This book has everything! It has ambushes, betrayals, alliances, cannibals and evil priests. I really enjoyed the overall plot of this book and it reads more like an adventure fantasy than a magic base one which I really enjoyed. The writing and the pacing of the story are also great and I found that I really got involved with the story. I will admit I wasn't sure about it during the first couple of chapters but I continued and I am glad I did. The story really gripped me and I had to keep reading.

The world-building was good, it had a history to it with references to previous wars and also a religion which was corrupt but i found the world intriguing. I would love to learn more about the world in next book! The characters were all well developed and I found them to be a memorable cast of misfits. I loved the dynamic between Chel and Tarfel and the Black Hawks.

One thing I would say is that there is nothing new about this book, it is a standard fantasy book but at the same time it feels fresh and energetic. Personally I felt it was a little like Kings in the Wyld which I loved and highly recommend!

I'm unsure how I felt about the ending. It cleared things up while also leaving me wanting more. I will defiantly continue with this series when the books are released!
