Sweet HOLY Titfire.
I don't know whether to rave about this book or scream, pull my hair and throw a tantrum. To say that this book sunk its claws into me would be an understatement. From the beginning, I was intrigued. Granted, the Name Vaughn threw me off because it took me a second to realize that Vaughn was a woman because I have only known men with that name. Yet, her resilience and strength as she defended another woman had my inner feminist roaring. I might as well have been wearing a pink hat and participating in a Woman's March.
From how Vaughn handled herself and how that first encounter ended I knew that it was going to be foreshadowing the direction that this book was going to take. Even knowing that that encounter would eventually be the pinnacle of the story still did not have me prepared to the fact that it would mean it would lead to a cliffhanger. AND BY cliffhanger, I MEAN CLIFFHANGER. I wasn't prepared. All of the years that I pursued my Literature degree and deconstructing stories should have prepared me. It was as if I wasted 50k in my education because it was all for naught. Not really, I am just being temperamental and pouty because I am not sure I can wait to find out how this story is going to resolve itself.
I need answers. I need to know what is going on with Ryker. No seriously, I need to know what is going on with Ryker. If there was a zombie apocalypse, I would sacrifice my children if it meant that I had the answers. They are in their 20's they have lived a life so it is only fair that they take one for their dear old Mom. Just kidding...no I am not. #sorrynotsorry The connection between Ryker and Vaughn was hot. Like a Phoenix sidewalk in August level of hot. It wasn't just about the steam but their whole connection and time together.
The author was exceptional at creating characters that were amazing, backstory and all and filling in the blanks just as my mind was starting to ask the questions of how certain things fell into place the way that they did. I Liked that. This book is definitely going into my best of 2019. I just advise everyone to be prepared to have their hearts ripped out at the cliffhanger. I know it will be worth the wait for the conclusion but sweet lord it still stings.
A Twisted Tale of Sex, Lies and Secrets
I liked the varying storylines within the book. This is book one so there is a cliffhanger at the end and multiple questions left standing so I would like to read the next book to see what happens. The story opens with Vaughn Sanders who goes by Vee in her business as a Madam. She runs an escort service in order to pay off medical bills she ran up while trying to save her drug addicted sister who eventually committed suicide. She wants to get custody of her niece with Downs Syndrome but needs financial stability before the Government will consider it.
Vee threatens a Senator with blackmail photos after he roughs up one of her escorts and then ends up having to take her place the following night with a new client named Ryker. Ryker is a powerful divorce attorney who only represents rich men. He doesn’t believe in love or marriage and only wants a smart and beautiful woman for business dinners and sex.
Ryker pretty quickly figures out that Vaughn is hiding things and leading a double life but us intrigued by her and wants to know her, so he wants to keep seeing her. Vaughn doesn’t want anyone knowing her personal life and she is also remembering things from her past. There are also some side storylines about Rykers previous relationship, one about the father of Vaughn’s niece and some other characters pop up that seem integral to the story. Overall it is a good book and I am excited to see how much of it is brought forward into the next one.
This book pulled me right in from the start... but then it lost me somewhere along the way. I have a bit of a bumpy history with K. Bromberg's books, if I'm honest. I've loved some. I've disliked some. And Resist falls somewhere in the middle. I just felt indifferent. I never really connected with the story or the characters, and at some point, I just started skimming. Not my favorite, it was just meh.
Resist was Amazing! I love K. Bromberg's writing. This story pulled me in on the first page. It's well written and has everything you'd want in a good romance. Vaughn is a strong character that will do what's necessary to get custody of her niece, and Ryker is a man who normally doesn't chase women. Vaughn will prove to be the exception to his rule. When they meet, it's a battle of wits, and so much more. I cannot wait for the second book of this duet.
