A lovely biographical story of a man and his beloved garden. More than that, though, it is a story of a life, a family, of love and joy, of hardship and sorrow, of the pleasures of hard work and simple comforts. The bright, cheerful illustrations compliment the text well, and the songs, poems, and scripture sprinkled throughout add an extra bit of depth to the story. How I wish I could've seen Arthur's garden!

What a lovely memoir and so very well written! I will use this book to show students how it is done.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.
I absolutely adored this book. We meet Arthur who inherits his garden, and his home, from his late father Tom. Tom & Emily raised Arthur and his 10 siblings, the garden being the heart of the home, bringing them food when they needed it and comfort too. We travel through many decades with Arthur, and it is such a lovely journey.
"...One is nearer God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth."
A charming, touching read! Full of life's joys and sorrows, the story of Arthur and his garden brought feelings of nostalgia to this reader, as I recalled my grandfather working in his little back garden. I loved following the life of Arthur and his family through the years, as they added new loved ones and lost others. I shed tears and rejoiced with them along the way. The gentle telling of historical events that affected them moved the story along. It was endearing how they cared for each other. It felt like I was reading a journal with snippets of poetry, verses and special songs to bring a meaningful pause between chapters. Arthur's simple faith added hope and inspiration to the story.
Overall a lovely, gentle quick read. Recommend!
A beautifully written story filled with love and memories of a family past. A gentle read for those with a love of gardening and prose. Little poems and rhymes with words of wisdom and hope fill the pages , interwoven with characters loved and lost and the trials of family life.
This book sings with happiness and cry’s with sorrow mixed with the love of gardening and the peace that moments of solitude can bring.
A sweet and heartwarming book about a family and their long love of tending their garden. People and their hearts needs to be tended just as carefully.
