One of my favourite books so far this year. I had so much empathy for the main character, Rose. I found myself rooting for her all the way through the book, the story was gripping and I couldn’t wait to read it and picked it up at every opportunity. Highly recommended.

Jack Jordan is a new author to me and I was very excited to read Night by Night as the plot looked fantastic. This book was definitely a slow burner for me as it took me quite a while to get engrossed in the story. I did at one point contemplate abandoning it but I’m glad I kept reading because the plot and suspense increased as my pages turned.

I felt so much emotion for Rose ( the main character), the trials that life had thrown her way was unimaginable. Her grief and the impact it had on all those around her was beautifully explored. The prejudices which occurred in the not too distance past was also explored and made me glad that society has come some way with their judgements.

The ending was fantastic full of twisted suspense. Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for my chance to read this thought provoking book.

If there’s one thing I can be sure of it’s that Jack Jordan never fails to amaze me, each book he’s written has been very different in tone, content and plot. But still Night By Night the latest offering from the author took even me by surprise, I wasn’t expecting to have my heart shattered, or to find myself sobbing uncontrollably, at this point I realised I had only read the first four chapters of the novel! Such a brilliant and haunting start to what I consider to be Jack Jordan’s best book yet.

Jack Jordan has a knack for creating characters who are lost souls, they get under your skin, you can’t but help but feel their emotions, their turmoil, but ultimately you want them to emerge in one piece from their living hell. Rose is one such character, her grief is palatable from the outset, you can imagine her state of mind caused through years of constant insomnia, and it’s these feelings that connect you to her character. When we first meet Rose she’s a woman who has reached rock bottom, she’s defined by one tragic event that has changed her life forever. It’s only when she finds the journal of Finn that a new Rose emerges, one that’s resourceful, stubborn and determined to get to the bottom of Finn’s mysterious disappearance.

Night By Night is one of those psychological thrillers where the plot isn’t predictable, at one point I was feeling very smug with myself for working it all out, but I was wrong thankfully, as Jack Jordan’s plot was by far the more original. This is a modern day tale and the author pulls no punches creating scenes that are haunting, harrowing and emotionally charged, it’s the constant shifting of scenes that make this novel such an addictive read. The chapters told from the point of view of Finn Matthews add a sense of malevolence, that simmers away until the novel reaches its heart stopping conclusion. Without a shadow of a doubt Night By Night is a dark, intense, unpredictable thriller, but it’s also a novel that packs an emotional punch. In case you haven’t guessed I loved this book, and it’s one I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a well drawn, dark and haunting thriller.

I have read all this author's previous books and apart from the last one, which didn't quite hit the heady heights of the others for me, have thoroughly enjoyed them. This book was a return to his best though and I whizzed through it in only a couple of sittings. Reading it when I really had other things I needed to do at the time but hey, I'll sacrifice anything if a book is that good!
Rose has been rejected by her family after a tragedy struck them. A tragedy that she is still trying to come to terms with, especially with regard to her insomnia. One night she bumps into a man and, once she composes herself, notices that he left behind his journal. So she has a bit of a read, and what she finds therein is shocking. It's written by Finn Matthews who is convinced that someone is stalking him and is in fear of his life. But who is/was Finn. Why did he feel this way and where is he now? With nothing else in her life, and having had her pleas for the Police to investigate rejected, Rose takes it upon herself to find the truth. She realises quite soon however that there are people who don't want her to find that truth, to the point of her fearing for her own life... But she has nothing to lose, has she?
Oh how I felt for Rose. Not just for the tragedy that happened to her and her family, but also for her less recent past. I felt for her every step of her journey through this book. Boy does this author know how to write wounded characters. There are quite a few in this book, apart from Rose, and each one has been perfectly crafted. He also writes some good baddies too I hasten to add. Oh, and the ones that appear bad and aren't and vv. He's also a bit nifty with plotting and here he spins a great tale, one that I would love to expand on, to wax lyrical about its inter-connectedness and brilliance, but... you know... spoilers! I will just say that once Rose gets going she really does get much more than she bargained for! But she's tenacious and obsessive and, as already mentioned, has nothing to lose having pretty much lost the life she had.
Yes there were a couple of things that I had to suspend belief about, some things were a bit ott and there were a few, more straightforward paths that Rose could have taken, but hey, this is fiction not fact and it wouldn't have been the cracking, thrilling ride it turned out to be had these alternate things happened. Taken with the rest of what I read, I was happy to take the hit on them!
All in all, a return to glory for this author with me and I am so looking forward to seeing what he serves up next time.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Jack Jordan has done it again - another masterpiece! I have to admit I was a bit nervous to read this one because I loved Before Her Eyes so much, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Not only is this an outstanding thriller, it also talks about a major issue in today’s society. It’s safe to say this book broke my heart and messed with my head! The storyline was outstanding, the characters intriguing and the amount of suspense was unbelievable. I cannot recommend this book enough, I only have positive things to say about this book. There wasn’t a single flaw. It was misleading and shocking - things that all great thrillers should be. All I can say is: this is a must read thriller for everyone.

