Wow that was tense, this book was off to a flying start and didn’t stop.
A fantastic read and I just didn’t want it to stop!
At first I found this book so confusing. I wasn’t sure what the author was doing with the timeline. So I looked at other reviews to try and get an idea
They prompted me to ignore the timeline
Once I did that I absolutely fell in love with the book
I wasn’t sure what had happened to Natalie and whether she really had been murdered
I liked the way the author pieced it all together at the end, but gave so many clues throughout the novel by telling it from different viewpoints
I found this really gripping and really enjoyed it
Thank you
A gripping story if you can put up with the confused way it is presented which goes on too long with flash backs. Understand that this about the title of the book Rewind but it is taken to the enth degree and spoils at times a good read. Overall though it is a good read, the end is brought about maybe a tad too easy and isn’t in keeping with the rest of the book. I maybe a little hard in the review as it really is worth reading and I do rate the book
OMG. This book is brilliant-Scary and a must-read Cleverly written with the storyline going backwards and forwards. Full of twists and suspense it is difficult to put the book down. It has though altered my view of social media-I will be restricting my presence on some platforms from now on.
My thanks to Netgalley and Atlantic for a copy of “ Rewind “ by Catherine Ryan Howard for an honest review.
When I began reading this I wasn’t sure if I liked the format ,and would find it too confusing to follow the storyline. As I got further into the book it didn’t seem a problem at all .The style of writing just added to the suspense of the tale, full Of twists and turns
I thoroughly enjoyed this , it genuinely kept me guessing right up to the end, and I was glad all the loose ends were tied up.
I haven’t read anything before by Catherine Ryan Howard, but I shall definitely check out her previous books Will be recommending
I absolutely loved this book! The structure made the atmosphere of this book even more addictive! By the end I was shouting out loud. Definitely one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read this year!
The book opens with a startling and chilling scene. A woman, asleep, in bed in a room that is unfamiliar to her. She is not alone! A dark shadowy figure stands motionless in the corner of the room. Watching and waiting. The woman stirs and the balaclava clad intruder approaches her and strokes her face, flicks her cheek. They want her to wake up so that she is aware of what is about to happen to her. A knife! She struggles but it is no good...............The intruder lays down the knife and walks to the chest of drawers destroying the hidden camera that lives there.
Well I for one didn't expect that opening but it really sets the bar for what ultimately is a fast paced, pager turner of a thriller. The book uses the Rewind, Pause, Play devise to great effect in building the story that follows. Who was murdered? Why? And by whom? And, along with time stamps, it introduces us to the fairly large number of characters that appear in the book.
First Natalie, a lifestyle blogger and Instagram star, married to Mike and seemingly living the dream if her Instagram pics are anything to go by, then why is she on a bus , 300 km from home approaching a remote Irish seaside town on a freezing cold November day.
Andrew, a loner and manager of a small cluster of modern holiday cottages but with a dark and unpleasant secret. He watches his guests through hidden cameras.
Audrey currently staying in her sisters very small spare room, struggling to find work as a reporter and working for low pay in the Entertainments department of an online newspaper.
Using the times before and after the murder of the woman in the bed each of these characters and more are introduced and we learn of their involvement in the story. It may appear confusing but the writing is well done and all the characters are very different from each other both in action/setting and appearance that there is little to no confusion.
The setting and descriptive writing are very well done and create a wonderfully suspenseful and pacy atmosphere. The language used to describe the isolated Irish seaside village is very evocative and use of the local character's such as the policeman and local 'handyman' Richard really help set the scene.
The more you read the more you learn of each character and as the secrets and chilling truths are unearthed the plot thickens with Audrey becoming the main character. Will she get to the truth of the story?
I really enjoyed this read, a hard review to write without giving away crucial spoilers, but if you like a good thriller I recommend you pick up a copy of this and give it a go!
Rewind is published by Corvus Books and is out now. Thank you to the publishers and to NetGalley for my advanced copy.

Well this book was just absolutely phenomenal. I haven’t felt this gripped by a book in a long time. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
So to begin with I’ve read all of this authors books and loved them all. Her first novel ‘I am Watching You’ is one of my favourite psychological thrillers out there. Her new book ‘I Will Make You Pay’ is definitely moved to the top as my favourite book by Teresa Driscoll. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The story begins with Alice, a journalist who starts to receive threatening phone calls and packages from a stalker. The story follows Alice and her partner Tom through the horrific ordeal of dealing with a stalker. The story has many layers, we hear Alice’s troubled past and a mysterious narrator’s unspeakable childhood. How this all links together is pure genius. This is an insanely clever story with so many twists and shocks my head was spinning. I actually found myself reading slower to delay the end I was enjoying it so much. Fantastic. Highly recommended xxxxx

Audrey is a reporter desperate for a "real" story - and when one day something happens, she's frantic to cover it, no matter what. A famous instagrammer, Natalie O'Connor, has disappeared and nobody knows where she is, not her friends, not her husband. However, all that she did is left a note that nobody has found and rented a cottage to clear her mind. She doesn't know that in the bedroom she's staying in, the manager of the Shanamore Holiday Cottages has installed a hidden camera. One night Andrew watches as a person appears in the cottage, stabs the person sleeping in bed and then destroys the camera. Who was this and how did they know about the camera? Do they know Andrew's other secret as well?
