This is a great read and a well-detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start. I really liked the well-thought-out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author publishes next.

A suspenseful edge of your seat read!

When He Vanished finds Jane returning from work one night to learn her husband is gone. However, the most disturbing thing is the fact that he has left behind his phone and wallet. What happened to him?

There is enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end!

Jane Gable is happy with her life – she has two wonderful children, a husband who writes thrillers, and who she loves and respects, and a good career as a nurse. However, that happy life isn’t guaranteed, especially when an old friend of her husband shows up and then her husband is suddenly gone. When he Vanished by bestselling author, T. J. Brearton, is an-edge-of-your-seat thriller where it seems that law enforcement is ignoring clues and wants to blame Jane for her husband’s disappearance and what appears to be his murder.

Brearton knows how to spin a good tale, and the storyline in this novel is believable and tragic, especially where Jane and her children are concerned. Jane’s mother is in prison for the murder of an abusive boyfriend, and of course the police think Jane has the same tendencies. Jane knows that her husband would have told her he was leaving, but as anyone would, has doubts and wonders if it was something she did. Jane uncovers clues of her own, like a hidden gun, but that just puts more suspicion on her, since the gun is the same one that recently killed a drug dealer. Jane’s husband is a recovering alcoholic, and she suspects that he has relapsed and has started drinking again, especially since his writing hasn’t been going very well.

The characters are well-developed in this novel. Jane is very believable, and her children act as seven and thirteen-year-olds would act in a real-life situation. John, however, is a mystery, and his actions do not seem to follow what Jane and readers think are right. The story flows smoothly, however, all suspicion is on others, and although the readers may suspect who the real perpetrator is, there seems to be no evidence to prove it and suspicion goes to others. The ending is a surprise, as is consistent with Brearton novels.

This one will keep readers interested. It is recommended.

I enjoyed this book, it’s a pretty cozy thriller to be read on a cold dark night next to the fire place. I can’t say too much without giving it away.

Thank you Netgalley for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

When he vanished by TJ Brearton.
WHAT IF YOUR HUSBAND DISAPPEARED AND THE POLICE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT HAVE KILLED HIM?
Jane Gable returns from her shift at the hospital one night to find her two children asleep in bed and her husband gone, his phone and wallet left behind. John has long been a responsible and dependable man, maintaining a predictable schedule. He is a former alcoholic, and so Jane fears he has relapsed and may be in trouble.
An ‘old friend’ of John’s, Bruce Barnes, turned up on their doorstep the day before his disappearance. Jane’s son Russ had seen a mysterious blonde woman at the house. An SUV keeps showing up. Jane feels watched and under threat.

Then John’s abandoned car is found with blood on the steering wheel and Jane fears the worst. And there is a revelation that will make her question her own sanity. Jane desperately begins investigating on her own. Suspects include her ex-husband, her stepbrother, and the mysterious blonde. Is she being framed? Can she even trust herself?
HOW FAR WILL SHE GO TO SAVE HER FAMILY?

I really enjoyed this book. I had my theory about John. I really didn't like Bruce. He gave me the creeps. 5*.

3.75 Hearts This is a true psychological thriller that makes you a bit unsure of your own surroundings.

When Jane’s husband goes missing the cops automatically look at the wife as the suspect. So Jane takes the role of detective on to herself.

What she finds puts her (and the reader) into a suspenseful mindset.

I really found this story interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had a hard time figuring out who-dun-it. Everytime I thought it was one thing a twist turned my thoughts around.

This was a good solid thriller: missing husband, questionable history, and potentially unreliable narrator. I realize that last one annoys some people but in this case, it added just a bit of a question to what was being relayed to the reader. If it helps, the character was questioning herself! Jane is just trying to live her life with her two kids and author husband. They live in a nice house in a small town and her family's history seems to be far away. But when her husband goes missing, she worries about a lot of things. Do people think she did something? Do they know about her mother? Do they think John ran away? What was going on with John? Ms. Brearton continues to do a great job of making her stories very character strong so the reader learns about them as the story unfolds. This all made for a good read that kept me engaged.

This book had me gripped from the start. I started reading late one night because I couldn't sleep, so I thought I would just read a couple of chapters but that couple of chapters turned into over half the story. The characters were good and the plot was good. You could feel yourself sympathising with Jane and the kids. I ended up reading all of this in 2 sittings, I just couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend this book and I would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read it.

I have just started reading T.J. Brearton and am totally hooked. Jane and John seem like the couple next door until you start peeling back the layers. John is a recovering alcoholic, Jane has a complicated and tragic family history, and they have a blended family. When John disappears and the pressure mounts the stress is more than Jane can manage. Her journey along that path is compelling and heart wrenching.

When He Vanished by T.J. Brearton was an interesting read.

I had chose to read this book because I read the about section and it seemed like it was going to be a great book, but after all the trouble that I went to to finish this book ( switching phones caused a lot of issues with this book) I am not sure it was really worth finishing it. This was drawn out causing me to struggle to finish it. I normally love mystery books but there was something about this one that just didn't hold my attention. Maybe in the future I will try this book again. But for now not so much.

A most unusual story line, but extremely fascinating. Kept me engrossed till the very end. Didn’t have a clue of the outcome until the end. A real page turner guaranteed enjoyable read.

I tried several times to continue on and finish this book but it was too drawn out for my taste. Maybe her husband's old friend from "school" had something to do with his disappearance, or maybe not. I will never know. I did not care enough to find out what was really going on.
