Just try to resist this enemies to lovers story, I dare you! Ryker and Vaughan are two powerhouses, and together they are explosive!
He’s a man of many secrets. She’s a desperate woman needing to fiercely protect something. There is an intense push and pull between them as they fight their feelings (and each other).
This book is darker than the other Kristy Bromberg books I’ve read, and I was completely captivated. Then I got to that cliffhanger ending and I needed to throw my kindle! Major book hangover and I’m in need of the conclusion!!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I really did enjoy this book, this author never fails to make me smile and cry and feel all the emotions.
Definitely recommend.
Wow, I was helpless to Resist this emotional, heart-pounding, and sexy story! I was totally seduced by the sexual tension between Vaughn and Ryker and the exchange of power they both fought to control. Their relationship started out unconventional, but their attraction was magnetic and their chemistry so explosive they couldn't stay away from each other. Vaughn has secrets she can't reveal as she fights to support and protect those she loves. Ryker is a powerful divorce attorney who always sides with men. But the more he unexpectedly falls for Vaughn, the more he wants to be a better man. I loved Vaughn so much for her strength, courage, and devotion. She was forced to be independent from a young age, so when Ryker came along, she was unprepared for his attention and words of adoration. In their world of money, power, and sex, they must do what it takes to protect their vulnerabilities. When they both start breaking all their rules, they find they may have trusted in the wrong people. This gripping tale was so beautifully written, slowly revealing some secrets, but adding more intrigue as well. I was so enthralled from beginning to end, totally invested in Vaughn, and Ryker and can't wait to find out what happens next in bk #2 of the Wicked Ways series, Reveal!
Vaughn (Vee) will do anything to get custody of her niece, Lucy, even become a madam. She has to get out of debt so she can prove that she can provide for Lucy and this is the fastest way she can think of to do it. Unfortunately, when an influential man roughs up one of her girls, Vaughn has do something she never has before - become one of her girls for a client. Ryker is a high profile divorce lawyer who just wants a woman when he needs one and doesn't want to handle the dating scene. He's been burned before and is jaded but then he meets Vee. There's something about her that captivates, intrigues, and infuriates him. As their relationship progresses, Ryker finds out why Vee is a madam and about her horrific childhood. This is part one of a two part story.
4.5 estrelas
Resist was quite a different story coming from Kristy and I was so excited to get started and see what kind of journey she was going to take us on this time. Ryker and Vaughn are both formidable characters, strong and stubborn, not letting anyone tell them what they're going to do and I knew it was going to be quite the struggle between them to gain any ground with each other.
Vaughn has had a lot of tragedy in her life, but she's holding it together, running a business and doing everything she can to accomplish the one thing she wants more than life itself. Ryker is doing nothing but making it harder for Vaughn to keep the walls she's erected around her heart to stay standing. Even though he pushes every single button she has, she can't deny the attraction she has to him and for the first time in her life she wants to open up to a man.
Ryker is a self proclaimed prick who makes no apologies for the way he is, but when it comes to Vaughn he finds himself taking a step back and reevaluating what he wants out of life. Can he put his trust in a women who has been turning him away at every turn? That just makes him want her even more. What is she hiding that makes her keep those walls erected and the secrets locked hidden behind them?
The push and pull between Ryker and Vaughn is nonstop. They tired me out with all their stubbornness and hard headedness, but once they finally got all their cards on the table, it was bliss seeing these two people open up to each other. Their banter and affection for each other had me smiling like a goof.
There's so much on the line for Vaugh, so many balls she's trying to juggle and keep in the air at any one time. And too many people who could bring all those balls crashing to the ground, one very key person in particular who could destroy her if her truths came to light. Kristy definitely knows how to write a character everyone will love to hate!! But she also knows how to write the characters that you will fall in love with, hook, line and sinker and I can see exactly why Vaughn is doing the things she's doing.
Just when I thought these two had found their way forward, a huge deception rocks Vaughn to the core, and now I am dying for book 2 to see how everything turns out! September can't get here fast enough!
This book will pull you in from the first page. After reading the blurb I knew I needed to get my hands on this book.
Vaughn also known as Vee is living in two worlds. Vee is the mysterious madam and Vaughn is a struggling waitress trying to pay down debt. Being two people is exhausting she only has to keep the madam job long enough to get out of debt and get custody of her niece. It becomes harder than she thinks to keep the two worlds separate.
Ryker is a handsome and a very successful divorce attorney. He doesn’t do complications when it comes to woman so he uses escorts that cater to the rich.
This book had me on the edge of my seat. Once I started this book there was no way I could stop until I finished. These characters will have you so frustrated at times and then the next minute you love them. I need book two now after that ending!
