This book is an insight into the ups and downs of being married and the hurdles that some couples have to try and get over. Matt and Marie have been married for over twenty years. They have two daughters who live away from home. Matt and Marie have a love-hate relationship, but as a divorce costs are expensive, they stay together. They have tried everything to make their marriage work, they've even seen a therapist. They go on a hiking trip to Estes Park, but while they are there, Marie falls from a cliff into a fast flowing river below. The book goes back and forth between present and past into Matt and Marie's relationship. There are so many twists that you'll find yourself second guessing everything. The question you will ask yourself is did Marie fall or was she pushed? You will need to read this really good book to find out.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and the author JoAnn Chaney for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

hank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for this ARC.

Matt has been married twice. Matt has also been a widower, twice.

Is he a very unlucky husband or a calculated killer?

When I read the blurb on this it looked right up my street. Set across two timelines, it details Matt’s time with both of his wives Janice who tragically died in a house fire, then 20 years later, Marie who met her fate after falling from a cliff.

I felt this had a lot of peaks and troughs but when I got to about 60%, BAM! It got brilliant.

If like me, there is anyone who is struggling with this, I urge you to persevere, you will not be disappointed!

Rating: 8/10

Enjoyable and a fun read!

The story caught my eye from the moment I read the blurb, and I just knew I wanted to read this book. I was not let down and can recommend this to everyone!

I went into this book excited by the synopsis - a man whose two wives both die in suspicious circumstances years apart? I was expecting him to have been let off of the first one somehow, then a huge investigation started after the second but it was sort of all over the place.

It started very strong. The timeline flips between the circumstances around Matt's wife Janice's death, then his wife Marie's death in present day. It then goes into an investigation but a subplot is introduced here, regarding one of the officers (whose name is Ralph Loren and I honestly couldn't not think of Ralph Lauren every time) but I didnt care too much for that. I just wanted to hear about the wives deaths and what actually happened.

In the interest of keeping my review spoiler free, although the writing and descriptions were great, I honestly felt myself getting a bit bored of the incessant twists and turns, I had quite a few eye roll moments and I groaned a little at the ending. It felt like too much.

I did like the references to how women can be just as strong as men, empowering women and I really liked the female officer, Spengler.

It had the makings of a great book, the actual main plot was decent but too many twists for me.

It has been said that marriage is much like a deck of cards. In the beginning all you need is two hearts and a diamond. By the end, you wish you had a club and a spade.

As Long As We Both Shall Live, is a devilish, devious, delicious read that makes you realize marriage can be murder. I mean, the author says it perfectly with, “You can’t be married to someone without sometimes wanting to kill them.....” Chaney gets 5+stars for this tale of martial terror.

I did enjoy this book which is basically 2 stories in one. The first centres around a married couple where the wife has disappeared and the second around what could be a crooked cop. I did not enjoy the Loren Ortiz angle and to be honest still not entirely sure why so much of what could have been a better book was spent on this angle. That said the characters were both likable and disliked in equal measures. I would have given more stars but the ending was so easily discernable you could see it coming for a while, which was a shame as more could have been made of the ending.

Matt phones park rangers saying he thinks his wife is dead. His first wife died in mysterious circumstances too. Awkward or what?
Detectives Loren and Spengler want to know if Matt is an unlucky husband or a killer.
This is a Police procedural novel. As twisty as a snake which I loved, but not so much the crude language.
I thought the story was smart while a tad unbelievable in parts.
The intensity of this novel is maintained throughout.
For me housework eating cooking and life was pushed aside as I could not put it down racing forward to find the ending. I had sympathy and disgust for the characters at the same time.
Overall I found it kept my interest and I would personally recommend it.

As Long As We Both Shall Live is cleverer than most thrillers, it had me hooked straight away! I thought I'd figured it all out a few times but there's some big twists! Dark and witty.
