I can easily say I’ve just read the BEST K. Bromberg book to date. I fell head over heels for Resist, the dirty, sexy and shocking tale of Ryker and Vaughn.
Ryker is a successful divorce attorney who is the epitome of an alpha male. He works hard and plays even harder. Vaughn is a waitress at a club for the wealthy, making it look like this is the job that pays the bills when in all actuality, she is the madam of an escort service. When an unfortunate event has Vaughn stepping in to accompany Ryker, all bets are off in this incredible game of push and pull, give and take.
Both characters took me by surprise. Just when I would start to fall in love with their characters, I would be ready to scream at the games Ryker and Vaughn were playing with each other. However, the emotion pouring out of both of them was truly unexpected and I came to find my self falling for Ryker!
Ryker and Vaughn have THE most amazing chemistry. It pulls at you from the pages of this amazing story and leaves you breathless with one of the most fantastic cliffhangers I’ve ever read. I cannot wait to see what happens in Reveal!

Vaughn Sanders aka “Madam Vee” takes her profession very seriously. With her escort business booming, she is getting closer to achieving her financial goals... until she meets the client who may just hold her future in his hands.
Ryker Lockhart is a busy man who has no desire to jump through the hoops of a relationship. Hiring an escort to be at his beck and call seems like a great, no strings attached option, until he and Vee butt heads, and she is soon the only thing he can seem to think about.

Resist was the ultra sexy and dramatic beginning to the enticing new Wicked Ways duet. Vaughn and Ryker begin what should be a simple business relationship, but when their transaction starts to take a path towards the personal, it's only a matter of time before these two unyielding personalities clash magnificently...
Vaughn is a hardworking and caring woman who has vowed that she will do everything she can to gain custody of her niece in the wake of her sister's death. And while accepting a deal with a man like Ryker seems like the worst idea ever, Vaughn can't deny how much she needs his business... and the money that comes with it. But in return, will she be sticking to the rules that she has ever written for herself, or will she give Ryker the power to inflict damage on her heart...
Ryker doesn’t seem to value women much and he comes off as a cocky jerk more often than not. But his infatuation with Vaughn has him rethinking his choices about the opposite sex, and his need for patience to obtain the woman who has gotten under his skin will be so very worth it in the end. But when he discovers more about Vaughn and her motivations for her career, everything he thought he knew about women is about to change...
I really enjoyed the plot for this book and especially Vaughn's character, which was a strong and admirable one. I liked the reason she had for running her escort business and I thought that her character showed great depth, especially with the conflict of her newly discovered inner turmoil. And with how much I liked Vaughn, unfortunately I didn't feel the same about Ryker. I didn't feel like he was represented very well, and with his dismissal of all women as not worth his time, it took a lot for me to feel like he was a good match for Vaughn. But, with their banter and sexual tension being so well done, he definitely grew on me... until the gasp inducing ending, that is...
The Wicked Ways duet concludes with Reveal, which is set to release on September 24th, and I'm definitely hoping for an HEA for Vaughn and Ryker... after some much needed butt kicking of course...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
4.5 Stars!
First let start by say, beware of the cliffhanger.
Then let say this book was SO GOOD! I am fan of Bromberg so I went into the book blind. Initially, I was like man this book is different then what I usually read but I could not put it down. Vaughn is the owner of an escort service. The book reveals the details of this service and the why. She comes in contact with Ryker through the service. Ryker is a rich high power divorce lawyer who is used to getting what he wants and calling the shots. Vaughn is not impressed by the rich and powerful and considers them a means to an end and nothing more. Ryker finds that Vaughn is not impressed by him and does not find it necessary to bend to his will so he makes it his mission to make her his. I thought that Bromberg did a great job with this enemies to lovers. I thought that Lucy was such a great added bonus to the book. I love the fight that Vaughn has in her. The push and pull in the story between Ryker and Vaughn was perfect. I am so excited to devour the next book to see where this story gos!
Well there I was happily reading away and thoroughly enjoying this book when bam, it ended! I knew it was a part 1 but man what a cliffhanger! I can’t wait for Reveal to get the rest of Vaughn and Ryker’s compelling story! They met in a very unconventional way and I was a bit skeptical at first but I ended up falling in love with both of these characters so much!! Ms.Bromberg’s wonderful way with words made that happen despite what I was thinking and feeling in the beginning. It becomes so easy to root for them to be an official couple as you feel their chemistry and the way they interact with each other. Ryker is totally swoonworthy and Vaughn is such a good person with such a good heart. They do have some communication issues at first but that finally starts to work itself out. Or so I thought anyway, now I am not so sure. I loved this book but now I am holding my breath for Reveal!!