Bromberg is known for her multi-level characters that make you love and hate them at the same time, in Resist she is at her best in character development. Vaughn and Ryker have so many complex levels that you both cheer and boo for them through out the book.
It pulls you in from the beginning and doesn't let go ever. I want Vee and Ryker to be together, but don't know who I want to come out on top in the second book of this duet.
At first i thought oh this is a book that i could read and like, NO i Loved this book, i have never read anything like this book. from the first page to the end i wanted to know what was going to happen. i loved Vee the take no crap of her attitude but that's the way she had to be. could she have had an easier life i believe so but it made her the person she is today. I adored Lucy what we got to see of her, this little one is the main reason that Vee/Vaughn does what she does. Ryker is someone who i wanted to believe would come in and save the day. Wealthy lawyer who doesn't believe in love. I was blown away with the way the story took us, but it also have left me wanting more, i need to know what is going to happen next. Sept seams like it's so far off. i can't wait.
Resist is the first novel in the Wicked Ways Duet and I loved this story so much! K. Bromberg created a powerful couple with lots of chemistry in a very sexy, yet emotional story!
Vaughn and Ryker are so explosive together. There’s a palpable pull between them from the start, but both are strong-willed making their firsts few meetings rather tensed and charged with hostility. I enjoyed every interaction bursting with magnetism and the beautiful built of their relationship toward something really beautiful!
They start a relationship on a professional level, but they soon realize the lines becoming blurred. They get invested emotionally when they discover more about each other on a personal aspect.
Ryker is an incredibly alluring alpha! He exudes power and authority and isn’t accustomed to being ignored or put in his place. Vaughn is a challenge to him with her desire to deny him at every turn. It only makes their encounters even more intense! While Ryker is impressive, we slowly unveil a very caring man under the cold exterior he demonstrates.
Vaughn is certainly the kind of heroine that I can’t get enough of. She’s independent and resilient! It’s not an easy life she leads with her escort agency as a madam, but it’s not by choice. It’s a necessity. She has a heart of gold and we discover her reasons for working this job. She’s really selfless
I loved every minute of this deliciously scorching read packed with heartfelt scenes! That ending left me speechless and I’m more than ready for Reveal now!
Vaughn Sanders and Ryker Lockhart were not supposed to fall in love. It was supposed to be just a business arrangement. But, the chemistry between them is incendiary and they simply cannot Resist.
As a madam of an exclusive and high-priced female escort service, Vaughn Sanders has a backbone of steel. She protects her girls like a Mama Bear. But she never goes out on dates, i.e., until Ryker Lockhart blackmailed her to do it.
Rich, powerful and influential, Ryker Lockhart is a high-priced divorce attorney in New York City. His personal and professional life had given him a jaded view of love and marriage.
Yet, he cannot get Vaughn out of his mind. She might be a madam, but there was more to her that meets the eye. A chance meeting showed him the reason and Ryker found himself falling hard.
Inside the bubble of their love, Vaughn and Ryker feel invincible. There is a chink in their armor though, and it is called real life. As Vaughn’s job intersect with the high-powered Manhattan crowd, their love will get tested. Question is, can they pass it?
A romance book with a very powerful message, “Resist” epitomizes the school of thought that romantic heroes do not need to be perfect. Having dings and bruises in their characters just make them more real and believable. Vaughn and Ryker fall in that category.
Both of them are well-fleshed out, their back stories are firmly established. K. Bromberg has once again demonstrated that she has mastery of her craft. That the book ends in a cliffhanger did not deter me from enjoying it. In fact, I cannot wait for the release of Reveal, the second book in this series.
“Resist” is Rated M for Mature due to the theme and sexual content.
I don't even know where to begin.. K. Bromberg certainly knows how to draw a reader in with her masterful way with words, Resist is no exception. From page one I was hooked.
Resist is book 1 in the Wicked ways series/duet, and what a fantastic way to start. In this, we have to main characters, Vaughn and Ryker. Both characters are unique in their own ways. This author knows how to write characters you can't help but invest your time and I am neck deep invested with these two.
Vaughn has been through hell in her life. My heart honestly broke for this woman, and I am not about to dive into her past but it has left her a tough, strong-willed, guarded and stubborn woman that tries to make the most of life and the situations she been in, a woman that will do anything for the people just loves in her life. Which consist of two people... That's until Ryker came into the picture.
Ryker is EVERYTHING!! He's an asshole, he's dominant, he's hot as hell, a man who doesn't do relationships. He works as a high profile divorce attorney... That only represents men.. I mean that in itself can tell you how much of a dick he is. He is the type of man that when he wants something, he will get it and will go to great lengths to do so. But I couldn't help but fall for this man. He's everything I look for in a hero. I am a sucker for alpha-holes!
