A legal story about an Iraqi woman accused of war crimes in France for 20 years before when she was still in Iraq. Our legal expert heads to Iraq to investigate. In the background, he's involved somehow with a woman he has hidden away who wears a hijab even though it was declared illegal. I'm going to presume that will come up more in a later volume. The art is your standard European house style.
DNF at 32% - wordy, and just plain uninteresting.

Beautifully made and like watching a movie on pages! I am myself a lawyer who worked with refugees after the Second Gulf War and sometimes wondered what people had done in the days of Saddam so the subject of this comic book was really interesting to me. A half French and half Cameroonian lawyer whose father is a war criminal is asked to defend a lady who is accused of warcrimes in Iraq. The book tackles subjects now hot in France like wearing a veil or not. The book ends halfway in the story and that was a bit of a disappointment but I see part 2 is following soon. Can really recommend it..
In 'The Defender Vol. 1: Legal Eagle' by Laurant Galandon with art by Giroud Volante, a bright defender finds himself in a case that seems unwinnable.
Leo Sully-Darmon can't seem to lose a case. He also loves a good photo-op. When he is approached to represent a woman who is accused of horrendous crimes, he may have found the first case he will lose. All the evidence points to her guilt, but she claims she is innocent. To what ends will Sully-Darmon go to prove her innocence, and are there forces working behind the scenes to deceive him?
It'a good enough story that should have appeal to those who like the lawyer shows on tv. The main character is sympathetic to refugees, so that story seems right out of the headlines. The art was ok and fit the story, but wasn't anything outstanding.