This is definitely a just 5 more minutes then I’ll go to bed kinda book , I couldn’t put it down !
It kept me in suspense the whole way through ,

When Rose a chronic insomniac finds a lost journal belonging to Finn Matthews her obsession of finding out what’s happened to him begins as do the consequences of her actions . Finn believed someone wanted to kill him.

Rose discovers a spate of unsolved murders or missing men with striking similarities to Finns case , but why won’t the police investigate his case?
Rejected by her family and with nothing to lose just how far will Rose go to uncover the truth and at what cost......

A fast addictive thriller with a gripping ending , jack jordan has smashed it again .

Oh, my! This is such a gripping read.

An opening of “if you’re reading this, I’m dead” holds great promise and this doesn’t disappoint.

The main character of Rose is hugely frustrating at times, but, as the story progresses I became more enthralled. The descriptions of her insomnia are heartbreaking and it’s a roller coaster of a story that includes corruption, family conflict, grief and murder and had me turning the pages from first to last.

Another gripping read from this really good author.

Rose has been rejected by her family, suffers from insomnia and is on the brink. One night she collides with a man running through the streets who quickly vanishes, the only sign he ever existed is a journal which is dropped at her feet. She starts to dedicate her sleepless nights to discovering what happened to Finn Matthews, the author of the journal. Why was he convinced someone wanted to kill him? And why in the midst of a string of murders won’t the police investigate his disappearance? Rose is determined to uncover the truth, but has no idea what the truth will cost her.
Another fantastic book by Jack Jordan, a fantastic story which really gets you thinking about the society we live in. Really hard to put this one down once you start reading it. Loved it!
Thank you to Atlantic Books and Netgalley for my advanced copy in exchange for my review.

There were some real strong points of this book for me. Jack Jordan does an excellent job of capturing the experience of both grief and insomnia, what it's like to suffer these things and the vast, almost unbearable impact they have on a person's life. The overwhelming frustration of not being believed or listened to by those around you is also drawn well, as is what it's like to suffer under prejudice.

I did find the emotion slightly more effective than the plot. I felt the book dragged in places and was quite repetitive. The start and end were both tense and strong, but it has rather a 'saggy middle'. Overall an enjoyable read but perhaps could have been tightened up a bit to keep the emotional impact but improve the pace.

A very enjoyable read! I was very interested in getting my hands on this one after I read the blurb and I am pleased to say that I was not let down.

The story is written very well and the characters are interesting and jump off the page. I would recommend this read!

Night by Night

I have a handful of authors whose books I will read without question, no need to read the synopsis, and Jack Jordan is one of those on the list!!

Night by Night is Jordan’s latest offering and sobbing hell, what an emotional and psychological roller coaster it was! I loved every single word of this book; I couldn’t put down and at the same time, I didn’t want it to end. I wish I could read it again for the first time!

Rose is plagued by insomnia, rejected by those she loves, she’s already on the brink when she happens upon a journal which begins ‘If you’re reading this, I’m dead.’ Rose’s obsession turns deadly; who can she trust, where can she turn?

Night by Night is a powerful book on topics that have been handled amazingly and will make you question the society in which we live. This is a truly dark and emotionally charged read that will grip you, I was so emotionally invested in Rose’s story that she was on my mind whenever I wasn’t reading the book.