These two together have so much chemistry, they are intense, they are addictive, but they are both as stubborn as each other. Ryker is used to getting what he wants but so is Vaugh and she isn't the type of woman to bow down to anyone, especially a man like Ryker! Both have dominant personalities which make for a very very interesting combo. They can't seem to keep away from each other. The banter and overall relationship with these two are fun and entertaining, yet it still holds so much intensity. I seriously could not get enough.
And as much as I want to go into detail with this. I simply can't.. All I can say is be prepared to cry, to laugh, to scream and to curse people out. This book is full of emotion and will have you need more... AND I DO? Because that damn ending has kicked me right in the gut!
I knew going into this that there was a big possibility that there would be a cliffhanger and I was right. I have a love and hate relationship with cliffhangers and this one was played out perfectly, I know some aren't keen on them but honestly, this book is so worth it and I have no doubt in my mind that book two will be just as amazing as this one is.
Bravo, Ms. Bromberg, yet again you got and blown my mind with your words, and throw me into a story that I fell in love with the deeper I got into the plot.
5 Stars
While the writing is good and the characters enjoyable, I found the plot to be predictable, ultimately lessening my enjoyment of the book.
Ryker is the divorce attorney who doesn’t believe in love and looks at physical intimacy as a transaction. As readers get to know him and his family, it is clear why he feels paying for companionship is the safest and easiest way to go when it comes to meeting his needs. The use of secondary characters definitely goes to showing his softer side and as the novel progresses can readers see more heart.
Vaughn, while likable, fell into the stereotypical escort heroine. She doesn’t want to do it but has to do it, and if you have read any escort books you have a general understanding of what happens not just to her character but between her are the hero.
The story itself, while written and paced well, lacks any surprises. About 4-5 chapters into the story, I knew the basic plot line, and there was not a single deviation from my expectations. I needed a curve ball, something unexpected to make me want to keep reasing, unfortunately that didn’t happen. Even the ending didn’t shock me. This may be because readers have Ryker’s POV, so I didn’t buy what he was saying and what she was hearing. I also feel like I know the plot of book 2 for the most part.
This is not a bad book in any way, shape or form. I, personally, just need a bit more anticipation in more stories, more of the “I don’t know where this author is taking me” moments.
Resist by K. Bromberg is book One in the Wicked Ways Series. This starts the story of Vaughn and Ryker. Vaughn runs a business which is her focus along with progressing through her goals but she does have secrets too she needs hidden. Ryker became a client of hers and the attraction is off the charts but things are what they seem nor to easy for them. Which leads to this book setting us up for the next installment in this series (cliffhanger).
Can't wait for the next installment!!
This book. OMG y’all!!! This. Book.
*licks every finger*
This was one of the most delicious enemies to lovers books I’ve read in a while. I can’t even. Still can’t even. It was just that satisfying.
I’ve been a long time fan of K. Bromberg, but I never expected her to write THIS level of alphahole. But not only did she, but she made me fall head over ovaries for the man, all logic forgotten.
Now let’s talk about this for a hot second, because I will say that if serious alphaholes aren’t your jam, this book isn’t for you, my friend. But this girl? Devoured it with the type of fangirling glee that this author seems to bring out in me. GAH!
I’m not a fixer. I’m not a man who wants to step in and save the day. Far from it. I’m too goddamn selfish to be that way. So why am I walking into this knowing there’s bound to be complications?
Rycker Lockhart is a devastatingly handsome and incredibly successful divorce attorney. He’s cold, ruthless and all business. He learned early on that women are a complication that he doesn’t need beyond a night. He’s also the demanding client of a secret escort service that caters to the rich and power hungry.
The heroine is the owner of the escort service that’s doing what she needs in order to get something that means the world to her with all the odds stacked against her. She’s tough as nails yet with a core of vulnerability that I couldn’t help but connect to immediately. This is a woman that has no problem being the first to say no to Ryker, who’s none too pleased to hear it. But then he makes her an offer that she’d be insane to turn down.
The story is one big power play in motion and I for one devoured it. The constant push and pull, back and forth, cat and mouse game that these two had going utterly owned and captivated me. I couldn’t get enough of it, no matter how frustrating it got. It was just so delicious. UGH.
Ryker is almost maddening in the games he plays. The man is ruthless with a capital R. This is no knight in shining armor. This is a man with some demons and an ice wall around his heart. I was completely enraptured by him. As much as he frustrated me at times, I still couldn’t get enough of him.
