Autumn Bishop spilt up with her billionaire boyfriend Hunter Lee because he didn’t want children. He is still her best friend. Imagine her surprise when he turned up on her doorstep with his baby son Eli, the result of a one night stand after they broke up. He is to look after Eli for 3 months whilst his mother goes away to college and is asking for her help!
I know this is a novel but if this had happened to me he would have got a short shrift. I feel that Autumn is too good natured and basically a walkover. The pair wee in love but split because she wanted babies and he didn’t. As they look after Eli they slowly analyse where and why their relationship went wrong the first time whilst Hunter realises what he had lost and has to work hard to win back.
I received this novel from Mills & Boon via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
So they broke up because he did not want a family. I suppose that could be ok but what right has he then, to turn up on her door step asking for help with his son, the result of a one night stand?! Im afraid our heroine is much better natured than I as she took h8m in and helped. I know they will probably get together in the end but I just was bored with the story!
Therese Beharrie has firmly established herself as an autobuy for me and her books are all keepers. This one is no exception. Emotional with well-rounded, believable characters, I enjoyed this romance very much.
Thank you to Mill & Boon Insiders and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An emotional rollercoaster of a book which was filled with so much emotion. When Hunter shows up on Autumn's doorstep in the middle of the night with the news that he is a father with a woman that he had a one night stand with, this causes both Hunter and Autumn to look at their past relationship and where it went wrong, With a lot of soul searching from both Hunter and Autumn throughout this story it delves into how past experiences can impact on the person you become. I loved the romance and really felt like I was behind them both and hoping for the happy ever after!
Oh my... How would you feel if the man you love who broke up with you because he doesnt want a family with you, turns up at your door and ask for your help in raising his son. Man oh man. This is more reality than fantasy. I love every seconds of reading this book
This was only my second Therese Beharrie book and I enjoyed it a lot, but I think the first one, Second Chance With Her Billionaire, was just that bit better so I was constantly comparing this to that one and that meant I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I might. It was still a really good book and I was wholly invested and wanted to give Autumn a big old hug on basically every other page because she was hurting, but the angst of the first book was stronger somehow. But me saying this doesn’t match up to the first is me just saying it was really good rather than amazing because that bar was set quite high.
I think it was the baby element that might have taken it down that notch. Or it could be the fact that the break-up reasons were way more Hunter’s fault and I got my back up a little that he then turned to Autumn for help when kids were one of the reasons the two split. I mean it did lead to an epic amount of emotional angst that was so satisfying to read as the two slowly worked through their issues but having your back up at the start of a book can occasionally lead to you thinking a little less kindly of some characters. Hunter won me over in the end, but that man had to work for it much like he did with winning Autumn over so I suppose he’d romanced us both by the end of the book hadn’t he? That just shows Therese Beharrie skill that I came out at the end having really enjoyed the book and love the ending.
Hunter and Autumn are so good together and they both had their issues to unpack which stopped them being able to be a successful couple. Autumn needed to work on accepting herself and not doubting the opinions of those around her and that they actually cared. And Hunter had both daddy issues and a huge amount t of grief and guilt to deal with and had no place being in a relationship when he had that to contend with. But the two had had a relationship and it ended badly. Hunter was too scared to commit and give Autumn the family and future she wished and Autumn found she couldn't keep twisting herself up trying to please Hunter and give him what she thought he wanted. But she also couldn't expect him to love her when she didn't love herself and allow others to love her without her doubting them. Like I said they had issues. But they worked through them using their words… and raising a baby together (sort of, the actual mom honestly is in the picture but you really should read to get the details on that). Them working together to help Hunter be a good dad and get over some of his issues meant that they also worked through their issues for why their relationship didn’t work in the first place.
This book did really well in making me care for the characters. Autumn and Hunter got together at the wrong time and they broke up for the wrong reasons but this baby coming into their life? It totally brought them together. I may have hated that Hunter’s first instinct when finding out he had a surprise baby was to call Autumn which was gutting to her as she so wanted kids, but also the fact that his first instinct was to do that really says everything. He loved her and when something major happened she was the first person he wanted to turn to for help. It was a book with a whole heap of angst, I mean, a lot, and so I looked away a lot because damn I hurt for them both, but I was smiling by the end and that’s the important part really
From Heiress to Mum is the second book in the Billionaires for Heiresses series by Therese Beharrie.
Hunter Lee and Autumn were very much in love but they broke up because she wanted children and he didn't. He has a very good reason for not wanting them, but he won't even entertain ways around that reason. So they had to break up but managed to remain friends.
A year later after a very distraught time at her parent's anniversary, Hunter arrives at her house with the shocking news that he is a father! He had a one night stand when they broke up and has just found out that a baby came from that occasion. The mother wants to go away to study for 3 months and with nobody else to turn to she asks Hunter to have his son.
He agrees but freaks out and asks Autumn to help him. Always wanting to please people and being as she still has feelings for him, she agrees. It might crush her spirit, seeing him with a baby, but she wants to be there for him.
What follows next is how they both come to terms with the things that kept them apart from each other. Will they kiss and make up or is there too much water under the bridge.
Did I like this story, it was OK. I found parts of it unbelievable, such as how a man who broke up with the love of his life would then go on to have a one night stand in which he doesn't use contraception. He broke up with Autumn because she wanted children and he desperately didn't, so no matter how drunk he got I can't believe he would have unprotected sex.
Then when he finds out he is a father, how does Hunter have the gall to ask his ex to help him?
Also, why would the baby's mother after only having a one night stand with Hunter happily leave the baby with him for 3 months?
The story, as I said was OK, but there was just too much angst and unbelievable parts for me to really enjoy it.
I really struggled with this book, it sounded so positive in the reviews but it turned out to really be not for me
The story starts with Hunter knocking on his ex girlfriends, Autumn, door in the middle of the night to confess that he has had a baby with another woman. Part of the reason he broke up with Autumn was because he didn't want a family making this very difficult for her.
They seem to have settled into some kind of "friendship" but I personally found it to be more Hunter needing Autumn and being unable to let her go. Hunter is very self centred and puts himself and his needs above anyone else's. It took me at least 11 chapters to actually warm to Hunter as a character and by that point I was getting annoyed with Autumn!
They both kept things so bottled up that it made them very difficult people to connect with for me, party because they made me look into myself a lot which isn’t easy. I think my favourite character was Eli, the baby!
This book would be good for you if you enjoy a lot of emotions, personal dramas and dynamics. It isn't "traditional" for the True Love style of relatively safe stories thanks to its heavy emotions for each of the characters but it can still capture the reader. I would love to read more of Therese’s work as I’m sure my perfect book from her is out there
A good story, full of emotions and entertaining. The book is well written, the characters fleshed out, and the plot engaging.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
