't think such things happen behind gilded walls.

Isla is a very unhappy housewife. She's hiding a horrible secret about her marriage. She's isolated with no friends, only her husband Jake and his parents as people that she can have a relationship with.

Then she meets Beth at the scene of a hit-and-run. Isla slowly starts to believe that maybe she can have a friend, maybe she can finally open up to someone, share laughs with someone.

Beth is very different to Isla. She lives is a crummy council-flat with a good-for-nothing boyfriend. She works long hours at a restaurant where she is groped by Jake one day.

She never thought that she'd be friends with someone like Isla, that she would like Isla, she never planned it that way but her plans changed along the way.

As the women band together they set out to free themselves from impossible situations, drawing strength from their friendship.

This book was a thrill-ride and a brilliant one at that.

I want to share with anyone that will listen what a fantastic psychological thriller Ms. Patis has managed to turn out. This book was off the charts good! I was literally hooked from the very first chapter and flew through this in a day. I simply could not stand to put it down! I am now nursing a book hangover.

Right from the first page we are on an adrenaline filled ride with this one. It opens with a hit and run resulting in a male jogger lying in the street. Both Isla and Beth happened to be in the area and witness it. They rush to perform CPR but they are unable to save him. There is no one else to help the two girls because it is 3am and the street is deserted.

As an emergency room nurse I can tell you there is no other bonding experience like witnessing the loss of a life. When you are desperately trying to save someone's life and no matter how hard you try it can not be done. The feeling is devastating and you will always remember who was there with you. That is why it did not surprise me that Isla and Beth had bonded over this traumatic experience. They sought each other out after the incident and soon became good friends.

What did come as a surprise were the secrets, deceptions and lies among most of the people in the book. I began to question why were these two random people outside on the same street at 3am? These girls seemed to have nothing in common, they came from two different worlds. As we dig into their secrets they might have more in common than one would think. My mind was spinning from all the possibilities! Hence the reason I could not put this down until I had some answers!

Tense, fast paced, enthralling psychological thriller. Just when I thought we had unraveled all the secrets, another shocking twist comes along. You just want until you read the ending! The author knocked it out of the park with this one. Plan on pulling an all nighter with this one! Well worth the book hangover!

The Girl Across the Street gets a definite thumbs up from me. I started reading it one lunch time at work and by that evening was half way through. It follows the story of Isla, married, pretty with a beautiful house but she has a secret. Then there’s Beth. The complete opposite to Isla but a tragic accident brings them together.

This book is dark, compelling and an absolute thriller of a read. I can highly recommend it and found I couldn’t put it down.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

Really good book. Engaging, kept me guessing. I was not sure who to trust, since everyone seemed to be hiding something. Was a little disappointed at the end though, because I’m one of those folks that likes everything tied up and finished.

From the outside, it looks like Isla has the perfect life. She has a handsome husband, a beautiful house, and enough to money to have "the good life."

Beth is a waitress who barely makes ends meet. She has a crappy boyfriend and a flat that she is ashamed of.

Isla and Beth have one thing in common. They both tried to help a man who was killed during a hit and run. Now Beth is trying to get close to Isla. But why?

I really liked this book because, once again, we are reminded that just because it looks like someone has the perfect life online doesn't mean that they really do. The author did a really good job of differentiating the characters and showing us that even though their lives are drastically different, they actually have a lot in common. I also loved that I couldn't guess the ending. In my opinion, that is one of the hallmarks of a good thriller. I thought the ending was fantastic, and I actually really wanted to see what happened after the ending to Beth and Isla. Highly recommend!

I received this book "The Girl Across The Street" from NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own. I did like the book except for the ending. I just thought the ending could have been more... I just didn't like how it ended. Took a bit of time to get into the storyline. Overall a quick read and it was good.

This book was just ok. The characters were well done and the writing style was fairly solid. I found the story a little slow and predictable and it took till the very end for it to actually get suspenseful.

This is the first book I have read by Vikki Patis. I really liked her writing style going back and forth between the 2 characters of Beth and Isla. An unfortunately accident brings these ladies together at the scene of a hit and run leaving a jogger dead. Beth quickly instills herself into Isla's life but are her actions those of a lonely woman trying to find a friend or is there something sinister. As we get to know them both we learn they live very different lives but aren't all that much different from each other. Isla on the surface has the perfect life, or does she? What happens as these two become best friends, and why does Isla's husband have an issue with her having friends, especially Beth? These are all questions that are answered during this roller coaster up and down thriller of a book. While I really enjoyed the ending, I was longing for more as I became attached to Beth and Isla.

Beth and Isla form an unlikely friendship when they both witness an accident. They're of a similar age but from very different backgrounds and find they have several things in common. I read this really quickly and found it gripped me from the start. It's a bit twisty but nothing completely ridiculous or unbelievable and I did find that I really enjoyed it.

Isla witnessed a hit and run where a young man has died. At the accident scene she was helped by Beth a local waitress who lives down the road. They feel tied to each other and a slow friendship starts. Both women are in the same domestic situations but their lives are so vastly different. Things are slowly getting worse for both of them and they need each other more than ever.

I really enjoyed this book but the link between Jake and Beth bugged me a little, like it could have been a lot darker than it actually is perhaps? Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
