This book has been crafted beautifully. Right from the start, the layout is clean and easy to understand and navigate without being overwhelming. Abbreviations are explained at the start so that you don't feel daunted when you reach the pattern. The photos are beautifully styled and each pattern is accompanied by a whole collection of both instructional photos and final photos so that you can see what you are making from all angles. This is a beautiful book and I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in knitting.

If I had to describe KNITTED ANIMAL FRIENDS by Louise Crowther in just two words they would be gorgeous heirlooms. KNITTED ANIMAL FRIENDS is a meticulously well thought out construction book on how to knit the most beautiful friendly animals. It includes detailed well written knitting instructions for thirteen assorted animals. In 130 pages Louise Crowther crams in quite a lot of information and instruction for almost any level of knitter.
In deciding whether or not to purchase a craft based book I go by my first impression of how many items I would actually want to make. Quite a different story with KNITTED ANIMAL FRIENDS which presents an instant dilemma trying to choose which to do first. At a price of less than $2 per animal pattern completely dressed this book should be on all knitters and crafters bookshelf.
Louise Crowther supplies a basic pattern for all the animals bodies, arms and legs and then details for contrasting foot pads and special coloring for chests.
Then we move onto the animals whose faces are divine and classic with discrimination between various types of ears, noses, snouts and eyes.
And Louise Crowther’s patterns for the clothes rival anything I’ve seen for dolls or childrens wear.
Now the hard part deciding which is my favorite and which to make first. George the Dog in jeans, pullover and scarf is beyond cute and well-constructed it immediately stopped me in my tracks. But as a reviewer I had to move along.
You know the expression the clothes make the man well substitute mouse for man and you are describing Dorothy the Mouse with her ruffled sweater, picot edged shrug, capri pants and Maryjane shoes.
But wait till you meet Harry the Ram – love at first sight. With the articulated texture for his body and head, ram horns it is almost a shame to dress him. But he is plenty dapper in his sailor pullover with cargo shorts and shoes.
In KNITTED ANIMAL FRIENDS Louise Crowther includes a dedicated section on shoes and shorts and finishing techniques for making the parts of the animals. She even includes instructions on various casting on methods, shaping and seams.
All and all KNITTED ANIMAL FRIENDS is a one book text on how to make some marvelous stuffed animal friends for any age.

This was a comprehensive and adorable collection of knitted animals which would be good for any intermediate or advanced knitter. These would be perfect for an artsy home or a child's room and each design has its own personality. A great addition to a knitting library!

A charming collection of toy animals! This book is lovely, with sweet illustrations and well photographed toy animals. The patterns are well written and easy to follow. Advanced knitters looking for a new challenge would appreciate this book.

These animal patterns are sure to be loved by kids of all ages. Adorable clothing and shoes, I cannot wait to get to work on them all. Patterns are extremely detailed with many pictures included, guiding our stitches exactly so finished projects will be flawless. All of these animals could be made again and again in varying colors. Would make amazing baby shower gifts.

A very attractively presented book that includes 13 knitting patterns for cuddly animals. Each animal is 40 cm (16inches) tall and they all share the same basic body, arms and legs. Each animal has its own wardrobe, but these can easily be mixed and matched.
The patterns are clearly set out, with plenty of photos illustrating the techniques used. There is a lovely attention to detail in all the patterns, especially the wonderful clothes and shoes. Techniques include lace, cables and intarsia. As such, I would say that the patterns are suitable for advanced beginners who are confident with written patterns.
This is a delightful book that can't help but appeal.

A beautifully presented book of animal friends to knit. They all share the same basic body shape so once you have mastered one the others should be quick to finish. Each animal has his or her own personality and wardrobe, but these can be mixed and matched to suit the recipient. These adorable animals look as much fun to knit as they will be to play with!

The projects are very clear and everything you need to know is there. Lovely finished animals that can make great gifts. It isn’t necessarily a book for beginners but it isn’t so advanced that a confident beginner couldn’t pick up.
