Simon Barnes had his first taste of beer in 1976 when he was just six years old. Over the years it would become a habit and then a need. By 2016 and with a wife and child of his own he was a functioning alcoholic - a fact known by everybody except Simon. He's concentrating on wanting another child to complete his family. His wife, Daisy, isn't worried. They took a long time to conceive Millie, who's perfect in every way, so why tempt fate? Simon's not inclined to let matters rest though and it's at a fertility clinic that he receives the news that will change all their lives: he's sterile.
It was inevitable that Simon would have doubts about Millie's parentage, much as he adored the child. It was Daisy he had doubts about and he coped with his doubts by drinking even more. At a party given by the couple's best friends everything spiralled horribly out of control.
I'm not going to tell you any more about the plot than that - you really should have the pleasure of allowing it to unwind from the page as Adele Parks intends that you should read it. Suffice it to say that as soon as you think that you have it sorted in your own mind and you know where this is going, you'll find that everything changes and you've got to rearrange all your thinking. I didn't know what really happened on that fateful night until the final page.
It's even difficult to tell you much about the characters apart from the fact that they're brilliantly drawn, as you might believe what you're told, but you'll have a niggling doubt in the back of your mind that you've not been told the whole truth, that there's an ulterior motive behind what you've read. The only character I found to be completely straightforward was Millie. We're with her between the ages of six and nine and she goes through some dreadful times, but there's no guile in her. I loved that.
Lies Lies Lies is not a book you can pick up and put down. It's a book you'll start reading and be unable to put down because you need to know what happens next. I finished it in a little over twenty-four hours and resented every minute I had to spend away from the characters. Amazingly this is the first Adele Parks book I've read, but it certainly won't be the last and fortunately there's a more than decent back catalogue to investigate. I'd like to thank the publishers for making a copy available to the Bookbag.

I love Adele Park's booked so was thrilled to be able to read an advanced copy
This is Adele Parks at her very best - a great story with twists and turns throughout
Well written - fantastic character development
Can't recommend this highly enough

This is a superior domestic drama by one of my favourite authors. The book deals with many controversial topics and is written beautifully. Highly recommended.

My thanks to HQ for an eARC via NetGalley of Adele Parks’ ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’ in exchange for an honest review.
This domestic drama deals with some quite difficult subjects including alcoholism, infidelity, the pain of infertility, and domestic abuse. It is a very dark story.
It centres on the troubled marriage between Daisy and Simon. After trying for years to get pregnant and IVF treatments, Daisy becomes naturally pregnant with Millie. However, when Millie is six Simon begins nagging Daisy about them having another baby. He’s already drinking a fair amount, a ‘functioning alcoholic’, but after he receives devastating news at the fertility clinic it pitches him into a downward spiral. I won’t say more in order to avoid spoilers.
The narrative switches between Daisy and Simon throughout. However, I found the pacing rather hit and miss. Also, after spending a lot of the novel developing these issues the end felt very rushed and moved into sensationalism.
I didn’t feel much empathy with either Simon or Daisy. I felt sorry for poor fictional Millie, who is likely to need therapy later on.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

Lies lies lies is a book about a married couple where the husband has an addiction to alcohol. Tragedy strikes the family and the husband is blamed for it. This is a very clever and twisty thriller and I was gripped throughout. I definitely didn't predict what would happen and its very well written.

An enjoyable read with many twists within the story. The characters are well drawn, but in parts were rather long winded, particularly Simon. I found myself skipping parts where he was giving vent, in order to get on with the story.

Adele Parks has always been one of my go to authors, she was another the first when i started to read adult books, she used to do glamours covers with shoes and kisses on the front and i felt so grown up buying them, ever since then i have always picked up her books so to be able to review this for HQ is a major privilege (even if i got the date wrong *cringe*)
Daisy & Simons marriage is great isnt it? They are finally a family after the miracle birth of their longed for daughter - Millie. However, that isnt enough for Simon, imagine if she had a sibling - they did it before, surely another miracle can happen.
When he puts plans into action to see if this is viable however - what he learns brings his whole world crashing down around him. Simon - has always liked a drink but now its getting out of control and all Daisy can do is stand by and watch. Just as things come to a blow and their world couldnt get any worse, it does.
This book is multi layered, with deep characters and almost several story lines that bring the worlds together. When you think surely this is it? Then Adele hits you with another major plot twist, you just about recover and another one comes along. It really does focus on Lies Lies Lies.
It parts it is creepy, it is tense, it is gripping and heart wrenching. Daisy always only had Millies best interests at heart at all times, but then Simon apparently did too - but do actions speak louder than words? I loved unravelling this narrative and trying to understand the characters, their motives and their actions. This was brilliant, whilst alot of "thrillers" are deep dark and twisted, this was intense, in depth and like i said continued a brilliant mix of story lines that all impacted the characters.
This is one you need to pick up!

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book, which I have enjoyed reading enormously.
This is a book based on moral dilemmas in the modern age. Lies, lies, lies by Adele Parks, is a story about marriage and relationships and what you should or should not talk to your husband and friends about or whether you should keep secrets to keep your relationship. Simon is a functioning alcoholic for many years of his marriage but then his increased drinking causes him to lose his job. Daisy, his long suffering wife is a school teacher and their daughter Millie, is a promising ballet dancer. Until the night when Simon drinks so heavily and takes the car from Daisy to continue the drive home after a party at their friends house. Millie is knocked down outside their home and Simon is convicted of drink driving and imprisoned.
There are many questions that can occur after Simon’s imprisonment and his eventual release, such as, who really is Millie’s birth father, is it Daryl or Luke or Simon? Who drove the car when Millie was knocked down, was it Simon or Daisy? Will the lies in a marriage end that relationship or will it strengthen it? There are so many moral dilemmas in this storyline that make this book such an excellent read.
Highly recommended.

