Million Dollar Marriage is without a doubt fantastic read. I am a huge fan of Katy Evans work because of these fabulous stories. This Book was everything. Luke & Nell are such beautiful couple. They are different yet made for each other. Their chemistry is electric. I wanted to keep on reading this book and never wanted it to end.
I Would like to Give Million Dollar Marriage 5 STARS and Highly Recommend it to all Readers.
Million Dollar Marriage is classic Katy Evans’. It’s sexy and gripping, she pulls you in with her words and holds on tight.
Apologies for the late notice, but I have decided not to review this title. While I am certain it's obvious by now, I wanted to also clear this off NetGalley, so it's not showing as open for either of us.
I didn’t hate the book but it was mostly forgettable with underdeveloped characters. Penny and Luke had chemistry for lust but there wasn’t enough believable to convince me that they fell in love. The story relied heavily on both tropes and stereotypes which made the main characters one dimensional. I did enjoy the plot and the reality show aspect even though I never watch those types of shows. I have enjoyed this author’s work before but this was a big miss for me.
Gave 2 stars because the man on the cover is smokin hot!!
This book was cheesy and corny. Couldn't really get into it. DNF'ed at %15
Imagine saying “I do” just to win part of a million dollars?! I mean Nell couldn’t ever imagine this was something she would do. She never ate junk food or watched reality television. Stepping out of her comfort level she signed up and was actually accepted to be on a new reality television show. Lacking the self esteem and confidence she is teamed with an unlikely match that is totally her opposite. They literally have almost nothing in common. This is where we see opposites do attract and the quests they have to complete are absolutely hilarious. Nell will step out of comfort zone and may find the guy she never knew she was looking for. Absolutely brilliant!
Would I go on TV for the chance to win enough money to get rid of my student loans? If I was guaranteed some money, I probably would! That's the dilemma Penelope faces in this story. I feel her pain. Unfortunately, I felt her pain through most of the story and it wasn't my favorite. I never bought in to the two of them together and had a hard time believing their relationship myself. This book just wasn't for me.
What a fun read! I thought the reality show setting was unique and really brought an element of adventure to the story. Luke and Penelope were as opposite as two individuals could get. Their differences made for a great story line and in the end, romance. I hated how the cameras tore them apart and spit them out with no remorse. I was gutted by the struggles they faced due to the game show. But in the end, it all worked out and I was left a happy reader! Some of the dialogue was cheesy, but the steam was there and the characters were both completely genuine and likable. I really enjoyed this story and didn’t need to read book 1 to understand who the side characters were. A great standalone read with some heat!
Million Dollar Marriage is about Luke and Nell, two people who desperately need cash because of their bad financial situations. When you need something bad enough, people do crazy things….such as joining a reality show which is exactly what Nell and Luke do. They are complete opposites: Nell is the quiet, hardworking, no nonsense student while Luke is outgoing, loud, social extrovert. They join the show for money not to like one another or most of all, fall in love. Opposites attract as they say and that is exactly what happens between the two love birds. Apparently reality television isn’t all fake! i loved the book.
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
It’s an opposites attract romance with a reality show thrown in!
My only little issue was Nell was a hard heroine to connect with. I found her to be very rude and judgemental but as the story progressed and I learned more about her backstory I did start to understand why she was the way she is. Also as she started to fall in love she did warm up a little and change which was heartwarming to see.
Luke completely saved the day for me in this read. Where do I find my own?!
He was rugged, alpha and totally swoon worthy!
An enjoyable read.
A fun, sexy read by one of my favorite authors, Katy Evans. This books brings the charm, the swoon, the fun, and the oh so sexy seduction that Ms. Evans is known for. I enjoyed the original storyline and the great all around characters! A solid read!
Even thought I am not and never will be a fan of reality shows, I somehow don't mind reading about them, go figure. A fun, entertaining story, perfect for a bit of escapism with actually having to put yourself through a reality show.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a much bigger improvement than book 1! I've been struggling with Katy Evans' latest releases, which makes me sad when I used to love her books so much. But Million Dollar Marriage reminded me a bit of why her books were so special. I loved the concept of this book – a mix of reality TV shows The Bachelor and The Amazing Race. That aspect of the story was well thought out and well-written, and definitely the highlight of the book. I enjoyed our main characters, though the heroine frustrated me. I didn't connect with the romance as much as I wish I could have but it was still an enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun read with enjoyable, angsty characters. I am a big Reality TV fan, so I enjoyed that aspect of the plot and "seeing" some of the behind the scenes things that played out. I have read other Katy Evans books and was expecting a fun, flirty read with good banter and some laugh out loud moments. Million Dollar Marriage did not disappoint!