2 stars
This was a case of 'it's me, not you'. I had issues with this book. The main character is an owner of an escort service. Right there, that is one of my biggest problems. And because of this it was not my cup of tea,
Ryker and Vaughn’s story was uniquely different. K Bromberg has finally managed for me to find someone to top Colton after all these years. The beginning set it off to trying to figure out why Vaughn was doing what she was. How did she get to this point you know? From then on there was this mysterious air to the book and I loved it! There were some key players in this book that kept me on the edge. I felt like they had something to do with everything. I was ready for a surprise visit from the uncle and thinking is he the one sending all this stuff. Then there is Ryker and I was trying to figure out what his motives were as well. I still have no idea what he has planned for Vaughn. You get to see how he evolves in the relationship with Vaughn, it was really romantic. He was starting to come around and claimed he is in love with her and then boom that ending!! I really, really want to get my hands on the second book. Why did K Bromberg have such an epic cliffhanger? I have more questions than answers and I can’t wait for book #2.
Let’s not forget to add how adorable and sweet Lucy is!!

I seriously need the second part of this duet, like RIGHT NOW, RIGHT FREAKING NOW! Holy Cliffhanger, I just can't even right now. Seriously, K. Bromberg knows how leave you anxiously waiting in anticipation for the next. I love love love this authors writing style. She is so in-depth with her characters and the story line. Resist is as intriguing as it is bold. This book had me all over the place emotionally, I didn't expect such a wide array of emotions, and now I am over her fumbling over everything I write. These characters had such a kinetic chemistry, that showed no bounds. The tension was palpable. The dialogue, was everything and more. The development from the characters and story was astronomical, now I just wait to see the outcome!!
Herione- has one heck of a backbone and can bust any ones balls. She is a sassy take control of any situation kind of woman. She is independent, and rely's on no one. But that's only the side she wants you to see, the one side she doesn't want you to see is how vulnerable she is, how her love knows no bounds.
Hero- is a true alpa-hole. He is a lot to take in a first, but eventually his true colors shine. He is vindictive, and always gets his way, no matter the cost. He is argumentative, and takes life by the balls. He is not your sweet hero, that will swoop you off your feet, he is the one that will drive you mad, so mad you will likely sock him in the face.
Can blackmail lead to something called love? Or is it something that will literally bite you in the ***?
I am an impatient person, and I don’t do well with waiting. Imagine my surprise when I got to the end of the book, and it was a CLIFFHANGER!!! UGH!!! However, as with the other K. Bromberg books I’ve read, I will get over my fury and buy the second one the moment it comes out. Resist was that good.
Many times during the book, I wanted to punch both of the main characters. Their stubborn natures made it difficult to get to the good stuff... but I persevered and now I wait until September (or hopefully an early ARC) for pt.. 2. Is it September yet?
4.5 stars from me,.
Why o Why would you do me this way..Here I am all into the story, I mean how can you not..Loving life, Loving Vaughn loving Riker and then the ending and I was seriously yelling at my samsung!! But then I realized it is not her fault it is Kristy's by being a freaking genius my friends, GE-NIUS!!!
K Bromberg has excelled herself with this novel, I loved the Driven series but this is absolutely superb.
Vaughan leads a double life, desperate to gain guardianship of her niece after her sister dies, to support this goal she is not only a cocktail waitress but a Madam to provide escorts for rich men.
Ryker is a top divorce lawyer jaded by what he deals with, he doesn’t do feelingd or relationships and uses an escort service. These two come together and lock horns before emotions get the better of them both, hard hitting but beautiful to follow their developing relationship
But, and it’s a big but, this book ends an a cliffhanger I didn’t see coming, and OMG is it a heart palpitation one. I’m on tenterhooks desperate for the next book.
My thanks to net galley and publisher Montlake for the opportunity to review this book honestly
Wow, this book was just wow! It was intense and it was fantastic. I can't wait for book 2. I definitely recommend this book, this author, and this series.
Oh my goodness what just happened? I’m not quite sure how to function after finishing this book... it was intense, to say the least! I am completely hooked and the wait for the conclusion of This story is going to kill me!