Thank you to Net Galley for kindly sending me a free kindle copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
I’m a fan of Adele so I did expect to enjoy this book and I wasn’t disappointed. It had a good strong story line and it gripped me for the start. I enjoyed the many twists and turns throughout the book and most of them did surprise me. The only criticism I would have would be I didn’t love the ending. I didn’t like the story behind how the main character got pregnant I found it slightly far fetched. The amount of lies in the last few chapters just seemed a bit much however all in all it was a well written and gripping thriller and it’s definitely worth reading.

Daisy and Simon are married and on the surface it looks happy but his drinking is out of control. His life is falling apart and a secret is set to destroy him but a drunken drive home changes everything and he ends up in prison. Daisy is living without him but now her own lies are coming to haunt her. Is there anyway back from it all?
Wow talk about twists, this book is full of them and they're so good. The story is told through Daisy's perspective and then Simon's. The plot builds slowly and to start with it was a little too slow but then it picked up and suddenly I was desperate to keep reading. The story is clever and deals with some real and scary issues. The ending was not what I expected but it's actually perfect for the book and how I wanted it to end. This is well written and the detail is well done.
Daisy is instantly likeable and Simon is not and yet I wanted him to work through his issues. I think Lucy was a great supporting character, she develops through the story to become a strong support. A dark thriller filled with twists.

This was a slow burner for me, but I stuck with it and I was glad I did. This book tells the story of Simon, Daisy and their aspiring dancer daughter Millie. After a horrific accident, where Millie’s dreams are crushed, Simon is sent to prison and Daisy’s lies begin to unravel.
This book has a massive unexpected twist which I loved and which kept me reading til the end
Thanks for allowing me an advance copy for review.

This book really lives up to its Title. There were so many lies it really is a case of "O what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive". It's quite a dark read dealing as it does with alcoholism and I wasn't at all keen on Simon throughout most of the book but warmed to him after some of the many lies were exposed. I enjoyed the book but found the reveal at the end to be rather implausible.

Well I can honestly say that this book lived up to its title. There are lies, lies and more lies within this book just waiting to be discovered.
Daisy and Simon have had many struggles during their married life. One being the struggles to have a child of their own, but after several failed IVF attempts Daisy discovers she is pregnant with their daughter, Millie, who is now six years old. There is still one big issue in their family life and that is Simon’s out of control drinking. His behaviour is becoming more and more erratic and Daisy is struggling to keep a lid on their troubles. Then one evening Daisy and Simon leave Millie with a neighbour whilst they go to a friends party and all of their lives are changed in an instant.
This is a great book with a storyline that will keep you hooked right until the very last page. There are plenty of lies to be discovered some you will maybe guess but others you won’t have a clue they’re coming !! This one won’t disappoint and really needs to be read without knowing too much about the storyline.
Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

A frank, and at times, painful examination of the devastation caused by alcoholism. Simon is a believable character and if there is one criticism I have of the book it's that some of the other threads detract from this main theme. Daisy and Darryl's "relationship" is interesting but I'm not convinced that it was necessary.
That said, this is a good read and my thanks go to netgalley, the author and publisher for this copy.

An enjoyable story, full of the trademark twists and turns which make an Adele Parks novel so readable. However, for me, the increasing number of coincidences at the end of the story made it almost farcical and not one of her better books. I'm looking forward to the next one though!
Thank you to netgalley and HQ for a copy of this book

This is not an easy book to read - it covers so many subjects - infertility, alcoholism, abuse - the story is told from both Simon's and Daisy's points of view - with much honesty. They both have friends and family who have done so much for them, not always helpful. There are twists and turns, one or two of which I saw coming but nevertheless the writing was compelling and absorbing.
My first book by Adele Parks but definitely not my last.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Adele Parks/HQ for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

Very twisty and was unputdownable. It shows great insight into human nature. Displaying their flaws and secrets that they would like to keep hidden.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. Great characters and a great plot line. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

While I think there was some good writing in Lies, Lies, Lies focusing on alcoholism and domestic abuse, I was not a fan of this book. The characters are unpleasant and unlikable and the book feels far too drawn out. The lies were progressively ridiculous especially the last regarding Millie's conception. An underwhelming read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Begins with Simon as a 6 year old boy and his family life of his normality of a father who drinks. Fast forward to when he is 46 and this is where the story begins. Simon and his wife Daisy have one child Millie, however Simon is not content and wanting another child after struggling to concieve Millie. At the fertility clinic Simon finds out some unwelcome news which makes him question his family life.
What I find hard to believe is instead of confronting his wife or talking over his fears and suspicions he pretty much gets trashed all the time drinking to oblivion. Surely a simple chat would of helped? But then again we wouldn't have the plot of the story and what unfolds. The next thing I find hard to believe is Daisy let's Simon drive their car when he is drunk and she is a passenger which leads to an accident. I sway between thinking right she just wants less hassle and he isn't a nice drunk to what the hell is she doing would any sane person really do this. But then is this a lie also? All gets reveleaed which turned the above view on its head.
But after this small minor gripe I love the way the book is written it has had me hooked.
Played out between the perspective of both Daisy and Simon. Adele Parks weaves a story filled with curve balls. An ex, an old University friend who understands and doesn't judge both also play key roles within this.
The lies that unfold are chilling, this had me turning the page wanting to see how this panned out....then bam another like taking you onto another tangent. You think this family set up is one thing then it changes. Your opinion changes on the two central characters of Simon and Daisy throughout.
Filled with secrets and suspense, manipulation, violence, an intense read, and the various plot twists are great... Which I didn't see coming!
