It’s a while since I’ve read anything by Adele Parks and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this. The title is certainly on trend; books with Lies or Liar in the title have been flavour of the month for a while now, so Lies Lies Lies feels a bit like that particular trend hitting its peak.

Anyway, it was a very good read. Daisy and Simon are married with a young daughter, Millie; Daisy is a teacher and Simon is an alcoholic. (He does have a job, but in the nature of these things, his main job is increasingly Being an Alcoholic). Things start to break down, culminating in a terrible accident. But in a way, this is just the beginning of Daisy and Simon’s problems.

It’s a compelling and sometimes harrowing read with believable and interesting characters, though I couldn’t quite understand Daisy’s behaviour and actions, or lack of them, at times (can’t say more without spoilers!). There’s one entirely hateful character whose combination of arrogance and insecurity makes him particularly toxic (hmm, sounds familiar).

Great read, recommended.

Great characters in a contemporary tale that demonstrates how lies can unravel to destroy people's lives. This book also looks at the many different forms of friendship and the value that it brings when life is hard. Quick to read and would be an interesting book for a reading group as there are lots of questions and interpretations of the many characters and their lives

A deep, dark and deliciously twisty psychological thriller, that had me in it's grip throughout.
The plot line revolves around the secrets and lies of the characters and the resulting interactions between them. With alcohol, prison, memory loss and a psychopath added to the mix, it has a whole lot packed between the pages, while managing to remain within the realms of possibility.
Some of the twists I saw coming, whereas others came totally of the blue.
All in all this was a well written and satisfying read, which I couldn't put down.

Lies, lies, lies take you into a world where nearly every main character has told or is living a lie and it completely draws you in as a reader!! The characters you think are good, are flawed and the character you think are flawed will show you they are good but first they have to all survive what’s going on!! A must read!!!

Lies, secrets, twists .... well this is a story that has them all and from page one it draws you in with a compulsive storyline that keeps on going till the end. In many ways this is is a sad story of flawed people trying to carry on with life and in some cases just failing miserably, Simon and Daisy seem to be a just that a couple trying to live a happy marriage whilst all the time dealing with Simon’s addiction to alcohol but Daisy has secrets also and this leads to a disastrous incident that has many repercussions. Told in alternating points of view from Daisy and Simon this really builds up the tension and the characters are so well written it makes for a gripping read. My only gripe was I just didn’t connect with Daisy as I found her at times to be a bit of a wimp but perhaps that’s just me and in no way did this spoil the book. So a solid 4 star read and would recommend it as a compulsive read.
My thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Really loved this book.
What starts as a family story of daisy and simon attending an IVF appointment suddenly turns into a tale of constant twists and turns. The story kept me guessing until the very end with an ending I wasn't expecting.
The majority of the story leaves you feeling very sorry for daisy who has an alcoholic husband, as well as suffering abuse from another man. However the tables are turned when we understand the sacrifice simon has made to protect his family.
Definetly a book to recommend.

This is a well written story with a great storyline.

The author has written a great book with relatable characters. I felt myself glued to the pages and when I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about it.

Secrets and lies run throughout the book. From start to finish it’s a gripping read. Can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

My goodness, what a book. It had me hooked from the first few pages and never let up. Dealing with serious subjects such as alcoholism and sexual abuse but in a very humane and compassionate way. Adele Parks never fails to deliver and with this book she has IMHO excelled herself. The flawed , but ultimately likeable (some) characters, the relentless pace of the story, the heartaches and the pain - the secrets and lies. All too human faults and failings but dealt with in such a way as to grip the reader and make us feel empathy and compassion. I just loved this book and read it in 2 sittings, such was it's hold on me! Definitely a fantastic read and one which I'd highly recommend. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. You won't regret reading this one.

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I wanted to read this having read and enjoyed previous novels by Adele Parks, and this didn't disappoint. Pretty quickly the book took a different turn to what I was expecting, and despite a lull in the middle, most of the book was gripping and filled with unexpected twists and turns. Parks writes well, clearly giving a picture of the story and creating interesting, fleshed out characters.

Excellent book that I could not put down. It concerns a married couple who desperately want a child and have tried getting artificially inseminated and finally have a girl. Unfortunately the husband Simon likes his drink and becomes an alcoholic. The story keeps you enthralled from first to last page.

After years together, the arrival of longed-for daughter Millie sealed everything in place for Simon and Daisy. A happy little family of three. So what if Simon drinks a bit too much sometimes – Daisy’s used to it, she knows he’s letting off steam. Until one night at a party things spiral horribly out of control. And that happy little family of three will never be the same again.

So this book has two main parts separating it, the first part lays out what to expect and provides us with a background for the characters and was very hard to read and connect with. If you read this then you will see what I mean but due to the nature of what happens, I found it very hard to connect with both the plot and the characters, I was uninterested in what would happen to them and just was not rooting for anyone.

Then we move on to the second part which is where the action of the plot happens, this made for a better read and I preferred the choices the characters made but sadly the damage had already been done. I still did not connect to the characters or the plot and remained unconcerned with what would happen to them.

