Tom and his young friend get involved in investigating a burglary ring that Tom's father (who is a police captain) has been trying to solve for a while. Tom recognizes a kid in a photo as someone who goes to his school and the kids eventually figure out what's going on. The story is fine but this is clearly meant for younger readers and I don't think this is the message we should be sending to children, to investigate crimes on their own.

'Snitches Anonymous: Mission 1' by Carbone with art by James Christ is a graphic novel about a group of young amateur detectives looking to solve a crime.

Tom's dad is a police captain and Tom is left on his own a lot. When his dad leaves a burglary case file behind, Tom sneaks a peak. When he recognizes the suspect as a school bully, he decides to do his own investigation, and finds some help along the way.

I liked this story about a group of young crimefighters well enough, and the art is decent. I'm not sure chasing after criminals that are a bit dangerous is the right message for a grade school read, so guardians beware.

Tom, a kid with a cop dad pokes through dad's paperwork one night trying to get the scoop on a case dad is working. He recognizes one of the suspects as a jerky classmate of his who once almost got him expelled, but it turns out the suspect is actually jerky's brother, and he is in serious trouble - he's being blackmailed into helping burglarize people's homes.
Tom, along with his best friend and little sister agree to help their classmate to try and get the real villains arrested, get the brother off the hook, and somehow still manage to get their math homework done on time.

Definitely too slow-paced for me, but I think this is probably a perfect first intro to graphic novels for young readers.

It takes a lot of pages to tell the story here, and any seasoned graphic novel readers will probably wonder why this isn't about half the length. But as someone who is new to the genre, I appreciate the extra steps that will help a newer reader follow along.

The art here is vibrant and fun, and I was never confused about what was going on in any of the panels.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4, but only for quite young (under 10) readers.

I love the cover for this one.

However, unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the content. Maybe younger readers would enjoy this more. I found myself skipping through.

For some reason, it felt like I already read it before I started — not the most original.

The art reminded me of the comic books we used to have at my grandma's place when we were younger.

Standard comic for children featuring the son of a cop, his best friend, and the way he chances on proof of who's behind a wave of burglaries the police cannot solve. It looks alright (if you ignore his hair looking like a Battle of the Planets face visor), it reads alright – but alright is about all it is.

A fun graphic novel for a junior audience. The art and story are both simple and clean. I"ll be recommending this one.

Nifty

This is a cheerful and fast paced kid detective book with an engaging set of characters.

The setup is that our hero, Tom, is the son of a police captain. Dad is investigating a burglary ring and Tom recognizes one of the burglars as a bully who is causing him trouble at school. Tom decides to help catch the burglar bully on his own. But of course, it gets more complicated than that. With his gal pal Lilia and his tag along little sister the chase is afoot.

Tom and Lilia have an easy going relationship and they make a fine team. Little sis is pretty sharp and contributes more than you might expect. So the whole vibe is one of cooperation and teamwork, with no angst or grumpiness. It's like a slightly younger Hardy Boys sort of tale, and that works fine. The plot is a bit twisty, but easy enough to follow. There are chases and close calls and the like. The pace is fast, and there are some suspenseful bits. So the whole package feels like a comfy early middle grade fit.

The art is crisp and clear, with more detail and variety than you might expect. I'd be happy to put this into the hands of a new graphic novel reader who had a taste for detective adventure. I really enjoyed this. Perfect for middle graders who's into comics and mystery. The plot is easy to follow and not confusing. The characters are also adorable and the artwork is nice. It is a series I won't mind following. A fun read, overall.
