Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
How can YOU be kind to the world around you?
-"Start a conversation with a new kid at your school."
-"If you overhear kids saying bad things about someone else, step in to say something nice about them."
-"Make room for a new kid at the lunch table."
-"Make your backyard a safe haven for winged things. They'll bring extra joy as they fly by your window."
'Be Kind' by Naomi Shulman is, hands down, one of the most delightful books to read and give your family ideas for being our kindest selves.
Shulman gives 125 ways to "make the world a happier place." But even outside of that, it is also visually beautiful and fun...making kids want to pick it up and read it again and again...and, in turn, want to do the many kind things the book suggests.
Every single home and classroom NEEDS this book in easy reach... I bought my own physical copy the second I finished reading this digital one.
A HUGE Thank You to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
More than anything at the moment, we all need to Be Kind. An inspiring story showing some children and their journeys into being a better human.
A book showcasing different kind acts. It provides children many ideas and situations on how and where to be kind. Illustrations are bright and wonderful.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
My Thoughts
Think of this book a box and each of its pages as pixie dust that contain kindness. Now go ahead and sprinkle that all around. With adorable and vibrant illustrations accompanying the simple, easy to follow text, this book encourages its readers (kids and adults alike) to be kindness warriors each and every day.
The suggestions range from the super-easy (smile at someone in the car next to you or on the street, be the first to say good-morning, share a treat) to others that require just a little bit more effort (learn how to say hello in many languages, memorize jokes, make and send cards simply because) to those that need help from older people (like entertaining at a senior center).
This book thus teaches everyone (whether you are six or sixty) many ways to be kind – to loved ones, strangers, and even to themselves – thus making the world a better place.
In Summary
Be Kind and gift this book to loved ones, and get one for yourself too!! This book is so endearingly cute that you will want one for yourself, and it will help each of us to keep up with our random acts of kindness, and give us little reminders each day…
Disclaimer: Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the eARC of the book; these are my honest opinions after reading this book.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a book of easy things to do to show kindness towards others. Most of the things are simple and don't need much money or materials to do. I think it's a great book for teaching empathy. The pictures were simple and bright and the text flowed well.
Lovely suggestions that inspire, we will certainly include them in our family!
The proposed activities are simple, charming and best of all, they develop social awareness, ethical behaviors, cooperation and solidarity; In addition to promoting order and consideration towards others including animals. The author invites children to be more proactive, participatory, positive, which in my opinion is a way to learn to motivate themselves, which is a very important competence for leadership and success. In general, children will learn to be less egotistical and individualistic (it can be a cause of desolation and depression), to strengthen the awareness of our interconnection, to be members with a positive and creative impact on their community.
I recommend this book to put into practice in family, at school, everywhere and to help our children develop a constructive attitude that enriches their lives, put their values into action, nurture appreciation for themselves and others, to be able to respond to seemingly unfortunate circumstances and give them a creative twist, to relate with less drama and more humorous, and in short give deep meaning to their lives.
My sincere appreciation to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book
I like the title of this book and the ideas given in it are great. They are simple but make children think about how to be kind in the world, that doesn’t involve materialistic things. It is clear and easy to read, with simple pictures to get the point across. This is a great book to give to children so they can be kind in this world, that is not always kind to us.
Be Kind: You Can Make the World a Happier Place!
written by Naomi Shulman
illustrated by Hsinping Pan
Looking for a good way to make children more aware of how to be kind and demonstrate it every day? Then Be Kind: You Can Make the World a Happier Place! by Naomi Shulman is the perfect book for you. With over 100 ideas of kind things to do, Be Kind can be read at one sitting or broken up into a suggestion per day. I would suggest doing both! Not all suggestions are appropriate for all children or settings. For example, setting up a neighborhood lost and found could be problematic in some neighborhoods or for a child who needs boundary guidelines. I really think this is a good book for an adult to share with a child so that discussion can occur about safety issues and materials, and assistance and supervision can be provided as needed. Most of the examples, however, are just uncomplicated, courteous actions such as smiling at people or sharing room on bleachers. Just thinking of kind things and implementing them can help you think of more kind things to do. Children could even write and illustrate a book of their own ideas or a log of their acts of kindness.