I loved this book, read it in one sitting. Then I got to the end. If you aren’t a fan of cliffhangers (which I’m not) then I suggest you wait until the next book is out.
Vaughn is the madam for the high priced escort agency Wicked Ways. She is all business, and works hard to protect the girls who work for her, even if it means challenging a senator who mistreated one of them. She keeps her anonymity by being in disguise when she meeting clients, so that they don't recognize her when she is at her other job as a server at Apropos a high end club.
The incident with the senator means that the girl in question is out of action and Vaughn has to keep her appointment with Ryker Lockhart a high powered divorce attorney who could make or break Vaughn's business. When she meets Ryker there is instant chemistry between them but as things heat up back in his room Vaughn has a panic attack and escapes, leaving Ryker confused and angry.
Ryker and Vaughn meet again at Apropos and he is even more confused and she realizes that the worlds that she struggles to keep secret are now colliding. Ryker begins to pursue her and she becomes entangled in his web.
This is an intriguing and different story from the ones I have read previously from Ms Bromberg and I was absolutely riveted from the start. It is mysterious and intense as Ryker and Vaughn become more entwined in each other and her secrets are slowly revealed to him. Ms Bromberg is such an amazing writer and Resist is just as brilliant as her earlier books.
My only complaint is that just as the story was really heating up, it ended in a cliffhanger and now I have to wait for the sequel!
4-Stars
Book 1 of the Wicked Ways duet
Just when I couldn't love K Bromberg anymore for giving us Colton Donovan from the Driven series - she ups the game and delivers us, Rycker Lockhart! Hot damn - this author can write book boyfriends like none other.
Rycker is a high-power divorce attorney, who is going on the top of my list of Alpha A-holes that I can't help but love. Brooding and all.
Vaughn Sanders, our ambitious heroine is the perfect match for Rycker. I loved how she wasn't a doormat and could dish it back to Rycker.
Rycker and Vaughn's story has off the charts chemistry and it sucks you in from the very beginning. I cannot wait to read the conclusion of their story.
Vaughn is a woman juggling a lot in her life. She is stepping outside of her box in order to secure the adoption of her niece, Lucy, who is special needs. Her debt ratio is high so what is a girl to do, create an escort service of course. She is then tasked with ensuring the safety of her girls, while also having blackmail material on their clients so if things get out of hand she has something to bargain with. Enter Ryker Lockhart and his demands needing to be met but no girls available for the job. Vaughn steps out of her comfort zone to do the job required. Things don't go as expected and both are scrambling to figure out what it is about the other that wants them to get to know more about the other. Ryker is tenacious and Vaughn is definitely gun-shy but it worked. Their story did give a lot of information but it was spread out and kept it interesting. I don't want to give away any aspect of the book as I think it is better if you go into it with an open mind. The ending caused me to want to throw my e-reader and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
Oh. My. Lanta!! I need book two like, yesterday.
First off, Vaughn. This girl is a spitfire and will do whatever it takes to take care of her family. She has crossed boundaries she never dreamed she'd ever do. Nothing and no one will come in the way of her plans.
Ryker is a high profile divorce lawyer who always side with the husband no matter what. After getting played and royally burned he keeps walls around him and has started using escorts.
When he meets Madam Vee sadly for her he can see right through her but maybe they can both let their walls down and open up to the idea of more.
Now we have to wait for the next installment to find out the rest of their story and I forsee it's gonna be epic!

I slowly fell in love with Resist. It wasn't there at first, I had a hard time rooting for Vaughn, with all the ways she pushes people away. Ryker (love that name) was totally a man who would only change for the right woman. In the beginning, I could not see at all why he wouldn't give up on her. Sorry, she was throwing all the NO signs everywhere.
BUT, the story grew, new elements revealed, softer sides exposed. I could see it. They got my attention. Not to mention, there are other players and a slight feeling of apprehension and almost suspense. Then there's the ending that makes you want to scream at all of them, and totally hooks you. There's no way by the end of this book you can RESIST reading book two to see how it all goes down.
This book was a pure joy to read and I knew going in, I was in for exception writing, character growth, emotional elements, and all the feels. Ms. Bromberg knows how to tell and story and knows how to do it in an engaging and professional manner. Having read the Driven Trilogy, I was excited to see what Vaughan and Ryker had to bring to the table and what a lovely surprise for Colton to make a brief appearance too.
This is the first book in what I assume is going to be a trilogy so you don't get a full story and there is a bit of cliffhanger at the end. Nothing too major though but enough to make me sigh knowing that it will be quite some time before I get to see what happens next.
