I don't know what it was about this one, but I feel like I should have liked it better than I did. Part of it might be because Layla and Xavier weren't part of the core group and part of it might be because I'm not a fan of she/he's too good for me, I better not start anything with them or if I did I better break up for with them for their own good. Layla gave Xavier lots of chances, he just kept throwing them away. It was only when Layla was in trouble that Xavier got serious about her.
I think the best part of this one was Xavier's grandmother having a chat with him towards the end. It was just what the boy needed to hear.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy thru Net Gallery of Chasing Vengeance .
I really enjoyed this outstanding story . It's one of those you're on the edge just hanging on intense
pulse pounding stories ! Xavier is a Hitman for both the CIA and contract . He has deep feelings for Layla but he feels she's much to good for him do to his career choices and the danger a relationship would pose . Layla is a school teacher that's had a unhappy childhood and very dangerous past relationship . she also has deep feelings for Xavier but is stuck in the friends zone because she doesn't think he is attracted to her . Danger comes a knocking and Xavier with the help of the Redemption Harbor crew must protect and keep Layla safe . If you want to know if Layla and Xavier's relationship develops into more than friends I highly recommend reading . this is full of action , Intrigue , sexy times , suspense ,and fantastic characters . a definate 5 star read !
This is the final book in the Redemption Harbor series and features Nova's best friend, Layla who was saved by the team previously, and Axel's friend, Xavier. After meeting at Axel's wedding, Layla and Xavier became friends. Friends who text, facetime, and get together when he is in town.
Layla is attracted to him, but tries not to let it show. Xavier has it bad for her, but he hides it. He is not who Layla thinks he is and knows he is not good enough for her. She has already escaped one dangerous ex and he cares enough not to want to put her in danger due to his own activities.
Layla is sweet, caring, and just getting back on her feet. She already has some deep self worth issues, and rejection only exacerbates them. Xavier is sexy, funny, and intelligent. He just has one really big secret. A secret that makes him feel unworthy of love or a future, and that secret keeps him from going after what he really wants. Well, it stops him until he just cannot take it anymore and slips. He runs hot and cold. He pushes her away then pulls her back in. He confuses and hurts her feelings, and makes her angry.
But when his biggest fear comes true and she seems to be a target, he will need to pull her in close. Despite how volatile their friendship/relationship has become, he is the man who vows to keep her safe one way or another. But they are going to need some help figuring out who is coming after them.
This installment has friendship, romance, steam, danger, and suspense. I liked this couple and how they both had their strengths and weaknesses, but balanced each other well. They both had reasons to feel not good enough, but together they had great potential. Sometimes the world is not black and white, and it shows the importance of acceptance, forgiveness, and priorities. It brings back the whole Redemption Harbor crew. I love this group and how they take care of each other and bring new people into the fold. I am sad to see this series go, but all of the main characters have found their mates and she wraps it up nicely in an epilogue.
Review will go live on blog and social media on release and links will go live and be updated at that time
This is book 7 in the Redemption Harbor Security series and while it can be read as a stand alone, I would at least read book 5 before this one as it introduces us to Layla and you see exactly what happened to her. Layla has moved to Redemption Harbor to be closer to her best friend and to start over after what happened. Xavier is a hit man and is friends with Axel and meets Layla at Axel's wedding. They are friends but there is also a lot of chemistry although Xavier is doing his best to stay away from Layla, but only to keep her safe. But when he see's her with another man, he realizes that he can't stay away. Until someone goes after her. Now he will do anything and everything to keep her safe.
I absolutely loved most of this book. The only drawback for me was at times Xavier seemed to be a little too wishy washy. I understand why, I just didn't necessarily like it. But I would give it a solid 4.5 stars! On a whole, Xavier is this alpha male who has a code that he lives by. And he does what he thinks is best for the people he cares about. Regardless of it is accurate or what they want. Btw, I loved his Abuela!! Layla has been through a lot in her young life, but she has come through the other side stronger than ever! She knows not only what she wants out of her life, but what she needs in order to be happy. And they have some seriously HOT chemistry! I loved them together, and the fact that they were friends before anything else. They know each other and can understand what the other is thinking or feeling to a point because of that. I hate to see this series end, but at least it ended on a high note and we got to see the rest of the characters and know that everyone got their HEA's!
CHASING. VENGEANCE. Katie Reus Redemption Series
Layla was attracted to Xavier and he was now back in town. Her taste in men have been garbage, should she heed Skye advice, that he was dangerous.
Xavier thought she was perfect, resilient after what she has been through.
