This was a good solid read, keeping the reader entertained until the very last page. Recommended for anyone who loves a good entertaining read.

Mike Croft the SIO in the case is an interesting character, he has a tragic past, which threatens to impinge on his decision-making capacity in the case. John Tynan, a retired detective who was SIO on the previous missing girl case in 1975, sees the similarities between the two cases, and he supports Mike and his team with the new case. His involvement ties up the historical, and present day elements of the story in a realistic way.

This is definitely a page turner with well written and unique characters. Once you pick up this book you cannot put it down until the end - which comes with an unexpected twist.

"The Greenway" is a psychological thriller with a supernatural element. This book was first published in 1995, It had a promising premise and was full of fabulous twists and turns. The main and sub-plots were brilliantly executed by Jane Adams and as for the ending, well it was definitely not what I was expecting. "The Greenway" was a real page- turner and some parts chilled me to the bone. I loved this book and I thought it very worthy of its five stars.

I must say, this was quite a strange story. I liked it and was hanging on every word to find out what was going on.

The suspense this story generated was great but the telling felt just a little off. I couldn’t picture it in my mind. Overall a story worth reading and enjoying.

Definitely edge of your seat psychological suspense. Very Dark Places-ish. I really enjoyed.

This book The Greenway was first published in 1995 and is part of a three part series. This new revised version is as good as the first version.

A psychological thriller full of suspense, mystery and superstition.

Twenty years ago two cousins take a shortcut home between the fields - a place the locals believe is a portal to the spirit world. Along the way, Suzie disappears and Cassie does not. Now after all that time Cassie is married, still has nightmares and there are parts of that day she cannot remember.

So, Cassie’s husband Fergus thinks taking Cassie back to where it all started will help her therapeutically. The problem is another girl goes missing along the Greenway and Cassie is implicated. She has no alibi, she was present during the disappearance, and the victim has a strong resemblance to Suzie.

The two policeman tasked with finding Sara bring in retired D.I. Tyranny who worked on the original case in hopes this will help them find out what really happened twenty year ago and what happened to Sara now.

This is definitely a page turner with well written and unique characters. Once you pick up this book you cannot put it down until the end - which comes with an unexpected twist.

This story had me entrapped from the start, darn it was intriguing and a bit thrilling. It had a few twists and some surprising turns. The storyline kept me glued to its mystified pages This has been an interesting and fascinating read, I love the paranormal ending it clinches it for me.

Cassie Maltham's husband Fergus has persuaded her to visit rural Norfolk where twenty years earlier Cassie's cousin disappeared. The children didn't want to be late getting home and took a shortcut through the Greenway, associated in local myth and legend as a portal to a spiritual world.

When the girls fail to arrive home, a search for them eventually finds Cassie unconscious, but Suzie isn't with her.

Ten-year-old Cassie has no memory of the incident and is unable to explain what happened. Frantic searches by family, villagers, and the police find no trace of Cassie's cousin, and the case remained unsolved.

For twenty years, nightmares have troubled Cassie, and other emotional problems have circumscribed her life. Fergus thinks vacationing with friends in the area will help Cassie put the trauma that has haunted her for twenty years to bed.

Soon after their arrival, however, another child disappears in theGreenway--and there are similarities to the disappearance of Suzie Ashmore. DI Mike Croft with his sergeant and retired DI Tynan (who worked the case of Suzie Ashmore twenty years previously) do their best to find Sara Jane, the missing child.

This was an interesting read with interesting characters. It's horrible what some parents and the police have to go through, for years on end.

Fergus thinks that coming back here will be therapeutic for Cassie, who experienced a childhood trauma in the area. Twenty years previously, Cassie and her cousin Suzie were taking a shortcut home through the 'Greenway' when Suzie vanished.

The Greenway is an ancient ceremonial pathway of some sort that is viewed with superstition in the minds of the locals. Many believe it is a sort of portal to the spirit world.

Now, just days into their holiday, another young girl goes missing. Sara Jane Cassidy was also last seen by her friends on 'The Greenway'. Curiously, Sara Jane resembles Suzie Ashmore in appearance...

The policemen, D.I. Mike Croft and his sergeant Bill Enfield are tasked with the case of finding Sara Jane. D.I. Mike Croft, a young man, is divorced after the death of his only son in a hit-and-run accident, and lives alone. Enfield is married, a career copper with little ambition to move up the ranks, and due to retire soon.

Because the case has so many similarities to the Suzie Ashmore case twenty years before, they enlist the aid of retired D.I. Tynan who worked that case. Tynan jumps at the chance to help out. The Suzie Ashmore case was never solved and he felt it was his own personal failure. Also, he is lonely and at loose ends since his retirement and the death of his beloved wife two years previously.

The two cases have three striking parallels. Both young girls vanished in broad daylight. Both girls disappeared while walking through the Greenway, AND, both girls vanished when Cassie Maltham was in the area... A coincidence?

Cassie, who never fully recovered from her cousin's disappearance, suffers nightmares to this day. Under the care of a psychiatrist, some would consider her mentally unstable.Police frustrations mount...