Vaughan is an excellent character and remains true to herself the whole way through this book. Ryker is your typical wealthy male but I grew quite fond of him as the story played out. I particularly enjoyed his interactions with Lucy (Vaughan's niece). There are some excellent plot points layered throughout this story and I anticipate quite a lot of disruptions coming in book 2 as both characters struggle to get their relationship on track.
If you're looking for a romance that's done right, sex scenes that don't make you want to skip the pages, emotional angst, and strong characters, then this book should be perfect.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series when it releases and I'm sure this series is going to be as big a hit as Driven was.
Be prepared to get your mind blown away by K.Bromberg in Resist. This strikingly brilliant story is definitely my favourite after her iconic Driven Series. She has pushed the boundaries and went beyond the limits in this story. The story has angst and intensity in spades. The emotions are overwhelming and heartbreaking. She has woven a web of mystery, thriller, heartache, reality and seductive sensuality. This story with an edge of darkness is totally different from any K.Bromberg story you have ever read.
Vaughn is now my all time favourite heroine by K.Bromberg and that speaks volumes about this story. Because the strong yet broken and vulnerable heroine IS her speciality. But Vaughn is on another level on whole. She wears many masks. She is a survivor, a fighter, an angel and a seductress. She wears her scars proudly. Her resilience and struggle made me respect her a lot. She has such a traumatic past and disturbing present but she is working incessantly to make the future better for herself and her loved ones. Ryker Lockhart can be her prince charming or dark knight. This gorgeous, arrogant, controlling and dominating man wants her in many ways. He is intrigued by her. He can be stubborn and infuriating and intoxicating. I was positively melting with his uber bossy sex appeal.
The best part of the story is the nuclear hot, soul deep and all consuming chemistry between Ryker and Vaughn. The slow burn was oh so delicious. They are in a battlefield of emotions where they both constantly try to control the attraction and true feelings. The push and pull was so enticing and captivating. They both have own share of vulnerabilities and insecurities. And they have also found soulmates in each other. The story has sharp twists and turns those kept me glued to the pages. And the cliffhanger was simply cruel because I need answers right now! There are so many puzzle pieces. The abusive past. The drug addict. The scorned politician. Ryker and Vaughn is playing Russian roulette with their lives with impossibly high and dangerous stakes.
K. Bromberg has outdone herself in Resist. The spectacular and brilliant storytelling was absolutely out of the world. My heart and soul was completely captivated by the extraordinary writing, alluring story line, enthralling emotions and fascinating characters. A must read story of 2019.

3.5 looking for the sunset stars
The beginning of Resist had me in two minds about whether or not I was going to fully connect with this book. A good proportion of the story is a power play between our leading characters and their stubbornness and back and forth drove me mad at times. It’s a doozy of an enemies to lovers story with Ryker so arrogant and much more of an alphahole than I was anticipating. Vaughn was at times a worthy advisory who didn’t let him get his own way without a fight, until she was left with little or no choice but to acquiesce. A good dose of blackmail will do that!
I really disliked Ryker at the beginning and, for character development purposes, I’m not sure we’re supposed to love him, at least not yet. He’s a commitment phobe and has a very jaded view of marriage and relationships. I’m not exactly sure why. Maybe because of his parents’ unsuccessful marriage, or the one woman he fell for who wasn’t who he thought she was, but whatever it was he now, (in my opinion), seemed to be getting even in some way by only choosing to represent the husbands in their divorce proceedings and not their wives. However, I did began to warm to Ryker as the story progressed and I guess this was due to his change of attitude and his feelings for Vaughn making him want to become a better man. Whilst I appreciated this, it did seem rather an abrupt turn around, but, nevertheless, before I knew it he was working his way into my affections too.
Vaughn was the saving grace for me. Even though some of her actions had me wanting to give her a shake, I found her an interesting and empathetic character. She’s compassionate, strong and driven, working very hard to achieve her goals and create a different life for herself. That life, her past and present, and especially her interactions with her young niece, are described in such detail that I found myself tearing up on occasions. I loved the chemistry between her and Ryker and their surprise as their growing feelings. Falling for each other had not been in the cards for these two.
All in all Resist was a tense read which left me a little confused as to my feelings about it. The writing style is good but I found the story dragged somewhat in parts. The last 25% is where it speeded up for me and grabbed my attention. One heck of a cliffhanger ending has got me very excited and ensured that I am now invested in the outcome of Ryker and Vaughn’s story.
