This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
I love Diane Chamberlain’s books, she’s one of my favourites and I’ve read them all. I loved the storyline to this, but I wasn’t sure about the time travel aspect of it. Wonderfully written as normal and I couldn’t put it down. Ending was unexpected but a lovely finish to the story. Look forward to her next book, and thank you for accepting my request.
Wow, what a read, this was excellent. I’ve read a few Diane Chamberlain books before which I’ve always enjoyed. This one takes it to the next level. A can’t say much with giving spoilers but it’s heart stopping, twisty and ends correctly. I’m a very happy reader. Thank you
Thank you NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for allowing me to read an eARC copy of this book.
I’m keeping this short because I honestly don’t have that much to say about it 🤷🏻♀️ but I think it’s time to admit that Diane Chamberlain just isn’t the author for me. There’s something about her writing that I just can’t connect with and that just doesn’t work for me. I don’t know what it is exactly but her books always fall a bit flat.
This story just really didn’t grip me; I found the time travel aspect to be really weak and didn’t feel that it was properly explained. Hunter makes a point of stating you can’t change anything; but then proceeds to get married, have a child, and stay in the past. I think that’s called changing things??
Everything feels skimmed over. Like we spend the whole book with Carly but I just didn’t ever get a sense of her?
I honestly had to skim some pages because I just didn’t find it interesting. Not one for me sadly!!
An unusual book for me to read as I don't usually like time travel books but the story line soon had me interested. It is a warm story of loss and love which I did enjoy.
I'm afraid not my favourite Diane Chamberlain book, but an adequate read that kept me turning the pages.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was all the rage when I first started blogging, every second person was talking about it and it piqued my curiosity and it was probably in the first batch of books I added to my TBR thanks to other reviews. When I got an opportunity to request the ARC for the latest version, I jumped at the chance and was pretty pleased with being approved. That said, the following review is completely based on my own reading experience and not actually altered by the hype surrounding it.
The basic premise of the story is simple, there is a mysterious entry into Carly's life- a man who will change her life but not in the sense that the first reading of these words would imply. Without adding too many spoilers I would say it borders on sci-fi. The science part of the solution is rather vague and is not a central focus of the tale, it is but a means to an end. Carly is despondent in the wake of the destruction caused to her personal life thanks to the Vietnam war. To top the problems she is having, her unborn child is in danger. A single solution is offered to her and she takes it. What follows are the twists and turns in two parts of the choices she makes. These choices not only impact her but also her immediate family and everyone's future in one form or another. The people were very fleshed out and although I did not shed a tear with any of them, there were some heart-rending moments which were well written. If some events seemed ultimately too convenient, that is both the boon and bane of the genre.
The narrative is surprisingly fast-paced and covers a lot of ground, lingering on a few more of the moments in between might have wrung those missing tears from me. The story is well written and the people are likeable (which is usually a bonus for someone like me). I would recommend this to those people who like family dramas, and especially those who like the whole mother-daughter relationship to be an important factor.
Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy in return for an honest review
A very good read and one I can highly recommend to others.
I could not put this down.
Thoroughly enjoyable with an amazing cast of characters that you cannot help but engage with.
I've been a fan of Diane Chamberlain for many years and have love many of her previous books. I was very excited to start reading her newest book The Dream Daughter. This book is very different from anything that I have read from the author before and I have to admit it took me a while to get into the story. However after the first quarter of the book I was hooked and it has been one my favourite books of the year so far.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for an honest review. I have read several of Diane Chamberlain's books before son I was excited to read this one. And wow what a book! Definitely one of the best books I have read this year. The story is very different style of story to the other books by Diane. The story begins in 1970 and tells the story of Carly, who has recently lost her husband. To describe what happens next would be a big spoiler, finding out is what makes the book. I couldn't put this book down and although I couldn't wait to find out the ending I'm a little disappointed I've finished the book. All I can say is if you like a good mystery read this book you will not be disappointed
Great read. A truly beautiful book. You will not be disappointed. A must read,
Thank you to both NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest unbiased review
I have read many of Diana Chamberlains novels and this one doesn’t disappoint, although very different. Great concept and storyline. Be warned as it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but so worth the ride.
Exactly what I expected from Diane Chamberlain. An easy, engrossing and engaging read that leaves the reader thinking. One to read quickly and consider slowly. Highly recommended.
