This was third book that I read by Claire Douglas, I really like her books . It is quick reads and interesting characters .
This book didn't disappoint , it is the story of two childhood friends , there is two timeline one is the past and how the two friends become strangers , the other is in the present and now Jess is journalist is going back to her hometown and trying to understand what happened to Heather .
what I like is that the characters are complicating and we dealing with multiple mysteries which all will be solved at the end satisfactory. Also I liked that it didn’t end as I thought but it had different and more interesting twist.
Thank you for providing me with a review copy of this book. Enjoyed reading, nice twist at the end, would recommend....
I have enjoyed other books by Claire Douglas and was looking forward to losing myself in another, but this just didn't engage me. I found the characters a bit bland and the story seemed to ramble quite a bit. There were a few good twists and surprises along the way but in the end I didn't really care what happened.
Then She Vanishes is a thriller that had me hooked from the off?
Jess is a journalist sent to cover a double murder. She finds the accused is old best friend Heather. They had grown apart when Heather’s sister disappeared.
Now Heather is accused of killing a couple in their home. Jess doesn’t believe her old friend could do this……..could she?
With a clever plot, lots of twists and turns this will keep you guessing right to the end. A psychological thriller just perfect for these dark winter nights.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an eARC of Then She Vanishes.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
A twisty thriller, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Gillian McAllister. Plays on many primal fears. Recommended.
This fast paced thriller is about getting to the truth of why and seemingly quiet woman shot and killed a mother and son then turned the gun on herself. Rather a whydunnit than a whodunnit we move between decades to follow history and the effect its had on the actions in the present. Full of twists and turns this kept me guessing right until the end. My first Claire Douglas novel but it won’t be the last.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for letting me read this book in return for an honest review.
Keeps you guessing and at times coming to your own conclusion. Well written by the author that tests family values. Twists and turns lead you to a conclusion you don't imagine.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin UK - Michael Joseph for the advanced copy of this amazing book
This is not the first book I have read by Claire and it won't be the last. Very well written with and a definite page-turner. Highly recommend - It won't disappoint .
Then She Vanishes by Claire Douglas was a total page turned. Hooked right from the opening chapter it had a great line-up of interesting characters and intriguing plot twists! 4 stars!
Claire Douglas books are a treat and a dream rolled into one. They will always always have you gripped! This one was no exception.
How can all this be happening to a seemingly regular and happy family? This innocuous background makes the story even more compelling as you try to decipher what's really happened and with what motive. It's a salutary tale of how the past will form you and influence who you are now and that there is no escaping from it. The ending will also teach you that the truth will not always out...
This was a well written mystery which keeps you turning the pages throughout. I would recommend this highly, and will be seeking out the authors other works.
Absolutely enjoyed from start to finish, u didn't want the book to end. Highly recommended, if you like books that keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
When I first started reading this book, I thought I had an idea of what was going to happen but I was proved wrong. The story took all types of twists and turns leaving me on a rollercoaster of emotions by the end! A brilliant ending and easily another recommendation for my fellow book readers!
Good book. Flowed easily and was easy to read. I like her writing style and have also read other books of hers and enjoyed them. This one had me guessing throughout, but the ending was slightly anti-climactic. I did enjoy the characters, and the writing was clear and painted pictures very vivid to the imagination.
This is a rollercoaster of a read as I followed the story of three girls, one went missing as a teenager, the other has a dark past and the other gradually moved away. Flora Powell disappeared 18 years ago, her body was never found. In present-day the younger sister Heather is found with a gunshot wound and is in hospital under police guard. Jess, who was once a friend of the sisters, has just returned back to the Bristol area after many years and reconnects with the family, she is also a reporter.
This is very addictive and also a very twisted story. I say twisted because I was never completely sure who I could trust. The story is told in a back and forth style so fills in the lives of the girls when they were younger. It is brought into the present day and gradually the truth starts to emerge, but is everything the truth? Who is lying and who is really to blame?
I liked this story a lot, it kept me hooked the entire way through and became a one-sitting read. It has a good plot line that took some dark routes that were definitely unexpected. Revelations are revealed that fill in gaps but how they are connected isn't revealed until much later on.
This is a book where I didn't really like the characters, it wasn't because they were badly written but because I felt they were all hiding something, maybe rather than not liking them it is more a case of I didn't trust them.
This is a mystery thriller that I think crime readers will really enjoy. It has a good amount of twists and is one I would recommend.
Claire outdoes herself again. She just keeps getting better and better. Then She Vanishes is one hell of a rollercoaster that gives you heart palpitations, but don't let that put you off. It is a must read and my go-to author in a bookshop. Highly recommended.
A superb read! I could not put it down; a gripping read from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the structure flipping between the past and almost present and the characters felt so real. Highly recommend this fab book from Claire Douglas to anyone wanting a great psychological thriller. Claire Douglas is becoming a must read author for any psychological thriller nuts out there.
With many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin UK - Michael Joseph for the opportunity to read this ARC, in return for an honest and unbiased review.
