Ahhh this book had my heart from the very beginning! Beautiful storytelling, loveable characters and a hefty dose of “will they? Won’t they?” it’s a perfect recipe for a wonderfully light and lovely read. Five stars!
The Day We Meet Again is a perfect, lighthearted read for fans of Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams. A lovely romance when you least expect it, told in first person with alternating chapters between the two main characters, the stories of both characters are well-developed and both are lovable! It’s an easy read that can be read in almost one sitting as you will undoubtedly speed through the story. The book is heartfelt, and is perfect for readers that enjoy a ‘will they/won’t they?’ story where you’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat hoping that they get their happy ending.
If you met the love of your life just as you were leaving for your dream trip would you still go? This is the dilema facing Phoebe and Sam when they meet by chance at St Pancras Station. They decide to put their feelings to the test and what follows is a really lovely story of their year apart.
Beautifully written, I was invested in both their separate stories and the will they won't they element of this book. Phoebe's time in Italy made me long to be there and Sam's year of discovering his roots was sensitively covered. On the whole this was a great book.
How can so much miscommunication happen in a book themed around communicating via letters, postcards, emails and phone calls?! This book drove me wild with impatience. The year timeline also sped up and down at a moments notice which made it a little hard to follow. Especially when it ended up being 18 months roughly in total. I would recommend as an easy chilled read but it’s not a book I’d reread
Firstly, I'd like to thank Netgalley and HQ for an eARC for an honest review! I also got it on audible so that I could listen along. I absolutely loved the narrators and the voice of Phoebe (MC) reminded me of Barbara in Call the Midwife, who I loved!
This is a wonderful meet cute romance that grabbed my attention straight away. Phoebe and Sam meet at St Pancras station both heading for life changing trips when their trains are delayed. It's a love at first sight situation where they plan to meet up in a year at the same spot after they've both done what they wanted to do. I loved both their characters and enjoyed both their POVs. Everything about Phoebe's year in Europe felt like heaven. I definitely wanted to experience everything with her. All the lovely people she met who became life long friends and how much her travels changed her.
Sam was on a mission to find his long lost father in Scotland, where he grew up. The way everything felt so welcoming was lovely and I definitely want to visit Scotland one day. Both their stories run along side each other and the reader can get to know both of them separately. The last part of the book had me on the edge of my seat for so long. I kept waiting and waiting. Dickinson definitely kept us waiting until the very end and what a lovely ending it was. Life did get in the way a lot for Phoebe and Sam but they got the ending they deserved.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Are you a fan of insta-love stories? If so The Day We Meet Again might just be for you.
Phoebe and Sam’s chance meeting at St Pancreas Station could easily be deemed as fate. However meeting the potential love of your life just as you’re heading off on a year long adventure is far from perfect, especially as they are heading in the opposite direction! They both agree to go on their respective adventures and meet back at St Pancreas in exactly 1 years time. Hey if it’s meant to be, it will be!
What follows is the tale of both Sam and Phoebe’s travel adventures, introducing many brilliant characters along the way. We get to experience so many amazing places in France, Italy and Scotland and the writing really made it feel like you were there experiencing it all with them.
Of the two, I found Sam more genuine. He felt relatable, real and honest. The relationships with his friends were fantastic and I loved the banter they shared. Phoebe’s friends were equally fabulous and I particularly loved Luc and Tobi.
Overall I enjoyed the story even though I’m not a huge fan of instant love. To me that part of the story wasn’t hugely believable, however I do believe in fate and that you can have an instant connection with someone.
This was a lighthearted read about love, friendship and getting to know yourself.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher (HQ) for providing a copy of the book for review. All opinions are my own and provided willingly.
A lovely story of the travels and will they or won't they of Phoebe and Sam, great idea of doing their own thing and meeting up again after a year, a nice easy light read
This is the first book I’ve read by Miranda and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
A lovely cosy book. I will be looking for my titles by Miranda to devour..