Sex and friendship all it could be, his hands were too bloodstained, being he is with the CIA and kills for a living. When she is driven off the road, was it his past or the past dealings of her ex that was behind it, and wanting to kill her. Redemption Agency is called in to figure it out, while Layla and Xavier are on the run, He wanted to retire, and protect her, and even more if possible. Fast action in this final story.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and KR Press
What a ride for a series finale! This is a suspense filled romance that keeps you wondering what's next. Xavier is in total denial that a life with Layla is possible. When his past brings big trouble he goes into protection mode. Loved the ending!
Chasing Vengeance might be the last in the Redemption Harbor series and if so the Katie Reus puts out a great book from start to finish.
Katie Reus has a formula when writing a series that will work for some and others might not pick up on it unless they read her series back to back. The character likable with a tragic backstory that keeps readers wanting them to find the romance and spark that brings them back to life. Layla and Xavier are no different. The sexual tension is off the charts. Readers will be able to connect with Layla and her straight forward no bars way of handling romance.
Katie Reus is able to write action scenes that come straight out of the movies. Keeping readers enjoying the ride. All the characters from the different books are in book 7 bringing the stories to a closure if the author wants.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Author for advance copy of Katie Reus Chasing Vengeance.
Why 4 1\2 stars our of 5. Read the books back to back and you will see.
This is the final story of the Redemption Harbour Series. Xavier has history as a hit man but is looking to retire and hooking up with old buddies at Redemption Harbour. He is holding back on his relationship with Layla as his past may catch up with them. This is a fast paced story with you rooting for Layla to finally get her man but with plenty of enemies waiting to stop her. You will want to check out the other stories in the series to follow your favourite characters.
I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Another great addition, with a very unique plot, to the Redemption Harbor series by Ms. Reus. This is Layla’s story who we met in Hunting Danger (Book #5). Layla’s luck with men has been dismal at best, but she is now safe from her ex-fiancé and no longer needs protection. She has moved to Redemption Harbor and enjoys time with her BFF Nova. Nova, her husband Gage and his team at Redemption Harbor Consulting are responsible for her ability to start her new life. Into this life comes mysterious Xavier, who is gone for weeks at a time with his investment business. Is there more to his time away? She is very attracted to him, but he claims they can only be friends. Xavier does want much more with Layla, but his true profession puts anyone he is involved with in danger…he is a hitman! Was it a random event when Layla is forced off the road and nearly killed? Xavier knows he has to protect her as he feels certain that this attack was aimed at hurting him. A roller coaster of emotions as they deal with the danger, their desire and his profession. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Another winner in the Redemption Harbor series! Layla's wildly attracted to Xavier but she's getting whiplash from his changing moods. One minute he seems to want her and the next they're just friends. What she doesn't know is that Xavier is a hit man for the CIA and for hire. He doesn't want her to get hurt because he has some powerful enemies, but he just can't let her go. When someone tries to kill her he realizes that he'll do anything to keep her safe even if it means losing her. Lots of romantic suspense and action!
I've had the pleasure of reading several of the books in this series, and while Gage and Nova's is my favorite, this one comes in a close second. I really liked both Layla and Xavier a lot, and I stayed riveted to their story. I'm sad to see the series end, but now that it has, I'll do what I've been planning since I came in mid-series: I'll go back and read them all in order for the full effect. I hope the author revisits this wonderful group in a follow-up story at some point.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for generously providing an ARC for review.
Layla has been through the ringer. First in foster care after her drug addicted mother overdosed, then she was engaged to a murder, now she has someone after her. Xavier is an assassin and has fallen for Layla but doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. As the team tries to figure out who tried to kill Layla, Xavier realizes it has something to do with him. So as they try to find out, they put Layla in hiding until they are found and have to run again. Xavier says he’ll leave after she is out of danger but she’s in love with him but won’t beg him to stay. Will Layla be able to handle what Xavier was or will he lose the love of his life?
End of an awesome series. Suspense, sex, and killers. Action that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This story takes you back to Redemption Harbor for the last book in the series. This is Layla and Xavier’s story. Layla is a teacher who is attracted to sexy hit man Xavier. Someone has a score to settle with Xavier and they are targeting his loved ones.
This book is a romance filled with suspense and danger. I loved going back to Redemption Harbor and visiting the characters again, tho this book could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Final book in the Redemption Harbor series. It was a great series and this one ties it up nicely. Layla and Xavier are a great couple and it starts with them already in lust with each other. They get into trouble with someone from Xavier’s past coming after them so they go on the run together. It was a little predictable through out so not many surprises. Some action and sexy times with our h/h.
The epilogue wraps the series up nice with our first couple Colt and Skye tying it up. Looking forward to what is next from Katie Reus.
Bittersweet!
The perfect ending to an amazing series that I am sad to see end. Xavier and Layla have a fast paced story with lots of heart.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
I have enjoyed all of the books that I've read in the, Redemption Harbor, series. They work together cohesively to get the job done. I am happy that Layla got her happily ever after.