Katy Evans' Million Dollar Marriage features Luke who we previously met in Million Dollar Devil and his heroine Penelope Carpenter or "Nell." If you love shows like The Bachelor and/or The Amazing Race, this book might be something up your alley. I enjoyed this one but it certainly wasn't my favorite. For those of you who have read Lizzy and James' book, Nell makes Lizzy look an angel in comparison. And oh boy, was Lizzy pretentious but at least she felt more compassionate towards James. Luke and Nell, on the other hand, have absolutely nothing in common except for their circumstances which prompted them to be on the show. Not only was she judgmental towards Luke and called him a "thug," I had issues with her personality and attitude. She simply wasn't nice or cooperative towards her "husband." And yes, they had to get married in this reality show.
Initially, I sympathized with Nell because of her wallflower status, book smart/intelligence, anti-social awkwardness, and quirky behavior but as the book progressed, I saw another side to her and it wasn't pretty. Similar to Lizzy, Nell was pretentious and frequently looked down on other people -- including Luke. At times, I questioned why Luke would ever be interested or attracted to her because they were polar opposites. As for Luke, I really liked his character -- even if he did seem like a jock with more muscles than brains most of the time. I couldn't help but think he was very different from the Luke we met in Million Dollar Devil who was quiet, serious, and protective of his friends. Anyway, it was really hard to see the "love" between Nell and Luke, especially one that would warrant them to pursue a relationship with each other after the show was over. Most of the time, it felt more like lust.
Nevertheless, I did really like the adventure and reality show aspect of this book. It was unique and I liked the fact that Nell and Luke were complete strangers and had to work together despite being very different from each other to win the game. Some parts were really funny like the time Nell was strapped in front of Luke and they had to go through a maze together while being chased by a "ghost." In the end, I did enjoy this book and if you're looking for a fast-paced book featuring characters that are complete opposites in a reality show type of setting then this book is for you!
Intriguing and interesting concept but don’t feel like it was fully fleshed out enough. I’m not big on books about reality shows so that’s my fault
Lord have mercy Katy Evans can do no wrong when writing a book!!! This book was totally original and I so totally feel in love with it just like every single one of her books. I loved getting to know Luke so much better and lord did I fall hard for him. And I thought Nell was amazing and loved how Luke brought her out of her shell and made her see how incredible she was. The chemistry between the two was off the charts and it was funny how much she fought it. I really wish I could give this book more that 5 stars because it deserves so many more!! I highly highly recommend this book!!
Million dollar marriage was a fun read from start to finish, Luke and Nell made great characters and I enjoyed the development throughout the book. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed but I can see how it does fit with the overall theme in the book so it didn't take away too much.
Okay, Million Dollar Marriage didn't quite hit the spot like I hoped it would. Still very enjoyable, but there were several things that just weren't working for me.
I really liked the concept of the game show, more than anything it showed me how different that Luke and Nell were. I actually really liked Luke's character, he's very charismatic, knows when to turn that charm up and I loved seeing his competitive nature come out. He was actually pretty sweet sometimes.
Nell wasn't exactly my favorite character, she was super naive and that point was constantly made throughout the entire story. I really don't want to dissect every little thing that I wasn't a fan of when it came to Nell. Normally, I'm okay with a character being a little innocent, but this was on a whole different level.
Things definitely picked up towards the end and I was completely into everything until it came to the reunion show and everyone learns if Nell and Luke end up staying together. A wee bit dramatic for me.
It was an ok read, book 1 is my favorite in the series.
We have already met Luke in book 1 but Million Dollar Marriage can be read as a standalone.
Luke dropped out of school and became a junkie... Years later he owns a bar, he has a lot of friends, everyone loves him, he's sexy in a rough way and drops the F word a lot.
Nell stayed in school as long as she could. Now she has a doctorate, only one friend, no job and not really supportive parents.
They are polar opposites but they have a huge thing in common: they both are drowing in debts, they need a lot of money asap.
That's why they participate to a new reality show, without knowing what they'll have to do to win.
The concept is interesting. We really feel the competition, cheering for our heroes, needing to know what's the next challenge... It's difficult to stop reading.
Luke and Nell have to work together, to put their differencies aside. At first Nell is judgemental and it was hard for me to like her but through the pages we discover she has self esteem issues and she is smart enough to see Luke for who he really is. A smart, sweet, loyal, funny and respectful man. She's smart enough to see what he doesn't see in himself. Because yes education doesn't make people smarter, education is important but it doesn't make you more capable to face life and its challenges. Finally she and Luke have a lot in common. They both can be compassionate and supportive and caring... I really liked their relationship, the evolution, their banter... They come from 2 different worlds, he infuriates her at first but with time they learn to lean on each other, to trust each other, to overcome everything together.
Million Dollar Marriage is a sweet slow burn romance, an easy read... You'll spend a good time!