A definite 5 star read, I can’t recommend it enough!

A book loaded with suspense, you are quickly drawn into a heartbreaking story that rapidly develops into something much darker and harrowing. I found it hard to put this one down, even when you aren't reading it it occupies your thoughts.
A well written and brilliantly plotted story that starts off on a low simmer but quickly comes to the boil with twists and turns to hold your interest.

Night by Night is a heart-breaking, heart-stopping read that I couldn’t put down! 5 STARS!

The story follows the life of Rose whose world has spiralled out of control after developing chronic insomnia. From the very first line I was immediately drawn to Rose and her challenges. Here is a woman who had her life together and everything she wanted, only to find it all destroyed by her inability to sleep.

What I loved about this book is how the author held nothing back. It was incredibly raw and emotionally charged, but entwined within this portrayal of a woman at rock bottom is also an AMAZING thriller of a story that had me wondering if the society I live in is as open-minded as I would like to believe it is.

I could not turn the pages fast enough!!

My thanks to the author, Corvus, and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Thank you to Netgalley, Atlantic Books and Jack Jordan for the chance to read and review this book.

Jack Jordan has done it again. This was another gripping, twisted, dark, and haunting thriller that I couldn’t put down. Last year ‘Before Her Eyes’ blew me away and was one of my top books of the year so I was excited to read his latest novel and thrilled to have the chance to read an advanced copy.

Rose Shaw has been suffering from crippling insomnia for a decade. She lives her life in a haze of exhaustion that leaves her feeling like a failure as a wife and mother. So when she decides to drive her daughters to their football match and try to watch from the sidelines, her intention is to make up to them all the times she stayed at home trying to sleep instead. Her well intentioned decision turns out to be the biggest mistake of her life, results in her whole life falling apart, the death of one of her twin daughters, and rejection by the other and her husband.

Then another seemingly ordinary day results in events that lead to another life-changing decision for Rose when a hooded stranger crashes into her one night and drops a journal. Unable to resist temptation, Rose decides to read the diary before handing it into the police the next day and is unprepared for what is inside: a detailed account of how the author Finn Matthews was stalked and in fear for his life. When the police refuse to investigate, Rose takes matters into her own hands and decides to find out herself what happened to Finn. Her search will lead her to a string of missing and dead men, police failures and corruption, and bring back memories of a time she would rather forget. Will Rose’s investigation be in vain while she is tarnished with the brush of insanity to try and silence her? Or will she finally reveal the truth and stop the stalker before another man is taken?

It isn’t often that I instantly connect with a character but that is exactly what happened with Rose. I thought she was a great protagonist, and while I understood why some people hated for what she did, I found myself having deep sympathy for her and liking her character immensly. She is flawed, broken, isolated, lost and a shell of her former self. She’s desperate to win the love and forgiveness of her husband and child but doesn’t know what else to try. Finding Finn’s diary gives her a purpose, something to hope and fight for after years mired in the wilderness of her grief. We start to see another side to her: someone tenacious, determined and won’t be intimidated. Her inner monologue at the start of the book was amusing and I could relate to a lot of the thoughts she had while plagued by insomnia. The mysterious stalker was also a fantastic character. He was almost ghostly in his elusiveness, part of the fear he struck in me as a reader was not knowing who he was. I loved the fact that he was so skillfully written that I only realised his identity shortly before it was revealed in a heart-stopping turn of events that were so vivid and terrifying that was holding my breath in anticipation.

Night By Night is a novel brimming with foreboding and suspence. The multilayered plot is well-written, pulling on your heartstrings one minute and scaring you the next. The author makes you feel like you’re living the experience along with Rose, which meant I honestly thought I was going to have a panic attack at one point! This is an unforgettable and riveting book perfect for fans of mystery and thrillers. It shows that Mr. Jordan truly deserves to be called a “rising star of crime fiction”.

I have read all of Jack Jordans books, and have enjoyed every one but, I hate to give a low rating, I really struggled with Night by Night, it started of really well, but somehow it lost the way and was so drawn out,

This was a bit of a slow burner for me. It seemed to take a while for things to get going, however I appreciate some will love this build up of tension.

Bit of a twist at the end but sadly not enough for me.
