This is the first book I've read by Adele Parks - but to be honest, it didn't really keep my interest as much as I was hoping . The central character Simon is an alcoholic, and the story shows how destructive that can be for everyone around him, with some sad and tragic consequences. The storyline was clever, but I found it hard to believe some of the things that happened and found myself skimming through chapters, which is a shame. The clever twists were there , and I didn't see the final twist coming, but whether I actually believe it was possible, I'm not sure. Its a well written book, but just not for me.

Liar Liar Liar Adele Parks
I love Adele Parks and she has really changed her style from the old romcom novels, which I enjoyed, to something a bit darker but still completely compelling. I read Liar Liar Liar in a few days as it was difficult to put down. The story is about a couple, Daisie and Simon and their daughter Millie. Simon is an alcoholic and at the start of the story there is some attempt at explaining Simon’s this based on his childhood and his alcoholic father who he imitated. Hi addiction to drink seems to deteriorate as the book moves on and in a way the book revolves around his actions caused by his constantly drunken state. Daisie comes across as being rather weak. She is a primary school teacher, presumably used to controlling a class of children, but doesn’t appear to be assertive when it comes to her relationships with others and lets them dominate. Simon’s behaviour is often unreasonable because of his tendency to get drunk at every available opportunity and she seems to do little to keep this in check even though it is having an effect on their marriage and his position as a father.
There are lots of other characters in the book, mainly Rosie, Daisie’s sister, but also university friends Connie and her husband Luke, and Lucy who had an affair and then later married Rosie’s first husband. Daisie has not forgiven Lucy so there is some tension between the two of them. Then there is Daryll Lainbridge, another old university friend who Daisie was keen on when she was young. Darryll is now trying to worm his way into this little group of friends.
There is plenty of tension in the book partly caused by Simon and his actions when under the influence, but also by Darryll and his attitude towards Daisie. There are a number of twists and turns in the book and the final twist is very unexpected – the sign of a good writer who can keep her audience guessing until the very end!

This book really surprises. You start reading and you think you have got it all figured out. Really started to dislike the husband, Simon, and feel total empathy for his poor wife and daughter and then you are hit with unexpected twists and turns which brings it all back in on it's self. Great read although I thought it wasn't going to be about a third of the way in.

I have enjoyed this author in the past but this one was not on the same level. I skim read in parts as it just did not grip me and some of it did just not ring true for me. The ending was bizarre and unsure if it is possible. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Adele Parks at her best! Although I found this to be a very different style of writing to her usual books. Simon and Daisy seem to be happily married although from Daisy’s point of view their lives are marred by Simon’s constant drinking. At social events Daisy does her best to cover his drunkenness. All their friends are aware that he is a functioning alcoholic who has lost his job due to his drinking. However the family’s lives change drastically following a tragic accident to their daughter Millie after her parents had attended a party. This can be a difficult read at times as the story covers alcoholism, bullying, domestic abuse. The list goes on. The title is very apt as lie after lie unfolds. So many lies, secrets, twists and turns it can be difficult to keep up. It does highlight the strength of friendship and Simon and Daisy’s friends play a big part. Highly recommend. Thank you to netgalley and HQ

I raced through this book which indicates how much I enjoyed it!!
I loved the main characters Daisy, Simon and Milly. They were well written and made me feel like I knew them personally.
Living with an addict is a very difficult thing and this was explored beautifully in the book. The love Daisy has for Simon was tested to the limits because of his addiction. Add to the mix the web of lies their marriage is built on and it makes a difficult relationship. The consequences of lies leads to all kinds of misunderstandings and lack of trust which can lead to life changing events and this was well explored.
Just when I thought I knew what was happening the rug was pulled from under me. The twists and turns were scattered throughout the book leading to the biggest twist at the end,
I definitely recommend this book , thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my chance to read this fantastic book

This was a well written book with lots of twists and turns. Adele Parks pushes you into her characters and is a very good writer who's words flow making it easy to read

I've been a big fan of Adele Parks since the early days, but I haven't enjoyed her thrillers as much as her previous novels. Although I found the premise of this novel intriguing, I thought it was quite predictable from the off and although that may have been deliberate, I didn't feel engagement enough with the characters to care as much as I would have liked to.
I hate giving a bad review because I have been a big fan, like I say, I hope I will like her next novel more.

After reading previous Adele Parks books this did not disappoint. The book had me hooked and kept me up late many nights wanting to read ‘just another chapter’. While I did enjoy it I the ending was a bit rushed and left me watching more information so will take off a star because of that.

