Winging It is a well-written and insightful novel about motherhood. What I really liked about this novel is how authentic and relatable both the story and the characters feel. The protagonist, Emily, is a new mother who struggles to adapt to life taking care of her baby girl. While everyone else around her seems to be doing just fine, Emily is having a hard time coping with the lack of sleep, change of humor, the annoyance to her partner for the smallest thing.
Not her supportive-yet-often-clueless partner, not her family who lives far away seems to understand her fears and her doubts. And then she meets other mothers who, like her, are struggling, new mothers who quickly become new friends and I enjoyed how Winging It focuses on this friendship between the new mothers, how they support and comfort each other.
I found Winging It funny, engaging, and realistic, a fantastic story about parenthood, love, family, and friendship, perfect not only for mothers, but for everyone, because you will feel you can identify with the characters and their problems.
I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me of bringing my first baby home and thinking "oh my god!" what next! I think it was well written with humour and expertly portrayed those first few months.
A great debut novel by Anna Jefferson.. The book it well written, the storyline is easy to follow and the characters extremely likeable. I look forward to reading more fom the author in the future
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC
This was a highly entertaining and completely relatable account of birth and the first tentative steps as a new mother.
My own children are more or less adult now, but this book made me grin and remember those highs and lows as if it was all so much more recent. The memories are lasting and vivid from this period of your life and anything that helps comfort new mothers in their uncertainty is a really good thing in my book! Frank, funny and one to share with every new mum who thinks they’re out of their depth.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is so accurate and well written it is hard to believe at times it is fiction. It had me laughing out loud (much to other people's amusement) and there were so many bits that spoke to my heart. It was one of those books I never wanted to end.
I probably found this book resonated with me so much as my little bit has just turned one and so many of the thoughts and experiences Emmie has echo my own. You Can Take Her Home Now is definitely worth a read and I would give it more than five stars if I could!
There's a lot of mummyhood novels out there at the moment but this one looked like it would be a good, realistic read - and it didn't disappoint. Hilarious and true to life, I identified with so many parts of this novel - I hope she writes another one! Definitely a good book to curl up with on a beach or a rainy day.

A great debut novel. Anna Jefferson writes about the first year of parenthood with great humour and reality. It follows Emily negotiating being a first time mum, making mummy friends, keeping her relationship going and getting back to work. A wonderful page turner.
Thanks to Anna Jefferson, Netgalley and Orion for an advanced copy.
This book was so enlightening! It was really vivid and hard to read at times - but I think it's great to read a realistic portrayal of motherhood rather than a rose-tinted glasses view. The story-line follows Emmie in her first year of motherhood - and her regret around her first best friend whose absence she feels acutely now that she is so isolated. I think it could've used more development and tension, especially in the flashbacks to her teenage years with her best friend as that was quite a gentle plot and twist, but as a whole this was an easy read that kept me hooked most of the way through.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. This was such a fun book to read. Although motherhood is a thing of the past for me I would still recommend it this to others.
Even though my own child is now a fully-grown adult, I still love reading hilarious ‘new parent’ stories and blogs. I think that, even if your baby-rearing days were many years ago, you still want reassurance that you weren’t the only one who got fed up sometimes, or couldn’t cope and that, actually, you didn’t do too bad a job as a parent!
This funny, entertaining, and true-to-life story follows Emily and Nick after the birth of their daughter, Lucy. It’s a great read that I’d highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orion for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this book! Honestly after I picked this up I couldn’t put it down until I finished it, which when I got the last page I was gutted and I will miss this book and the characters terribly.
Emily is the main character and definitely someone a lot of mothers will relate to and feel like they wernt/arnt alone when they’ve just had a baby. She is one of my favourite characters ever. I wish I had a mum friend like her.
I will be recommending this book to everyone especially those who are about to become parents or have recently become parents as they will be able to relate to this book.
But seriously this is a real fun and feel good read. Absolutely fantastic!
Im really looking forward to reading more from ths author in the future!
Eye opening funny read about new motherhood, if I had kids I’d probably relate a bit more but was still a funny entertaining read even if you don’t have kids
Hilarious, very true account to how new mums feel and act, amazing read. As a first time Anna Jefferson reader I would recommend and read more of her work.
This is a nice & relatable read to anyone who has children. It’s worth a read & I would recommend it.
You Can Take Her Home now is a book about a mother struggling with her first child. Emily has brought home her baby girl and finds that it is a lot more work than she first bargained for. It's a warm and funny book that really emphasises the importance of female friendships, This was a pleasant enough read and I think if you have children you would be able to relate to it.