The dream daughter is a fantastic read that gripped me from the beginning. As the story opens it’s the 1960’s and we meet Carly on her fist day on a new placement as a physical therapist, as the newbie she’s given the cantankerous stranger who won’t do anything,Hunter .
The story then skips on and Hunter is married to Carly’s sister Patti and Carly is pregnant by her husband Joe , who was killed whilst fighting in the Vietnam war. Carly is now back living with Patti and Hunter and their son as she waits for the birth of her baby. Suddenly Carly’s world starts to fall apart as she discovers her baby has a fatal heart condition, which in 1970, is untreatable, she’s lost her husband and now it looks like she’s going to lose the last connection with him, her baby. However Hunter has a secret and it could change everything and possibly save her babies life.
Diane Chamberlain is a masterful writer and each novel of hers I read is unique and so very different from its predecessor. You know you’re in for a marvellous time the moment you pick it up. Suspend reality and dive in to this incredible book you won’t be disappointed.
thank you for allowing me to read this book. it was very easy to read. i enjoyed the story line and the characters. look forward to reading more from Diane.
This was an absolutely fantastic book by a brilliant author. The story went thus, Carly in 1970 knew her baby had a heart defect, in those days, it was life threatening. But her brother-in-law Hunter came to her with a secret. He was a time traveler from the future year 2018 and he wanted her to travel to save her daughter.
What a mother won't do to save her daughter was so brilliantly shown in the book. I loved every word by this author. There were twists so unexpected that I had to scream aloud. My heart broke for Carly at certain places.
Overall this book was everything I wanted and more. Absolutely mind blowing.
In 1970 Caroline is pregnant and has just found out that her unborn baby has a heart defect that will mean the baby will die shortly after birth. There is nothing that can be done, but her brother-in-law knows that there is something that can be done, but he will have to explain a secret to Caroline that will be hard for her to understand.
As you would expect from an Author of this calibre, this is a beautifully written story that was a pleasure to read. The twists and turns were great and very clever in the ways that they linked up unexpectedly at different points in the storytelling.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters, Caroline and Hunter being my favourites.
The story emphasises the lengths that a mother will go to for her child, and reading to story I found myself wondering if I would have been as brave as Caroline was.
Overall, I was hooked from the start and absolutely loved the book from start to finish and I would definitely recommend it to others.
My thanks to #NetGalley and #PanMacmillan for allowing me to read and review this book.
Carly Sears, a young widow, in 197os America finds her world ripping apart again when she finds out that the baby that she is carrying, the only link she has to her dead husband Joe, has a major heart defect and will not survive when born. Thinking that all hope is lost Carly must prepare for the worst. But things take a dramatic turn when her brother in law, Hunter, tells her that he can help to save her daughter.
Unbeknownst to Carly and her sister, Hunter is in fact a time traveller from 2018, who fell in love in the 1970s and decided to stay behind. However, he still knows how to travel in time to the future and he is adamant that in doing so Carly's unborn baby will be provided with new technology needed to help cure her heart defect. Carly must now take a literal leap of faith into the future to secure a future for her baby.
What an absolute page turner this book was. The twists and turns had me guessing until the very end and my heart broke for Carly when the events of 9/11 meant that her time travelling suddenly took a turn for the worst. I thought that this was such a cleverly written and intriguing book that I could not put it down. Nor did I want tosleep at night as I kept telling myself 'one more chapter'. I can't wait for Diane Chamberlain's next offering.
I started this novel knowing it was going to be different from my usual books when the time travelling started wondered if I was going to like it but loved it the characters the story telling in the different times and places and most of all Carley trying to help her unborn sick baby with her brother in law helping her A story of love and heartbreak at times but beautifully written and the ending was perfect a fantastic read
I have always enjoyed Diane Chamberlain's books so I was looking forward to reading The Dream Daughter but I was not prepared for how much I loved this book!
It is the 1970's. Carly's husband Joe, was killed in Vietnam. Her only link left to her was the baby she carried, the baby Joe never even knew about. When she finds out that the baby has an incurable serious heart defect she is devastated. When her brother in law tells her that there is a way for her baby to live, she is overjoyed. There is a catch. To be cured she has to travel into the future! At first she thinks Hunter is crazy, but when he accurately 'foretells' some events she agrees.
Things do not go entirely smoothly & Diane Chamberlain keeps the reader on their toes as she skips through various timelines. Rationally, the story should be difficult to believe but such is the author's skill that I was totally swept along with it. It is an amazing story of family & a mother's love.
This goes to the top of my books read this year. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this wonderful book.