The characters are multilayered and the author peels back their layers page by page, until you’re ravenous for more. They both have so much depth, which I seriously loved. It’s so much more than a power play between a ruthless man and a desperate woman. There’s plenty of secrets and twists that will keep you glued to the pages. And then that ending!!! I. DIE. I need. NEED the next book desperately!!!
An emotional and empowering journey of a woman doing everything in her power to gain custody of her niece, a young girl with downs syndrome, who brakes her one rule in life. Never let anyone in. Especially someone who employs her escort company to meet his needs. Against all odds, she let's him and trusts him like no other. But when two people who never trust anyone finally let someone in, life has a way of testing them, obstacles at every corner and a disturbing darkness lurking in shadows waiting to take everything from them. Loved every minute and was blown away by the ending, thanking my lucky starts I had the next one ready to go! I have never read a K. Bromberg book so I was surprised that all the hype is definitely true and her words should be devoured. By everyone.
5 Stars!
K. Bromberg has done it again with a brand new series and a brand new book (holy cliffhangers but I promise it's sooooooo worth it!!) and oh my gosh y'all! What. A. Ride. Seriously just wow and kinda unexpected! Every moment and every little thing was addicting, intense, edgy, angsty, and kept me on the very edge of my seat the. entire. time.
Unstoppable in the best ways. Thrilling until the very last word. A journey that'll leave you breathless and characters that'll steal your heart wholey... Resist was so so damn good, brilliant... steamy, sexy, emotional, riveting, and crazy complicated (hello duet and part two!!).
Completely unputdownable and totally unforgettable in all the best ways... Ryker and Vaughn slayed me to the very core and left me begging for just a little taste more.
I am on pins and needles for the next!!
I highly recommend this book.
Wow!!! Like wow wow wow! I was so not expecting any of that! This was was awesome!! And that ending?!! Holy moly! I kept trying to turn to the next page in my kindle and when I realized that’s how it ended, I screamed out “Nooooo”. To say I need the next book is a huge understatement.
Ryker was something else. He was cocky, sexy, smart, and didn’t take no for an answer especially where Vaughn was concerned. I totally don’t blame him, Vaughn was magnificent!! Yes, she freaked and acted crazy a time or 20, but she had her reasons, and at the time of her crazy outburst I could see her reasons behind the cray.
I really enjoyed watching these two headstrong characters give in to the magnet pull between them and just enjoyed the ride. And what a damn hot ride it was!! I mean to set my iPad on fire and down a glass of ice-cold lemonade hot!!
I can’t wait for book two, it’s been too long already, and I don’t know how I’ll ever make it until September’s release day. These characters stayed with me for a long while after I finished, and even now as I write this review I’m already feeling the familiar pangs of withdrawal hitting me again. Wonder if there’s a Vaughan and Ryker rehab center.... hmmm must investigate this. While I google this, why don’t you go read the book and see what all the fuss is about? I recommend this book to.... hell, everyone!
I've been resisting this book (pun intended) ever since I found out it's part of a duet and that it ends in a cliffhanger. I finally found the courage to read Resist, but I'm not entirely sure if I'll read the second book, despite the cliffhanger.
Resist is intense, angsty, and dark. I wouldn't call it a dark romance, but it definitely deals with some really dark themes. I usually love intense and angsty romances, but I wasn't entirely if I loved Ryker and Vaughn as characters? Ryker came across as such an asshole, while Vaughn continuously kept running away to hide under her shell. I definitely understand the heroine a lot more so I'm more compassionate towards her. The hero, on the other hand, was a walking cliché: a jaded divorce lawyer who doesn't believe in love and who only represents men. Been there, done that. The only time I loved Ryker and Vaughn is when they interacted with Lucy — she was their saving grace. Ryker got 10x more attractive when he interacted with Lucy.
The plot is interesting, but took a backseat to the repetitive romance. The banter and dialogue were both good, but soooooo repetitive. It felt like Ryker and Vaughn were going back and forth in circles. It got old fast. The last couple of chapters felt a little pointless and draggy. I think this story could have been told in one book, but what do I know? Maybe the author has a lot more in store for us in the second book.
Vaughn she's got secrets, she has a plan and she is so close to see the light at the end of the tunnel ( you know what I'm saying ) . That's where Ryker comes in and starts throwing her off her game. Amongst some other things of course. These two have met their match with each other. I really enjoyed the banter these two throw off. There were times that I struggled with Vaughn a bit. But ill get over it. The story is good and different and I really REALLY NEED the next book I can't wait to see where we are going with this. ARC provided By NetGalley For Honest Review
