My Granddaughter loves to draw and loves animals so this was surely the book for her. We went through the book and she immediately started drawing what she saw. I even tried a few. This is a great step by step guide for even the artistic challenged like me. This will definitely go into my Granddaughters group of art books. Would be nice for a crafter of needlework, painting or woodwork too.

The illustrations are bright and colorful, they provide you with easy to follow step by step instructions. I already have a few of these in my classroom library, can't wait to add this one as well.

We loved this book. This book shows you how to make cute and interesting creatures from letters and numbers. You are given step-by-step instructions making it very helpful when making your own drawings. You can use the ideas they give you then you can add what you want to make it your own. It can even inspire you to create your own things through your own imagination. Early learners and artists will enjoy this book, but others will enjoy it too. This is a great book with wonderful ideas and illustrations. We recommend it for a fun learning activity.

Before I retired I was a teacher, and I would have loved to have had this book in my classroom. I have no doubt it would have been one of my students favorites. As it turns out I still get to share it with my favorite person in this great big world of ours. Which just happens to be my grandson, who just so happens to love to draw. The whole concept of turning numbers into these super cute AlphaToons was extremely appealing and kept him engaged for hours. So much so that I've already purchased his second art book of the summer. And one last tidbit before I close. His little girlfriend adored the many pictures he drew for her.

I loved this book. I got out my pencil and drew along with the author. The illustrations are outstanding and fun. They have bright colors and great facial expressions.

The author breaks down the art of drawing animals out of numbers or letters. He makes it simple and goes step by step so that it is easy to follow along.

I am amazed at what can be made starting with simple numbers and letters. I can’t wait to show this book to my grandson. It is sure to provide an afternoon of joy and laughter as we create Alphatoons ourselves.

Possibly one of the cutest how to draw books I have seen in a while. It is great to use with children who say they have no imagination as the outlines are already there for them and they just need to add details. Also has been great to teach drawing skills and for those with special needs as they love turning letters and numbers into animals.

Fun to share on a rainy weekend with the grandchildren. They created lively stories and were able to illustrate them too.

What a great fun book with hidden benefits. This is a brilliant way to help children to remember numbers (especially good for children who are dyslexic or have other focus related challenges). More importantly the drawings are really appealing and accessible to all abilities. The instructions are so easy to follow and the book is bursting with colour, inspiration and fun. What an excellent book, thank you.

Although I never learned how to draw, I have always had the desire to put pencil to paper and create. Unfortunately, all the books in my collection (i.e., way too many) never got me past the stick figure or the dog I learned to draw in 4th grade. But then I discovered Steve Harpster! With his method, you take a number or a letter to start and from there go on to create all sorts of animals, birds, fish, and even people. He provides step by step illustrations and shows each next step in a different color, making it easy to spot what you need to do next. When I try one of his drawings, I actually feel like I can draw because I can create and complete the picture. While it may not be as perfect as Steve’s, it is a lot further than I have ever gotten with any other drawing book.

Alphatoons is big collection, containing more than 130 different things to draw, all with step-by-step illustrations. There is such an extensive array of things to create, from the usual dog, cat, pig, mouse, and lion to the more unconventional, such as the roach, tarantula, gerbil, ferret, and newt. Also, there are a lot of different people doing different things or as different characters to try your hand at.

Don’t let the marketing fool you.... these books are not just for kids! I am decades past my formative years and cannot get enough of Harpster’s books! For once, I feel like maybe I really can draw!

A lovely book to keep the kids focused and entertained whilst also learning numbers and letters. Whilst reviewing this book, the kid inside of me just couldn't help herself but draw many of the animals! A five star book from start to finish.

Pros: This book is a must for those of us that interact with children. I get the chance to do children’s programs periodically, and I always fail to make figures that are noticeable. We all have a good laugh, but I at least want to know how to do the basics. Well, this book is it! Yes, learn how to draw using everyday numbers and letters. A great tool and resource for parents, teachers, and kids alike.

Cons: None! This will be in my arsenal so I can practice often.

Draw AlphaToons is a step by step tutorial drawing guide aimed at all ages. The premise is to start with letters and numbers and add lines and squiggles and wind up with a cartoon-style line drawing at the end. Author/cartoonist Steve Harpster has a really witty and fun style and the intermediate steps in the tutorials are -really- easy to recreate.

Due out 17th June 2019 from Impact it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. The eARC version has a handy interactive table of contents and links section. The tutorials and illustrations are printed in color (blue) with each step highlighted in a different color (red) which makes them easier to recreate.

Although the art and style is appealing to a younger readership, these are perfectly suited to grownups who appreciate their whimsy and simplicity. I have used these doodles in my own journals and confess to drawing some in long meetings (oops!). Although not specifically stated, these would also be excellent teaching tools for teachers in a classroom setting since each tutorial starts with a letter or number.

Would make a really nice gift, classroom library, or homework book.

Really enjoyed this one.

I've been sketching animals ever since I picked this up. Cute little cartoon styled ones. This really is a great book because it helps learning numbers and letters while giving kids a way to interact and draw different things around the letters and numbers. I think the entire series has been a lot of fun so far.

My children have had several drawing books over the years and have really enjoyed them. This one was no different. The artist goes over the process step by step and makes it easy for kids or adults of any skill level to follow along. At the same time, the kids are also working on their alphabet letters. To me, that’s the best thing about these art books... the kids learn many different types of things!
