My first read by this author and will give the next in the series a try. Great storyline idea but the number of characters sometimes made it confusing to keep up with the story arc
Absolutely fantastic story - I can't wait to read more by Jane Adams! If you are looking for a gripping thriller of a read, that doesn't give any secrets away, then I recommend this!
I think that the students in our school library need to hear lots of diverse voices and read stories and lives of many different kinds of people and experiences. When I inherited the library it was an incredibly sanitised space with only 'school readers' and project books on 'the railways' etc. Buying in books that will appeal to the whole range of our readers with diverse voices, eclectic and fascinating subject matter, and topics that will intrigue and fascinate them was incredibly important to me.
This is a book that I think our senior readers will enjoy very much indeed - not just because it's well written with an arresting voice that will really keep them reading and about a fascinating topic - but it's also a book that doesn't feel worthy or improving, it doesn't scream 'school library and treats them like young reading adults who have the right to explore a range of modern diverse reads that will grip and intrigue them and ensure that reading isn't something that they are just forced to do for their English project - this was a solid ten out of ten for me and I'm hoping that our students are as gripped and caught up in it as I was. It was one that I stayed up far too late reading and one that I'll be recommending to the staff as well as our senior students - thank you so much for the chance to read and review; I really loved it and can't wait to discuss it with some of our seniors once they've read it too!
Suspenseful and entertaining.
The Secrets is about Eric and his family. They have just moved into their home and begin receiving threatening phone calls, smashed windows and then there is murder.
The characters are well-written and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Great story and one I highly recommend.
How could a respectable family become the focus of such hatred? Detective Inspector Mike Croft knows the Pearson family well. Eric Pearson claims to own a journal which gives evidence of a horrifying ring of abusers. If true, it would be a high stakes case for DI Croft, and expose awful secrets that the town has buried deep. But no one wants to believe the dark conspiracies of this friendless and bitter man. Then a body is found on the edge of Bright’s Wood, wrapped in a black bag. DI Croft must confront evil which threatens to rip apart everyone in the community.
The subject of child abuse is delicately and sensitively handled. The plot is well written, with suspense and police procedural details. It deals with issues prevalent in the nineties, as they are today. The pacing is good and the story flows well, making it easy to read.
I like how Mike's character is developing and the insight into his personal life. I also love Price I think the two make up a very effective team and I love the humour Price brings to the book.
The Secrets was received as an ARC by Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book. It had some steamy scenes and was truly enjoyable. it will make you think about the secrets that people are willing to keep no matter what the cost. And that some secrets can cost you everything. Hope to read more by this author
One of my new favorite books! This author has such a way with words the pages flew by in no time! I can’t wait to see the next work by this author! This was such a joy to read!
I love all things by this author. I have always bee pleases with the plot and the thrill of the next page. Thank you for approving this title for me. Keep them coming
A fantastic read and every bit the page-turner. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for this author. Definitely one I will be one-clicking in the future.
This book was a real edge of seat thriller, taut and twisty, and as cliche as it sounds, I was holding my breath at times! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What exactly does Eric know that makes someone want to threaten him and the family? This book was like walking a tightrope. One wrong move or turn and you fall. This book was filled was so many surprises and twists that I wasn't sure I would make it through the end without pulling out my hair or screaming at the pages. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.
Secrets. Everyone has them. But would someone kill for them? DI Croft has his work cut out for him this time. He needs to bring secrets to light in order to find the killer.
This was an enjoyable book fo me and I thank Joffe Books and NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I got this book from NetGalley, but I did not realize that it was part of a series. I will have to go back and read the first book in the series.
DI Mike Croft is a dedicated, likeable detective, with a tragic past, which makes him empathise with the crime victims he comes into contact with. Croft works with the other characters in his unofficial team to solve his latest investigation into a child abuse ring. This is a sensitive subject but handled well by the author. Corruption and a cover-up are suspected, but difficult to prove.
The plot is well written, with suspense and police procedural details. Set in the late 1990s, the retro element gives it another layer of authenticity and interest. There are many strands to the investigation, which all become connected as the story progresses. It deals with issues prevalent in the nineties, as they are today. The pacing is good and the story flows well, making it easy to read.
I received a copy of this book from Joffe Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I loved this book and would highly recommend it to all. It has a great story line, brilliant main characters and is a real page turner. I couldn't put this book down.
Fast-paced thriller which hooked me from the start. Read as a stand alone book, but I’d like to read the series.
This is the second book in the Detective Croft series, but can be read as a stand alone book.
This book is a bit slow to start with but the action soon picks up and I got into it really quickly after that point.
The story follows DI Croft as he investigates the claims that there is a pedophile ring in the area. The person making these claims is being harassed by his nieghbours as our his family.
It’s a brilliant police procuderal book with loads of twists, which kept me guessing.
I really liked both streams in the story and it kept me hooked throughout
A story about family and Neighborhoods, but also sexual abuse, murder and vigilante justice. The Secrets is the second book in a series, however it is perfectly fine as a stand alone read. I enjoyed the book and look forward to see some of the characters again.
From the opening page this book has you in its grips....
When a family moves into a quiet close the neighbours are on alert something is not quite right but the truth about the father is yet to be realised
Highly recomended
Wow! Not for the faint hearted , this book is hard to read at times as you really do not want to picture what is happening. It is so well written and understated that you just feel uncomfortable without any “in your face” details . The story is captivating and really throws you in the middle of the neighbourhood, like a fly on the wall. This book is different and I really enjoyed it.