I love the premise of this book but it just felt too frustrating, too soppy and too unrealistic. Unfortunately, I struggled to feel any connection with the characters of the storyline as they just frustrated me relentlessly.
I really enjoyed The Day We Meet Again. A chance meeting between the two main characters Phoebe and Sam leads to many twists and turns as your follow their journey, to see if they are meant to be together. Well written and easy to read with great characters.
This book was okay. I can get on with a "will they, won't they" plot but this just seemed incredibly drawn out and the instalove just didn't sit with me.
Unfortunately I had to purchase a new Kindle device and could no longer access this book. I will come back and review if I read this in the future.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
A lovely romance, heartwarming, emotional, heartbreaking and uplifting. Everything you want in a book!
It’s the witching hour right now, it’s half-past twelve and I’ve just finished this book. This book has caused the most ugliest of crying so much so I have tissue up my nose because of the snot tears….not attractive. This is how much I loved this book, how much it moved me and how much I needed this book.
This book has taught me so many things, one being when it’s right it’s right. And god is this book right!! I have taken a battering with this book not going to lie, I seriously thought my heart might break! To be honest, I think I have gone through the wringer way more than Phoebe and Sam! #justsaying not that I am drama queen or anything.
It is such a powerful novel, it’s going to be hard to discuss any of the plot without spoiling it so I won’t. The basics if you don’t know, Sam and Phoebe meet are St Pancras, trains are delayed and for 4 hours they sit and talk and fall in love. They make a pact with each other in a year to meet back on a set day and time if they want to be together. That’s all I am going to say.
I loved the journey these two went on. From being two people running away from things, to having each other when they didn’t know each other, leaning and building the version of themselves they want to be, well it’s magical. When you know, well you know. We know they know so we should all just go on our merry way. Wait….what…Miranda wants to batter and bruise us first, well I suppose if she must. Boy did she! It’s like she tore my heart out, jumped on it a couple of times and then gave it back to me and asked me to carry on. Well, I would.
Not only do you see the focus of our duo, in their own discoveries, but it’s also made me take stock and think, am I best version I want to be? It gives you food for thought while we sightsee in Edinburgh, Mull, Tuscany, France and Florence. We are amazed by the sights, one of my favourites is the love wall in Paris, it’s definitely a place I want to visit although I will probably cry.
And yes I’m back to the crying. Still crying. I blinking loved this book, it was good for my soul. I really do sound so dramatic, even though at times this book was frustrating and you just wanted to scream and shout, it didn’t let me go. I read this in a day, I fell in love with the flawed characters of Phoebe and Sam. Their madcap scheme was such a clever idea, crazy, mental but clever. It gave them a chance to discover at their own pace if they were ready for true love. Are they? Well sorry, read the damn book!
It is most definitely going up there for one of my top books this year. It came into my life when I needed it. It’s made me smile, cry and it made me believe. I have always believed in fate and serendipity and this book just reinforces it for me. It stays true to this message throughout, fate always has its own ideas. It’s not always hearts and flowers, it’s hard work too. It’s the real deal and only you can make it work. Just loved it.
An unusual story, and in some ways two separate stories. I did enjoy the book, particularly the travel descriptions which were in depth and interesting. Not sure that the basic premise of the story rang true for me, but glad that I read the book.
I've never read any Miranda Dickinson before but I will definitely be on the lookout now! Although these characters seem to be at the mercy of fate, the plot never felt cliched or contrived. I was with them every step of the way and it had my heart racing until the last page!
I loved the start of this book but my enthusiasm petered out about half way through. By the end of it I was just over the drama.
Phoebe and Sam meet by chance just before they are setting off on a year long trip. The plan is then to meet again in a year's time. But will they or won't they? I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Phoebe and Sam and following them on their adventures. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen in the end. Very well written and I can't think why anyone wouldn't like this book. Heart-warming and lovely.
I lived pheobe and Sam in this book. They were wonderful characters who were very believable and I fell in love with their story
Thank you to netgalley and the author and publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC for my honest opinion
