Worth a read for managers at all levels, lots to think about and learn from in all the different aspects of managing people. Many thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House UK, Ebury Publishing for the ARC.
Essential reading for anyone wanting advice and tips for taking the next step in their career. I wish my own managers had read this!
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
This was a fantastic book for anyone looking to develop their managerial skills. It was helpful without being preachy.
This useful guide would be an excellent companion for someone new to managerial practice or an aspiring leader. Highly practical, it encourages a great deal of introspection and reflection to bring about actionable change.
Interesting book for all managers. In particular those new to management will find this an invaluable resource.
As a relatively new manager, I found this guide so helpful, interesting and really practical. No-nonsense advice backed up with evidence and examples. A must read, especially for this who are new to managerial roles.
Excellent advice for a newbie manager. As an experienced manager, the book didn’t really work for me. But there a few hints and tips along the way.
Well written and a lot of it made so much sense. Now just put it into practice. Thank you for an opportunity to read this book and educate myself. Hopefully it will show in my work place.
Really insightful and useful, especially for new managers, more experienced managers that understand you can always learn something new will certainly take something away from this book. Industry bias on examples / experience but that is to be expected and sometimes those parts of the book can’t transfer to your own industry and experiences but a great ‘handbook’.
I actually found this really quite useful. Not everything she talks about applies to the job that I do, but enough did that I started making notes. And although she works in tech and draws her examples from her own experience, it doesn't feel like you're being lectured by a Facebook zealot and it felt like she'd worked hard to make her advice applicable to most sorts of teams and workplaces and so I think almost anyone who manages people could get something out of this.
I wish I'd read this book years ago, before getting into management, as it would have helped me no end in preparing for the role.
Accessible, easy to read and digest and written in an informative yet engaging way, this book has tips and advice from managing different sized teams to giving and receiving feedback.
A must for all budding and seasoned managers.
A practical and approachable guide to management, whether you've got years of experience managing people or only just getting started. A very worthwhile read if you're new to people managing.
Julie Zhuo's book was a very accessible read. I really liked that she demonstrated examples from her real work life to make her point across. Without suggesting anything extreme, the author manages to engage the reader and provides valuable food for thought.
I totally recommend it for anyone interested in becoming a manager, and for those who already are.
I found it a bit hard to get into this book because I couldn’t really relate to the material. But intro was captivating but as it progressed I couldn’t quiet relate maybe because it’s different work environments I’ve been in
A very good book on managerial skills, especially liked the part on feeling as though you shouldn’t be managing people who were recently the same level as you. Lots of tips, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone starting out.
Julie Zhuo became a manager when she was only 25, and was instantly filled with questions about what it means - how to encourage team work, how to guide the careers of others and how on earth was she supposed to do all of this with confidence? This book is made up of the most important lessons she has learned, which will offer advice to new or experienced managers. It is written in an easy and engaging style, full of practical examples and advice. I would recommend this to anyone facing the challenging role of managing others.
This book was absolutely brilliant! an invaluable tool to all new managers and a great reference for those who have been managers for a while. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and colleagues
This is a great guide for new managers, I have been in my first management position for just over a year and wish I had this book then!
I'm not sure it was as helpful to me now but it is a good book to be able to dip in and out of. I figure that if you take one thing away from a book that you didn't know before it is worth it. And for me I did.
I would recommend this book to new managers or anyone with an interest in tech companies, there is a little insight about this which is rewarding.
I think this is a great book for new managers and those taking their first steps but also for more experienced managers - there are plenty of tips. Good read.
