Heidi Perks' latest novel, "Come Back For Me," is a gripping thriller that explores the aftermath of a tragic incident that occurred on a small island community. The story follows the lives of two families who are intertwined through their shared history, secrets, and lies.
The book is told from the perspective of three different characters: Stella, a young mother who has recently moved to the island with her husband and son; Jack, a police officer who is investigating the incident; and the mysterious person responsible for the tragedy. Perks' writing is vivid and immersive, drawing the reader into the tense atmosphere of the island and keeping them on edge as the plot unfolds.
The characters are well-developed and realistic, each with their own flaws and motivations. Stella is a sympathetic protagonist, struggling to come to terms with her past and navigate the complex relationships on the island. Jack is a complex and nuanced character, torn between his duty as a police officer and his personal connections to the families involved.
Overall, "Come Back For Me" is a compelling and thought-provoking read that will keep readers guessing until the very end. However, the pacing can be slow at times, and the resolution of the mystery may leave some readers feeling unsatisfied.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book, I continued guessing all of the way through. A perfect 'but who did it, page turner'
If you like to play detective, read this book! Easy reading and great story.
Come back for me by Heidi Parks.
A DEADLY DISCOVERY.
AN ISLAND WRAPPED IN SECRETS.
A tiny community is stunned when long-buried body is found. For Stella Harvey the news is doubly shocking. The body has been uncovered in the garden of her childhood home - the home her family fled without explanation twenty-five years ago.Desperate to unearth the truth, Stella returns to the isolated island. But the community she left isn’t as welcoming as she remembers – and people will go to any length to protect their secrets. One thing rings true…You can’t bury the truth forever.
Although a great read with believable characters. I didn't like the two timelines 1993 and present day as I kept getting muddled. Apart from that it did have me guessing until the end. 3and a half stars
A good, gripping read, Having never read this author before I wasnt sure what to expect, but I will definitely be reading more!
Come Back For Me was a really engaging and addictive read, about family secrets, a tight knit community and family ties.
Brilliant unusual read. Set in two timescales this will have you gripped from the start. The consequences that result from hidden secrets
A fantastic read, totally gripping. I read it in one sitting. Lots of twists and turns and full of tension.; Can't wait for more from the author!
This book was an enjoyable read and one I got through in just a few days. The premise was good and I could see the story unfold through the character's eyes. I'm not giving it 5 stars because I feel like the end wasn't as well thought through as the beginning. It seemed rushed and predictable, which is a shame. Still worth a read though!
Heidi Perks has done it again.
Another unputdownable, addictive read.
One stormy night, Stella and her family left their island home. Stella never knew why and now, many years later, a body has been found close to that home.
I found all the characters to be unlikeable and the plot to be very drawn out - not for me sadly!
A huge thanks to Random House UK & NetGalley for gifting me a copy in return for an open & honest review.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

Heidi Perks has written a cracker here. Long hidden secrets, childhood memories, a creepily claustrophobic setting. Very readable.
I've read Heidi Perks' Her One Mistake before but honestly wasn't blown away but the writing style and suspense that book had gave me hope for future books by her. I read the synopsis of this one and immediately thought I knew exactly how this book would go. I'm big enough to admit I was wrong!
This book had me sure a few times that I knew what was going on and it would pull me in a different direction. My favourite thing about this is that every twist felt real and believable and I could totally understand why I hadn't seen it coming, nothing was too far fetched.
I also adore how this ended. I always worry going into mystery thrillers that everything pans out perfectly but this doesn't exactly do that. Such a refreshing take.
I cant wait to read more from Heidi Perks in future!
While this book I don't think for me had anything too inherently wrong with it its not a full 5 star from me. Feels more like a 4.5/5 Stars
With thanks to Netgalley and Random house uk
Come back for me is an all rounded thriller/mystery book that kept me and will keep the reader guessing, plenty of twists and turns.
I have to admit I struggled with this book. The story is very long winded and could probably have been told in less pages. The round up at the end was good, just a shame it took so long to get there.
Wow, this book had me gripped with all the twists and turns. I read it in one go, breaking to eat and even then I wolfed down my food so I could pick it up again. All the characters were believable and fitted well into the story, the plot flowed and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
Loved it!
Imagine remembering halcyon days on your childhood home, an beautiful island that is something straight out of an Enid Blyton mystery. Imagine remembering been torn out of that home and never really knowing why. Then imagine a body found practically in your old back garden. What would you think? Stella Harvey doesn't know what to think but her mind keeps going to the unthinkable. But she has to know now how the body is and why they left so suddenly.
There's enough suspense in this to keep any thriller fan happy. There's more than one mystery to solve and the writer knows exactly how to pace the story out. Heidi Perks is a writer to watch.
I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Going back and forth between two timelines: 1993 and the present, the story remained steadily-paced, slowing unravelling the secrets and lies of the families and the island.
I was hooked!
All the characters were very cleverly-written, all mysterious and unnerving in their own way. I honestly had no clue who was responsible. It could of been any of them! And the reveal was still quite shocking!
With plenty of excellent twists and turns, a tightly-wrapped plot and an ending that both shocked and saddening me as I didn't want it to end!
A must read!
Secrets and lies. My favourite type of book!
Imagine as a child fleeing your isolated island and never going back. Fast forward 25 years and a body is dug up on that island. From your old home.......
absolutely loved this. Love Heidi Perks full stop.
5/5 on Amazon and goodreads.
A local community is stunned when long-buried body is found and no one more so than Stella Harvey because it’s in the garden of her childhood home, the home in Evergreen that at the age of 11, she and her family suddenly fled without explanation some twenty-five years ago.
Desperate to know the truth, Stella comes back to the place she once knew as home on the isolated island. However, the community she left isn’t the quite as she remembered and it certainly is not as welcoming. What do they have to hide?
The book splits between two time lines and they interchange quite a bit. We go back to 1993 and then hop forward to the present day. As we go back and forth, we are thrown some plot twists, a few light truths and one or two tit bits of Information that I wasn’t expecting to come across.
Gripping and really well written!