Lies and their consequences, lies and learning to live with them, lies leads to more lies. Realistic story about living with an alcohol problem and how family and friends cope. Thrills and spills. A must read.

This family is in trouble. Simon learnt from an early age that alcohol is the answer to everything. Daisy for seventeen years has pretended to the outside world that there is not a problem in her carefully constructed life and marriage.. Suddenly the cracks appear and their circle of friends can no longer assume there are no secrets and lies in this tightly knit group. As one catastrophe follows another Daisy must protect the illusion and more importantly her safety and that of her daughter. Driving the story forward, more lies are revealed resulting in a chain of events that lead the reader into the harrowing lifestyle of an alcoholic and the effects on his family and inner circle. Careful research into alcoholism and prison life leaves no stone unturned in the writers search for realism as we are exposed to the realities of a broken life and the effects on a family. A taut and thrilling ending if logic might suggest a contrived conclusion ensure all loose ends are resolved satisfactorily. Answers and acceptance replace the carefully constructed lies that formed the basis of this family in torment.

I read this quickly as I couldn’t put it down. It’s an honest, realistic story about lies, infidelity and alcoholism. Daisy and Simon have a beautiful little daughter, Millie, but Simon’s drinking destroys their marriage. The author writes convincingly about alcoholism and at times the book is painful to read but it’s also so compelling and well written with many twists and turns. If you want a book that’s going to keep you up at night, this is it!

Daisy and Simon have been married for years All they wanted was a baby and when Millie arrives their lives are complete. The only thing is that Simon drinks and it is beginning to affect his work, their friendships and their lives.
After one party to many their lives will never be the same again. Will their marriage survive and with what cost?
This is an addictive read with an explosive ending.

I’ve read all of Adele Park’s books and was looking forward to Lies Lies Lies. It didn’t disappoint. Dealing with the topics of what appeared to be a functioning alcoholic, infertility, adultery and much more. Plenty of surprises along the way, I couldn’t put the book down and spent much of an 11 hour flight with my nose in my kindle.

As one would expect from Adele Parks, another fantastic read that was difficult to put down. You get to know the main characters quite quickly and can sympathise with their situation and just hope for a happy ending.... I’m not saying whether you get that or not! With lots of twists and turns, you never quite know where the book is going and I love that.

I really enjoyed this. Parks is able to show an honest approach to alcoholism and why people make the decisions they do. Lots of twists to keep me interested, although I did guess a couple of them! I've read a few by Parks and this did not disappoint.

Many thanks to Netgalley and HQ for a copy of Lies Lies Lies for an honest review.
What a gripping, well written and thought provoking book!.
Is it ever justified to tell a lie ?
I’ve read all of Adele Parks books, and she has only got better with time.
A compelling story covering very upsetting themes I totally believed in the characters and their outcomes.
I was genuinely surprised by the twists the storyline took and felt it had a very satisfying ending.
I will be recommending this at work and feel it would make a perfect title for our reading group.

Nope! I'm so surprised that this book gets all the great reviews, because, for me it just didn't 'click' at all.
It's about a couple who, after struggling to conceive, have a beautiful little girl. Their marriage and life though, is based upon lies. Unfortunately, apart from the little girl, none of the characters are likeable and the lead, Simon, is thoroughly distasteful. I found myself getting more and more wound up by him as the book progressed. It's theme is lies (obviously) but also alcoholism, bullying and relationships.
I hope others enjoy it as much as many have, but, it's a definite 'no' from me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my ARC in exchange for this honest review.

I absolutely adored Adele's previous domestic thriller however I was really disappointed with Lies Lies Lies. It failed to keep my interest throughout and was a real slog to get through. The characters weren't particularly engaging and I found myself eye rolling frequently. A really random twist was thrown in at the very last minute and I actually think the plot would have benefitted from this twist being the main storyline rather than the dull one we actually got. There are a couple of sensitive topics but there were also quite a few things left untied which seemed really bizarre. Adele can write well but with a plot as lacklustre as this one, nothing could save this book.

Daisy and Simon, with their daughter Milly, appear to be the perfect family. But, when they are struggling to conceive, a trip to the fertility clinic results in a seed of doubt being planted and soon after the cracks start to show - and widen.
This story just shows what can happen when you have a relationship and friendships that are built on a foundation of lies, and how things can escalate out of control. As we progress through the book, we learn that there are far more factors at play here than a mere difficulty conceiving and some hard-hitting subjects are explored, which can be somewhat difficult to read at times. I am a big fan of Adele Parks, but this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. It was a little predictable and occasionally far-fetched, but ultimately an enjoyable read.
Thank you to HQ and Goodreads for the advance copy of the book I received in return for an honest review.
