This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Well, wasn’t this a delightful twisty little book!! I had no idea what way this was going to go and I didn’t see the ending coming! Even though I feel I know what happened at the end, I don’t know if I do know what happened at the end if that makes sense. It’s really difficult to try and explain this. There’s an ending, obviously, and there is something that happens, obviously and it could have gone one or two ways. In the epilogue, someone’s talking but I don’t know who was talking. I know that sounds silly, but I don’t know who it was. I found it interesting to see the build-up to the end. I had no idea it was going to go the way I did. I had inklings of what was going to happen. I had an inkling of a story, a storyline to do with Beth when we were listening to it, I got very upset for Alice because of it. But then, at a birthday party, I began to doubt what I actually knew and what I actually thought was real. I thought it was brilliant.
I was thinking about this book when I wasn’t listening to the audiobook, and it was very addictive to read. When I looked at the audiobook, and it said there were two minutes left I really couldn’t figure out how it was going to end and I was panicking in case there was no ending and that I was missing the audiobook. I just wasn’t sure I couldn’t see how this was going to end.
I’m definitely a huge fan now of Sandy Jones and I will be checking out other novels she has written because she has written such a twisted thrilling book that literally did keep me on my toes. It was just great. I can’t tell you too much about this book because you need to go in completely blind, you need to have no idea what’s going on. You have to enjoy this journey. I did find it hard to figure out.
I loved Alice. I felt for Alice and Beth, well until I didn’t, now I don’t know how I feel about her, Beth that is. Nathan, well I really didn’t want anything to be true about Nathan!!
But who knows?
I can’t tell you!!
Definitely want to read it was entertaining. There were so many twists and yeah, I really enjoyed my time in this little world.
Unfortunately for me, I saw the plot twist very early on and spoiled my engagement of it. Not a bad book at all, but if you read a lot of thrillers, you'll know. Felt very much like a formulaic, cookie cutter thriller that also could've been shorter.
I previously read one of Sandie Jones books so was excited to request this one. From the premise, I thought I could probably predict what would happen in the story but happy to report I was wrong! That being said, I did find the characters hard to get on with and it did slow my reading a bit. I wanted to find out what happened, but equally wasn’t too bothered. It was a good, easy read but could have given the reader more!
Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat threw out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed
Sibling rivalry gone crazy!! An absolutely chilling tale about just how far someone would go to take back what they perceive as theirs. This story charts the lives of those that “get in the way” and how inconsequential they appear to a greedy narcissist on a mission. Loved working out the intricacies within the story!
Couldn't stop reading and I finished it in a day. Some really good twists and turns to keep you guessing and I didn't see the final one coming. Can't wait for more from the author!
A few years ago, I read Sandie Jones's debut novel The Other Woman, and I absolutely loved it. I knew that I had stumbled upon something special as the ending was so fantastic and it had such a massive twist, that I couldn’t help but be completely taken with it. That probably means that I had unrealistically high expectations going into this read. Don't get me wrong, this novel was an entertaining read and I did enjoy it, it’s just that it didn’t live up to the incredibly high expectations that I had. My fault entirely.
Without going into plot details as I feel that that could ruin it for others, I will say that this book was a quick and easy read and it hogged my attention for the full 2 days that I spent reading it. I loved that the story was told from alternating POV’s, and I was specifically taken by the middle section of the book involving Beth’s story. I was absolutely engrossed and fascinated while reading about her life and how she met the man of her dreams. I liked Beth and so it was easy for me to enjoy her story. As for Alice, now that’s a different kettle of fish. I’m not sure if the author meant for us to dislike Alice, but I did. In fact, I couldn’t stand her. She seemed incredibly insecure and needy, and I found it difficult to drum up any sympathy for her at all. From the get go, she seemed so negative and mistrustful of everyone and everything and I couldn’t relate to that. She seemed to have a wonderful life yet she came across as unhappy. Having said that though, I don’t mind books in which I don’t like one or more of the characters. Ultimately, that makes me feel engaged and so I generally have no problem with that.
I’m not sure what it was about this book that didn’t make me love it. It was a solid story and I’m not sad that I read it. I think my problem was that I wasn’t taken by Alice and so I didn’t feel any close connection to her or her story, and the book really was about her. I found her part in the story boring. Also, by the time the twist came at the end, I was a little underwhelmed and my mind had moved onto the next book that I was looking forward to reading. My feelings about this book aside, I will be sure to look out for further releases by this author and I will continue to read her books as I think she writes entertaining stories. Unfortunately, this one was just okay for me.
More twists than the helter skelter at the fair 😂 what a cracking read this was, I couldn’t put it down. I’ve never read from the author before and I’ll be looking out for any new books that appear from her, really enjoyed reading this one and loved the ending! Great read buy it..,!

Even though I ended up buying a physical copy of this book, I would still like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a copy of this read in exchange for an honest review.
Another 5 star read from this author! I was completely hooked from start to finish! Such a page-turner!
This is a read that I honestly thought I had figured out straight away, but with twist after twist, it turned out to be far more exciting and heart-stopping then I thought! Excellent!
Can't wait for her next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC.
I read Sandie's first novel, The Other Woman and was blown away by it so I had high expectations for The First Mistake. I was not disappointed!!
Sandie Jones is certainly one to watch. I'm astounded this is only her second novel her writing is absolutely fantastic. I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was an excellent read.. I was hooked from the start, a real page turner with lots of twists and turns throughout. A great story with interesting characters. I would recommend this book for people that enjoy reading this genre, I will be looking out for more books by this author in the future.
Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this
This book drew me in from the very first page.
It was a well plotted, well written and on the edge of your seat book.
I raced through this book.
It was full of twists and turns and I did not see half of the twists.
A brilliant domestic suspense novel about a wife, her husband and the woman who is supposed to be her best friend.
Alice is married to Nathan and they seem to have it all, a beautiful house, a growing business and 2 children, but then something explodes, lies and secrets come to light and Alice has to work out a way to get out the mess she doesn’t understand how she’s in.
There are so many twists and turns in this book and each one leaves you reeling, it’s a fast paces, engrossing, quick read full of secrets and lies.
A twisted and entertaining plot perfect for psychological thriller fans, with a cliff hanger-esque ending.
Thank you to NetGalley for a advanced copy of this in exchange for a honest review.
Alice appears to have it all but she loses her first husband in mysterious circumstances and then her second one starts to act strangely. The first part was a bit dull and I wondered if it was going to be a DNF but it certainly sprang to life when Beth (Alice’s best friend) tells her story and from then on I was hooked and had to keep reading with mouth agape at all the antics on the pages! Well worth the time invested in it and thoroughly enjoyable.
I enjoyed the other woman. This book not so much. It felt like there was too much filler and some of the plot was predictable.
Predictable, far fetched, silly, all words that describe this book but all the reasons that make it enjoyable to read too! Dramatic and full of suspense! An easy read
Fantastic novel. Really enjoyed the suspense throughout building to the finale. A number of twists including one that I wasn’t expecting
The First Mistake is a book I wasn’t sure if I was going to like after reading a few reviews but I really enjoyed this psychological thriller.
Alice has what appears to be a great life, two lovely children a 2 million pond house a thriving business and a doting husband, life hasn’t been easy after her first husband and love of her life tragically dies, Alice finds it hard to not fear the worst in situations.
I’m not going to go into the storyline as I feel your best coming in blind as the twist at the end is very cleverly thought out. The plot moves along at a steady pace, picking up speed about a third in when you don’t really have a clue what is starting to happen as your led up the garden gate.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