@kbromberg you made my chest ache with unadulterated emotion. The characterization that developed throughout the story was complex and unexpected. Vaughn and Ryker had this chemistry that seeped off the pages from their very first encounter until that very last cliffhanger of an ending. The topics broached within the plot line are interesting and demonstrative, lending to this multilayered narrative that leaves the reader completely captivated. Loved this story.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #MontlakeRomance for this ARC
Resist is that book, the kind you want to stay up late and binge read as you fight yourself to take it slow and savor each page. It's the unexpected: where the characters become the game changers, the story becomes unpredictable and all the words keep you glued to your seat as you hang on to every emotion, every word, every heart pounding and breathless moment! Author K. Bromberg delivered one of my top reads of 2019 with Resist!
This is the first time reading this author in quite a few years after previously reading her driven series.
Not sure why I waited so long. This book is fast paced and addictive and I read it in an afternoon.
I liked the character of Vaughan . Her tenacity, strength , determination - everything you want in a strong female role with a touch of vulnerability .
Riker is the typical successful alpha man The sort we all want to see change.
Really enjoyed the story ends on a cliffhanger and I will definitely be reading more .
Not a fan of the cover
Resist. It's what Vaughn knows she should do when she meets Ryker, but for once in long while she feels something for someone other than the two people she loves most in the world, her deceased sister and her niece Lucy. Vaughn, I feel like I know her. I feel like I just sat with her as she poured her pain out. She will do anything for the people she loves, all while having her own demons to fight and practically living a double life. Ryker, is a high powered and sought out divorce attorney. He only represents men. He doesn't believe in love. Ryker isn't all that he seems though. Much changes for him after getting to know Vaughn. She's the exception to all that he has believed in, she's worth fighting for.
This is a duet, it doesn't have a HEA yet. I was in tears at the end. I was hurt and heartbroken. I for one can't wait for the second book.
*Thump*, *thump* goes my heart. Swoon!
Resist by K. Bromberg just did it for me. It reeled me in with every word and chapter I read. I became intrigued by the story line and its characters. It is so much more than I was expecting.
It is SOOOO good! The put down everything you’re doing and read until the end kind of good. It touches you on a real and deep emotional level. It brought out all of the feels. It is exquisitely written and so full of emotion and angst but low-key on the drama.
I don’t have the words to adequately express how amazing this book is. Ryker and Vaughn’s story gripped me and pulled me in. I was rooting for them from the very beginning.
There was a twist that I didn’t see coming and it is a total one-eighty from where I thought this book was headed.
I must give a warning however. This book has one hell of a cliff hanger. I’m really just holding on by the tips of my fingers on this one. I need the next book ASAP.
Ryker is a powerful divorce attorney and Vaughn is a madam running a brothel. They both have walls that must be broken down but, most of all, they both have secrets they are unwilling to share.
When Ryker backs Vaughn into a corner and makes an offer she can’t refuse, they are set on a path none of them knew they were looking for or ready for.
Is it possible for Ryker to break down Vee’s walls? To share her secrets? Will Vaughn ever trust Ryker enough to share her all with him? If so, what will be the cost?
Wow! Just Wow! This was a book that I simply could not put down. Every layer revealed more and more depth of character. Didn't realize it was book one so beware of the cliffhanger! Definitely will be watching for book #2. So well written and characters that are flawed, but can't wait to see what they will do next. A must read!! First time I have read this author by absolutely will not be the last!
I have been a huge fan of K. Bromberg since Driven and love that whatever genre she writes in, her passion and dedication to her characters is always evident. We see what's in their hearts and feel the emotional connection between her characters. Vaughn and Ryker was one of these couples. I enjoyed their banter and physical chemistry and the twists and turns of the story!
I enjoyed Resist and the spirited relationship between Vaughn and Ryker. Vaughn had sass and was so determined to stay strong and look in control. Ryker had a similar personality which left me feeling frustrated at times. This story felt like two alphas going head to head who were so worried about looking strong that they failed to see what was in front of their faces the entire time.
All in all this wasn't my favorite read by this author but I am invested and I can't wait for book two! I would like to thank Netgalley and the Publisher for an advanced copy of this book
for an honest review!4 stars ~Ratula
I love Ryker and Vee but ughhhh that Cliffhanger was brutal. I'm a huge fan of this author and can't wait for the next book. Thanks Netgalley for the Arc