Vaughn is a fighter, not in a sporting sense, she is a very determined and focused woman. She runs her exclusive escort business and waitresses part time at a high end establishment. She has a long term goal that she is working towards and that is her only focus at the moment. When she has to fill in for one of her girls with a new and potentially lucrative client, Ryker Lockhart she discovers that she may have very well met her match.
Firstly, she has never had to stand in for one of her girls before and she finds herself tripping up on a few white lies with the charismatic and intuitive Ryker. He is a divorce attorney with a reputation of ruthlessly negotiating for his clients – all men. However, more concerning for Vaughn is the ridiculous chemistry between them. She does not want to feel anything for Ryker but her body did not get the memo.
Ryker is completely intrigued by this beautiful woman who, in one night, has managed to get under his skin and more frustratingly at the forefront of his mind. Her dismissive and nonchalant attitude towards him is not a response he is used to getting and he needs to know more about her. The last thing Vaughn wants is Ryker’s unsolicited attention but he is the master of negotiation and used to winning. Vaughn has a lot more to lose than Ryker does and she has no choice but to go along with his proposal.
Ryker can’t quite figure out Vaughn, she is a puzzle he means to solve. The more he finds out about her the more he is drawn to her. She is a woman that tempts him in every way and he has every intention of making her his. Vaughn is struggling with this overwhelming interruption to her life but resisting Ryker Lockhart is futile. She wants him too but giving into him could put everything she is working towards at risk..
There is SO much more to this story that I haven’t even touched on so that you can discover it yourself. Before you read this book I need to warn you that once you start, you will probably not be able to stop so make sure you have a nice block of time and a comfy place to indulge in this addictive read.
Going into this book I was really excited to only get to the end of the book to find out that it ends in a major cliffhanger. I guess my first clue should have been that it is book one in the series that it wasn’t going to end but sometimes series are not about the same characters so not having the info going in that this was ending in a cliffhanger was very upsetting to this reader.
I can say that right from the start I was pulled in and it was difficult to put down. I found myself trying to read any chance I could even if it was only for ten minutes at a time because I needed to know what was going to happen with Vaughn. There is a lot of mystery, suspense, twists and turns in the story that you are constantly guessing. I did read an advance copy via Netgalley and can not wait to read book two, Reveal.
Resist by K Bromberg was utterly unexpected! I went into this one blind-I hadn't read the synopsis or anything when I snagged the book because its K Bromberg! Vaughn is a strange type of heroine. In one instance she is an alpha female who kneels to no one and rules an empire with an iron fist. Then, in the next, she is a grieving sister who is trying to cut the read tape keeping her from her niece. As a heroine, I found her wholly fascinating.
Ryker is a study in contradictions as well. He is an ice cold attorney who never loses and yet he is a man who, despite his stunning good looks, hires an escort. He is the prime example of an alpha-hole. Rude, demeaning, and demanding, he isn't afraid to cross lines to get what he wants. I can't say I LOVED either of these characters the way I fall in love with some book leads. However, my feelings for them where what made this book so unique and unforgettable in my mind. I struggled with their choices and decisions, even knowing the why behind them. Lucy is the star though and I loved the glimpses of Ryker and her.
Resist by K Bromberg hooked me instantly when I wasn't expecting it and I simply couldn't stop reading. I had to know what would become of Vaughn and Ryker and all those around them. There is no shortage of villainous characters and slimy behavior that will make you feel uncomfortable-but in the best possible way. Also, a delightful cameo by Colton Donovan had me squealing with delight. If dynamic characters are what you seek in your steamy romance reads, Resist will entrance you because Ryker and Vaughn have so many layers and such depth to them.
I am officially sucked on between these dynamic duo. The relationship were complicated and both characters were stubborn dominants!
Vaughn and Ryker were so good for each other. Kristi had fascinated me since the Driven series and yes, she did it again. Resist was a compelling story through many layer of backgrounds. It had kept me satisfy with the heavy subjects from the past.
The whole experience were sizzling and I cant stop smiling. A Wickedly good story..I love it and cant wait for the next chapter
Holy moly that was good! Vaughn is AH=MAZING. She is getting sh!t done the fastest way she can, while keeping her worlds separate. Then, BOOM, Ryker walks into her life and nothing stays where it's supposed to. Ryker was a real dick, but Vaughn and Lucy wiggled their way into his system and he loosened up. That cliffy tho????? I can't believe I have to wait!!!
K. Bromberg What is going on with the ending of this book? I’m so happy to know that there is another book or else my hair would be gone from pulling it all out. Just wow, I know there is a good reason for the ending but I need to know the reason behind the decisions made. I love how strong Vaughn is and how headstrong Ryker is. Mind Blown 🤯 I cant wait to read the next book.