The title for this book is very appropriate, this is full of lies, some of the actual truths are more obvious than others, some really come out of nowhere and the couple of those that did meant the book became exciting and the plot had adrenaline injected into it. These couple of game-changing twists saved the book for me. However, I should say I think the really obvious ones were unnecessary.

I will also say that Parks handles a couple of very hard-hitting sensitive subjects and does so with aplomb and grace. They are not there for shock value but because they are integral to the plot and are needed and I have to say they were written about very well.

'Lies Lies Lies' could have been a twisting, intriguing hunt for the truth but for me, my dislike of the characters meant I did not connect with the plot or the people involved in the plot. I understand that they are the way they are because of the plot but I personally need at least one person to root for and get behind and this was not the case in this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an advance copy.

I am a long time fan of Adele Parks and so I couldn't wait to read this and it did not disappoint. I finished the whole book in less than 24 hours.

This book focuses on some serious subjects such as alcoholism; domestic abuse and the horror of incarceration. Like normal Adele handles this admirably, the characters were well developed and the story riverting and engaging.

I loved this book and recommend to all.

With themes of alcoholism and sexual violence, this book was at times difficult to read. I would often get so far in the book and then have a short break from reading it to read something a little lighter. It was, nevertheless a compelling read, leaving you always wanting to know more and wondering what the hell might happen next.

Daisy and Simon are OK together with their six year old daughter Millie. Simon's drinking is not always easy to live with but they get by. Simon loves his daughter very much as does Daisy. They struggled to have children but following on from years of fertility treatment Daisy amazes them both by becoming pregnant and Millie is the happy result of that pregnancy. Simon isn't satisfied though, he longs for another child and so makes tentative enquiries about the likelihood of them having more children.

This tends to be the start of all their troubles and after receiving not so good news Simon turns to the bottle even more in an attempt to drown out his sorrows.

As the title suggests much of the story involving this little family is based on lies. Not always deliberate bare faced lies, not lies intended to deceive but to save on heartache and hurt. The trouble is most of the lies backfire and end up causing far more hurt and pain than they were ever trying to hide.

I'm not going to say any more about the story, there are many twists to it, some I guessed and some I didn't. It is told in alternating chapters from the point of view of Daisy and Simon. It means the reader sees both sides of the story. I felt as much empathy for Simon as I did Daisy. I think the writing is brilliant. In fact I don't think I've ever found a book so stressful to read. There were times when I'd put the book down because I didn't want to know what happened next. I kind of had an idea of what was coming and just didn't want to know, as if by not reading and putting the book down it would stop the story unfolding any further.

An absolutely brilliant, riveting book that keeps the tension up right the way through from beginning to end. I don't think 'enjoy' is quite the right word to use where this book is concerned but I am so glad I read it, it was a sad, often heartbreaking read full of surprises and 'oh no' moments where I've literally dragged my hands through my hair in despair at some of decisions made especially by Simon. It has to be a resounding 5 stars for this book.

This novella seemed like a usual run of the mill marital tale...do not be fooled. The twisted tale unfolds with unexpected turns and revelations that will grip you to the end. Daisy's tale will leave you to shouting at the pages, desperate to save her and Millie for their roller-coaster of a life. Great story!

Firstly thank you Net Galley for granting me the chance to read this book. I have never read this author before although I have heard of
Adele. Parks. To be honest I did not feel I would enjoy it when I read the first few chapters and the story being told by the actual characters - I struggled a bit as it’s not my usual type of storyline however I preserved and so glad I did. There were so many surprises, twist and turns that I could not finish the book quick enough. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would look for other books by this author in the future.

Where to begin! This was a roller-coaster and oh, how I loved riding it! I laughed out loud and felt profound sadness for the things these characters endured, as if they were real; as if knew them. At times, I was frustrated with Daisy and Simon, frustrated at their actions and reactions. I wanted them to be honest and open - to stop for a second and share their respective viewpoints, clear the air, be open about the things they believe and the things they take for granted or assume. But they wouldn’t. They couldn’t. Because they were crafted so carefully, they were human! And we humans are messy. We’re frustrating too. We sometimes act on mistaken narratives we have about others and/or ourselves, narratives that take years and lies on top of lies to make, keep alive, and hold on to as ‘truths.’ . These people all felt so real. They were so messy, so flawed. I loved them and I wish I could give this novel more than five stars because it’s one of the best novels I’ve read recently. I actually look forward to buying a hard copy and keeping it home, lend it to friends, and one day read it again. Thank you to the publishers for allowing me to read it and thank you to the author for creating such a beautiful and powerful (love) story.

This was a clever novel that drew me in early on. Once it got going, it was hard to put down.

I liked the Simon and Daisy viewpoints, the story flits between them and this added to the enjoyment of the book.

The writing was sharp and intriguing, you are kept guessing and you really feel you are there, a fly on the wall.

Clever, engrossing and surprising are how I would describe this novel. The perfect duvet day read. Not quite sure about the ending but...

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