I think everyone can enjoy this book and learn from it too. Learning kindness is best starting as early as possible and this book is geared toward teaching this in a fun way to little ones through illustrations with ideas they can accomplish daily. Many are very simple. There is more to it as well in this easy to follow book of activities. Some ideas are saying "good morning" and learning how to say "hello" in other languages. Perhaps sending cards to others just for fun or giving a compliment to someone. These are only a few kind ideas given in this wonderful book to help make the world a happier place.
I like this book to be read over time and to use as lessons with your child or in an educational setting. It can help with friendship lessons as well as helping in anti-bully lessons. There are many kindness ideas including elements about having good manners and positive character. There are ideas such as turning lights off when leaving a room to help the environment and donating to others. One small act of kindness really can mean the world to someone and when a child sees their act of kindness brings a smile to someone else it means the world to them as well. It changes the world in a positive way for all involved and this book helps give ideas to help with this process.
I thought that the idea behind this book was excellent and the execution of the book was spot on.
The world can be a really negative place at times and this is a book aimed at children to be kind and try little things everyday to be kind to others. The book is easy to follow and read and the ideas are brief and clear. It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!!
Be Kind is a colorful collection of kid-friendly acts of kindness. Most of the suggestions can be completed independently which is very empowering for kids. The graphics are cute and engaging. I would use this book in my lessons about friendship, kindness, and bullying prevention for primary students. Due to its length, I may need to break up the book or concentrate on my favorite sections. I will recommend this book to other educators and parents. Thanks Storey Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this title.
Be Kind by Naomi Shulman. Be Kind is a very cute children’s story. Gives ideas on how to be Kind to your classmates when they are having a bad day. How to help at home.
Share a treat with a friend. Memorize a few great jokes. Smile and wave at someone in the cat next to you. This book has many different activities that teach children to be kind to each other and maybe even to themselves. There are things that a 5 year old can do, there are things that a 15 year old could do and there are things that a 50 year old can do. This book has great suggestions that can be done by a variety of ages for a variety of ages. I really enjoyed the entire book and thought the illustrations that go along with some of the activities are lovely. This book definitely deserves a place on our shelf.
This is a wonderful book with endearing illustrations which encourages children to look for ways to be kind and helpful by offering a multitude of practical and easily implemented examples.
I love that it emphasizes thinking of others and shows how small acts of kindness can make a big difference to others while making the child feel good about him/herself as well!
This book would make a good gift for any young child.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Full of ideas of how children could put a little kindness into their day. With ideas such as giving up your seat on the bus, donating your hair to charity and turning off lights in the room there are ideas to help children of all ages do an act of kindness for others whether that be people they meet, people they will never meet or the environment.
I would hesitate to use this as a text for the whole class to share because of the American spellings, however I may consider using it to give the children ideas or challenges each day.
The book was easy to read with large text and bright colours and the quantity of text was just right with plenty to keep a child interested.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for granting me access to an advance copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
This book is absolutely darling. The illustrations are beautiful and bright. While it’s intended audience is children, I feel every adult could benefit from the wonderful lessons within the contents of this book. My parenting goal has always been “don’t raise a jerk” and this book is here to guide us all.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet read for children that is most beautifully illustrated. Pages are engaging and draw your eye to the page to see everything, so colorful. The message is really great, something all kids (and adults!) would benefit from reading. Highly recommend!
This isa great follow up read aloud or independent read after Be Kind picture book by Pat Zietlow Miller. This provides teachers, parents, and kids ideas that demonstrate everyone can be kind. This are practical deeds children can carry out.

An absolute delight! The funky illustrations were aesthetically pleasing and the overall message in the book cannot be beat: do something kind. I think adults and children could find this book inspiring.