MY THOUGHTS

"The Greenway" was a satisfying blend of police procedural mystery and thriller. Written in a forthright, linear way it was very easy to follow. The characters were likable. I especially enjoyed the growing friendship between Croft and Tynan. The current D.I. and the retired D.I. are both single, lonely men who are driven by police work. The rural Norfolk setting was atmospheric and well described. The bizarre nature of the case kept my interest throughout.
Although the resolution of the case explained the who and the how, it did not entirely explain the 'why' of the matter as much as I might have liked.
I really enjoyed reading "The Greenway" and plan to read the second Mike Croft novel.

I enjoyed the psychological thriller aspects of the novel but felt the fantasy angle a bit confusing. It never really became obvious to me whether it was real or not, which I found disatisfying.

The Greenway by Jane Adams appears to be a re-release of a book. This did not deter me from reading it however. When I delved into the book, the beginning felt off. I don't generally enjoy a book with a lot of dialogue, and this was just that, hard to get into, and the characters fell flat. Couldn't finish the book, the story was uninteresting and didn't hold my attention.

I always love it when a new author comes along and, even though this book is a re-release from 1995, I am still classing Jane as new as this is the first book she has published with Joffe Books.

As I have briefly mentioned this is a re-published book from over 20 years ago, but it really doesn’t feel like it as it has a very fresh feel to it.

This book has it’s feet in both the 1970s when a young girl vanishes into thin air and the 1990s where the main body of the book happens.

The main character in the book is Cassie who has been drawn back to the place her friend disappeared 20 years ago, and where another child has also vanished in similar circumstances.

This book is a brilliant debut novel by Jane, which had so many twists I couldn’t see what was going to happen next. One of the things I enjoyed was that Cassie remembers nothing of the abduction from 20 years previous so we have no preconceptions and learn everything at the same time as everyone else.

The characters and locations are really well written, which helped the story flow. The characters in particular were really captivating, all with their own issues, which they deal with in their own ways.

Cassie is still having nightmares about events that happened over 20 years ago. At the time Cassie was staying with her aunt and cousin, Suzie. Cassie and Suzie were out playing and when they realised they were going to be late home for tea so they decided to take a short cut through the footpath known as the Greenway, which is steeped in local superstitions. Cassie has no recollection of what happened only that Suzie disappeared and the case has remained unsolved. She has never gotover the trauma and has suffered mental issues and depression since. Cassie, her husband and two friends decide to have a short break in the area where Suzie disappeared to help Cassie to lay her ghosts to rest. While they are there another young girl goes missing near the Greenway. Cassie is a prime suspect as she was in the area when the girl disappeared. Will the girl be found, is there a connection between her disappearance and Suzie’s or are the local superstitions that the Greenway is an evil place true? This book is a good psychological thriller with mystery and intrigue and plenty of twists along the way. An enjoyable read.

Just finished The Greenway by Jane Ada last night. Really good storyline that had you engrossed from the beginning. Good storyline that had you guessing an not one you can guess what is going to happen which I love. Love surprises an hate when you can predict the storyline as it kinda makes it not worth reading. But then all of a sudden it was really rushed an it was over with crucial parts of the story not explained that you need to know. Worth a read though an I’ve another from Netgalley downloaded an ready to go...

The Greenway was first published in 1995 a fact that I found out only when going through Good Reads. Usually when one reads a book published at least a decade earlier, it can be sensed upon but the brilliant thing about Greenway is that it never felt even a bit outdated. The writing is still apt and the mystery was mind boggling. There are twists and turns at every point of the story keeping the reader engaged. There's an atmospheric and sinister tone to the story that blends well and the characters comes alive in a real sense.

The claustrophobic feel of the small village, the mental illness that Cassie endures after the trauma of her cousin's disappearance, the grief of the parents of the missing child, each and every aspect f the story was interesting and the supernatural elements leaving the reader to wonder about Cassie's dreams adds the thrill to this excellent drama. Highly recommended for thriller fans.

It was twenty years ago when little Suzie went missing. Her cousin Cassie was with her but her only memories are in dreams. Cassie has returned to put her demons to sleep – to face the quiet village where Suzie disappeared so that she can move on with her life. When another child goes missing it doesn’t seem quite as simple…………………

This is an easy to read, fairly light detective story. I found that the story flowed well & made sense on the whole. The ending did get a little confused but I got the relevant facts from the last few chapters.

Mike Croft is the detective investigating the disappearance. He has a past with sadness but is significantly less dysfunctional than many fictional detectives. His team includes a retired police officer and an older policeman with extensive local knowledge. On the whole they make a good team and work well together. The characters could have done with a little more depth but I see that this is the first in a series so I am sure the characters will develop as they progress.

I wouldn’t have said that this is a book with great suspense or a psychological element. It is just a light detective book.

I enjoyed this book. It isn’t going to set the world alight but it was an enjoyable read. I would certainly be happy to read any more in the series as they come out.