So I was very intrigued by this book, however the more I read, the more confused I felt. The chapters were labelled Rewind, Pause and Fast Forward and while at the beginning I paid attention to them, in reality they've made me feel even more confused and so I stopped paying attention to them as they've never helped me to understand what actually happens in Rewind, or Pause, Play or Fast Forward and the read was therefore difficult for me and I wasn't able to stay focused. Moreover, the characters weren't well developed and because of the lack of sequence I didn't feel any connection to them. They didn't feel likeable, their actions felt too forced and the only likeable character was probably Natalie, though she also felt too weak.
There was potential, there was idea but for me there was no execution and the structure of the book simply didn't work for me.
It was a creepy, dark, depressing and unsettling psychological thriller about woman's quest to be with a man she fell in love with, about obsession and the influence of social media, with a compelling mystery and with some twists along the way, throwing suspicions at different characters.
This was rather disappointing. I thought it would be interesting as it was a different way of looking at things. Unfortunately because of all the backwards and forwards all the suspense was lost. No really strong characters to carry the story and the conclusion was a bit flat. Just a summary of the story the right way round stating the obvious as that had already been worked out..
A brilliantly written, total breath holding thriller that had me hooked from the first word.
Very clever and it keeps the brain cells mulling over who is involved
Let's not waste time. This book was captivating, I read it in 2 days. It had a huge cast of characters each one very individual and 3 dimensional. It was well-paced, something interesting was always going on and almost ever chapter had a cliff-hanger. It had a depth that I could not have forseen.
This book was not what I thought it would be - it was better.
If you like mystery thrillers with murder, stalkers, small towns and conspiracy, this is the book for you.
My first read by this author and it won't be the last. I loved the creepiness of the characters and the isolated village setting. The multiple timelines worked really well and the script reminded me of the film, fatal Attraction. If you like creepy thrillers, you will enjoy this read. My thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
A good tale spoilt by the unnecessary pause and rewind idea which I found irritating and at times confusing. The characters were a little weak and not always credible but I did enjoy the whole modern blogging concept.
I enjoyed this book despite not really liking any of the characters. It is a bit confusing with each chapter having a title - rewind, pause etc and with each having, to me, a seemingly unnecessary number, but I got the hang of it after a while. A good book which had me changing my mind about the outcome a number of times, which I liked.
An incredible plot that’s so unique and fresh with so many layers!! I loved the fresh and current slant on this story and how it’s so relevant to today’s Instagram and social media obsessed world-highlighting the good, the bad and the very ugly! The concept of Rewind is completely brilliant and keeps the suspense going so well without being disjointed. I loved how all the different characters and plot lines and their own histories eventually come together when, at first, they are seemingly totally separate! A creepy, intense, relevant page turning which I devoured in one sitting and makes you rethink your next Instagram post... even your next hotel room stay and shower!! Superb read!!!
Exciting premise, good sense of place and brooding atmosphere but the tale was a bit convoluted.
I can't rave about this, but I'd certainly pick up another by this author. It's the kind of book that as you read it you can imagine the film...very action packed and visual.
Thoroughly enjoyed this although the pause, rewind, fast forward confused me a bit in reading it as it was changing from past to present. Lots of twists and great hooks in.
What a different way of writing a story and I must say I really liked it. It sounds a bit muddled but as your reading it it really isn't. When something is a bit different I really like it, well done to the author for coming up with this. Great characters that all work well and make this one to really not miss.
Rewind is a bloomin’ creepy crime thriller that had me on the edge of my seat and jumping at the slightest noise.
The story starts with the disappearance of Instagram influencer Natalie. We know she has been murdered (this is not a spoiler) and now we have to figure out not just who killed her but why.
Rewind is a multi-persective story and you genuinely spend the whole novel going “he’s the killer, she’s the killer, they’re in it together.” Catherine Ryan Howard really does have you guessing until the very last page…or maybe it is just me because I never see these things coming. Either way Rewind was a damn good read. I loved it.
Rewind by Catherine Ryan Howard is available now.
